Where do we find our infraction points, anyways?
Either I've failed at finding them, or I have none thus far :/.
You don't have any. If you did you would see it as a tab on your profile.

So, basically you have to get 7+ infractions in less than a 3mo. time period to recieve a perm-ban. Unless you do one of the things to get a perm-band.
    You got it.

I have something to ask about this system. You say that points will expire after 3 months.

Its all great, but what for the points we got before? I got 3 that will follow me for 1 -year-. I won't cry a river for it, but I do find it a bit unfair now, especially since 4 more -will- get me banned (and only 2 will get me banned for more than I can take :P).

Just don't get any more :P

I'll set those to expire in after 3 months.

On topic though, I always like to see well managed forums that discourage some of the annoying parts of most forums(overly rude posts, racial slurs, etc). These rules look nice to me.

Great :) We want these forums to be a place everyone can enjoy.

Surely racial slurs warrant more of a punishment...

They receive an automatic ban for using a racial slur. I was thinking that would be enough to nip it in the bud. Anyone else want to weight in on this one?

    lol

i like em all cept the sig one but its fine if you talk to them and they downright refuse to do anything about it =3

Your sig is fine. What don't you like about the sig. Pretty much it's just saying - don't break our template with your sig, don't have it overly tall, and it shouldn't cause epileptic fits.

Not sure what you mean by " but its fine if you talk to them and they downright refuse to do anything about it"

I got this last questions in a PM, but I thought that others might have the same question.

Lets say that if you get 7 infractions but you got 1 infraction each year after 7 years would you be permanently banned? Do fractions still expire and this would just all be warnings?
Nope. You would actually NEVER receive any sort of ban if you got 1 infraction each year. 3 months after EACH infraction point they expire and no longer count to your total.

    Here is a time line:

    10/17/2009 - (A) 1 Infraction Point - Total Infractions: 1
    1/17/2009 - (A) Expires - Total Infractions: 0
    5/10/2009 - (B) 1 Infraction Point - Total Infractions: 1
    5/12/2009 - (C) 2 Infraction Points - Total Infractions 3 - Temporary Ban
    8/10/2009 - (B) Expires - Total Infractions: 2
    8/12/2009 - (C) Expires - Total Infractions: 0

Thanks for all the feedback everyone!

I like how this has turned into a thread of "testing the limits". Is this bad?

I guess not, but might be considered spam. :)

lol - I can't really see where that would be ON topic in any forums other than an Off Topic or Spam type of forum. It would be very situational.

This is the place to get your questions answered and give feedback to the new system. We want to be clear with you guys on this.

So swearing is not condemned if it is used in a way that doesn't insult someone? Nice. I can still call people's ideas "fucking ridiculous"... or at least I think I can...

I don't care if you curse. But calling someone's ideas "fucking ridiculous" is insulting to that user. So be careful about that.

I never read rules, I'm using common sense instead.

Common sense is a great thing to have and should get you a long way. Reading the rules is also not a bad idea ;)

Unless I'm horribly mistaken, swearing is now allowed!
If it's used in a non-insulting way, that is. Guess it could easily be classified as insulting if used in that way.

I actually have no problem with swearing as long as you're not insulting another user.

Anyways, all explanations aside, I rather like the new outlines, and kinda hate it all at the same time.

Love the infraction point system, good idea, but I dislike how you've laid it out. Basically it's aesthetics for me, the old rule page was very clean cut, and organized. This one seems more like a mash up of all the rules, it still has headings and whatnot, but still, for some reason it just seems much less organized than the old page.

We're open to suggestions to how you would rather see them laid out. To me it's very clear and much more concise than the old rules.

Does that mean that my flame infraction from a while ago goes away?
    Or what's up with that?
That expired long ago and you are at 0 active points. You can check your infractions on your profile page.

Ummmm oh dear this scares me. I got on saw this im like "Holy shit here we go heres where I fall." Lol so does this mean if we get 7 infractions we get permanently banned? Im a little confused. If it is Im screwed.

Yeah. If you get 7 infraction points you will receive a perma-ban automatically.

The difference now is that the points have been standardized and you won't be getting 5 points for thread necromancy or something like that. So you will have plenty of warnings and temporary bans - you'll see it coming ;)

We'll work with you. We don't WANT to ban people.

I really don't like the "Perma Ban - General". I know it's not the intent, but it feels like it will inevitably be used by someone to get rid of someone else.

Can't you change it to "Massive Trolling" or something instead? It'd be basicly the same thing, but it'd put my mind at ease somewhat. :P

I'll take those off the list as they are really just for mod/admin use anyway and don't concern the general users.

Also to try and put your mind at rest, if you get banned and you feel it was irresponsible on the mods part - send us an email and we will look into it.

    Mmmh.

    This scares me.

I can't help it. When I have to say something, I say it. Even if it gets me banned. I guess I won't last long if I'm not careful.

heh - yeah, you might be careful then :P Also, the system is designed to give plenty of warning/temporary bans before it's final (it's not going to take you by surprise, unless your really, really, REALLY screw up)

    Sweet deal. I love rules.
This is one of the only forums that I see that actually enforces them, too. On most forums, they run wild with racial slurs, persistent name calling, trolling, etc.. It's terrible.
    So... Yay!
Great :) On this note - I want to remind everyone to use the Report feature! It really helps us out. If you see something you think MAY be inappropriate - just report it and we'll take it from there.

What exacly is "trolling" ? I know its a general-used-forum-slang thing, but what is your deffenition?

Generally I define trolling as: Posting for the sole purpose of inciting arguments or increasing post count.

The rules break this into 3 different categories:

    Trolling
    - 1 pt - Spamming.
    - 1 pt - Whine threads - Don't create threads just to QQ.
    - 1 pt - Posting to incite arguments or increase post count.

What is "Perma Ban - General"?

That's there so that if someone came in and caused so much trouble that a mod or admin thought they needed to go, but they didn't fall into one of the prescribed perma ban categories.

An example:someone registers and spams 150 posts that are all embeded porn. Instead of giving him 3 pornography infractions we can just hand out the singular Perma Ban - General.

The 12 point perma ban categories are not something any typical, well meaning site user needs to worry about.

Last night we updated the forum rules which you can view at the top of any forum. The changes were made so that you guys would know what to expect from us and we would have a more structured and transparent moderation system.

One of the main changes we have implemented a new escalation policy for infractions. Meaning, if you accumulate infractions automatic punishments will kick in.

    • 1 Points: Warning
    • 2 Points: One Day Ban
    • 3 Points: Two Day Ban
    • 4 Points: Five Day Ban
    • 5 Points: 1 Month Ban
    • 6 Points: 2 Month Ban
    • 7+ Points: Permanent Ban

The other thing that changed are the infractions. This is by no means an exhaustive list of what is disallowed, but it hopefully gives everyone a fairly good idea of what explicitly isn't allowed and what punishment you will receive if you break one of the rules. 3 months after getting an infraction the points are expire and are forgotten.

    • Advertising - 1pt
    • Blizzard - Account Selling/Trading - 1pt
    • Insulting Posts - Class/Level Bashing - 1pt
    • Insulting Posts - General - 1pt
    • Insulting Posts - Personal Attack - 1pt
    • Signature Violation - Size/Distracting - 1pt
    • Trolling - General - 1pt
    • Trolling - QQ - 1pt
    • Trolling - Spamming - 1pt
    • Discrimination - General - 2pt
    • Discrimination - Racial Slurs - 2pt
    • Illegal Activities - Piracy/Hacks/Cracks/etc - 2pt
    • Pornography - Disgusting Link - 3pt
    • Pornography - Embeded - 3pt
    • Perma Ban - Commercial Advertising - 12pt
    • Perma Ban - Harmful Links - 12pt
Please read over the new rules and give us your feedback and we'll work on fine tuning the system.

    Have a good one.
