Based on absolutely no reasoning of any kind what-so-ever, I think S/S barbs will be the only ones effective in PVP play.
Its going to be the best, because I'm going to be a Shield Barb.

Lol...... you comment on how diablo 3 was 2.5x the size of SC2's.... well look at WoW:Cataclysm... its 3x bigger than d3 and 9x bigger than sc2....

    Shows Blizzard's fucked up priorities....
I think they are doing the right thing.
Because WoW is funding all of this. And currently wow has a diminishing fan base, it was 11.5mil now the website only advertises 10. This is still a huge number none the less.

Besides wow is currently on the market right now and one of the reasons it is so profitable is because of the constant updates the devs provide. Plus the size is relevant to the entire game, wow is HUUUUGE.

But on the Diablo side of things, there is a nice screenshot of the male wizard, and a few good pics of the barb(MY FAV CLASS!)

Also I found a new video of Jay Wilson in China talking about Diablo 3, it showcases some new stuff never seen before like the dungeon map generator and show cases more of the desert environment.

Maybe after D3 and expansion, we can have a prequel, where we see a young Decard Cain?

posted a message on Wanting to get to 99
In D2 it took TOOOOOO long to get to 99, mind numbing repetitive grinding that was NOT fun.

Jay Wilson said that the best way to lvl up should also be the most fun way.
Also in D2, being 90 and 99 did not give you big enough gains for one to want to do the grind in the first place. Since gear at that level was so good, the 9 extra skill points and 45 extra stat points didn't really do much.

I think there should be quests at the high levels will be substantially harder and yield far more exp to make leveling to 99 more feasible and rewarding. Along with the "regular" quests that may not be as hard or rewarding.

I think getting to 99 should require significant amount of time dedicated to play, but I think skill should be a BIGGER factor. I hope there will be quests that give HUUUUGE amounts of exp, but could only be completed by a group of skilled players that are coordinated and play the game masterfully.

And hopefully you get more skill points or stat points the higher in level you go to make it meaningful to gain these additional level.

I think 3 is enough. I played through D2 with a Barbarian completely solo offline multilayer with no editors. I went through ALL of the quests and most of the random dungeons. When I beat Baal, I was lvl 32. I don't think that was a coincidence.

    Since 3x33=99
    And there are 3 difficulties...

For instance you are fighting a boss and when the loot drops there will be class specific items that are for you and only for you! You are the only one to recieve that item.

I think you misunderstood what he says. Yes, he did say that you will get loot and all the loot is specifically for you. Meaning the loot on screen that you see is not identical to what other people see, so you can feel free to grab any loot you see because each person has their own "loot". And what ever loot you DO grab does not affect what is on other players screen what so ever. But that loot is not specific to the class you are playing. You can play a Barb and get a wizard wand or something that does not benefit your class at all.

If you want an active defense skill, you should play the Monk :D
I think it's only fair that there's also a melee characters that has passive defenses instead for the people that would rather play that way.

.. Maybe the lack of shield skills in the Battlemaster means the unanounced fifth class will be more of a shield specialist than the Barbarian?
But there is a greater lack of a ranged DPS class....

Ranged DPS tanking class??? Don't think so.

Blizzard are only making dps classes, I think that applies to the skilltrees too. Making character unequal in solo gameplay would completely fuck up balance.
"The damage lack should be noticeably compensated for toughness. "

This is the part I am concerned about. There are no skills for the shield other than retaliate which is an offensive passive ability that procs when a block is made.

There needs to be passives like:
    Increase block chance by x%
When equipping a shield increases defense by x%

Either that or make shields in general REALLY REALLY good

No you have the same freedom.
It is just a "bonus", no one is putting a gun to your head and forcing you to use all rares of a specific type.

Rares will still be good even if you don't have synergies...

Basically I think a battle master spec barbarian should take the least damage, have the most health, have the most defense and in that sense be the class that is hardest to kill.

Sure it will probably do less damage than the other specs, but that is expected. The damage lack should be noticeably compensated for toughness.

It is like all of those free servers for WoW that gives you instant level 80... that is like doing 50% of the whole RPG element for the player, what is the fun in that? Diablo 2 had replayability, but the quests was not a part of that replayability, so they skipped it completely. D3 will probably be different with randomized quests and more interesting fights. You can level up in more ways than in D2 so it will stay interesting (and hopefully rewarding).
Yea that is one of the reasons I loved wow so much and eventually quit after the first expansion came out.

There is SOOOOO much content the the original wow, and after the expansion came out everyone went to the new zones and the old one was left barren and unpopulated. I was a die hard wow fan started playing since open beta. I played through all of the quests and all of the original dungeons, MC, and Ony being the most memorable, and I hated how all that was thrown away for a tiny new peice of real estate that the expansion gave.

Like Jay wilson said players will take the path of least resistance, they will go to that little peice of real estate if that is the place that gives them the best loot and best exp, even if it is not as big or fun as the older area.
