Blizzard has the worst fanbase in existence these days, it's pretty sad. I don't mind the complaints, I just wish people would actually think logically and present valid arguments instead of just saying things like "X is ****ing terrible **** Blizzard!!! WORST GAME EVER". If you don't like the game, don't play it. If I buy a game that I don't like I don't run to their forums and bitch about how horrible the game is, I have better things to do with my life.
For the record, I'm really enjoying D3 even though I have some things I would like to see addressed.
It's simple. When you cast an aoe spell, you don't cast it instantly. You activate a targeting icon, just like aoe spells in Warcraft 3. Then you move it around with the right thumbstick. That's how it works in most games. In LoL this is the default control. If you instantly cast where the cursor is, it's called smartcast (the default for diablo). Smartcast is more fast paced, but it's not indespensable.
Yeah, except on the PC you have the mouse that you can move quickly (or pre-locate to where you want it to be) to the spot you want. On the console, where's the targetting circle gonna start? Somewhere at your character I assume. It'll be a pain to try to move it where you want when a horde of demons is charging your location.
That's just something you have to deal with when you play on a console. Targeting will always be slower, FPS games are an example. Do you think Blizzard is going to scrap the console idea because targeting might be a half second slower? Come on.
I'd conclude that this isn't coming to console until the 2nd expansion launch. If that. That video pretty much told me Diablo 3 isn't coming to consoles.
Porting games isn't as difficult as you think. Just look at the Call of Duty games, they release on 3 platforms simultaneously in under 2 years of development time. But, we are talking about Blizzard here...
That article was obviously written by a PC gaming fanboy. I hate to say it, since I love PC gaming, but it is slowly dying. The only reason that PC gaming used to be so large was because consoles did not have the ability to connect to the internet, but times have changed.
Also, most people do not want to invest in a gaming computer and I don't blame them. Game requirements change every year, it's not fair to expect someone to upgrade their computer every time a new game comes out. Why not tailor games around specific requirements that only change every 5 years or so? Console gaming is the future and Blizzard knows it.
Salsa20 is a stream cipher submitted to eSTREAM by Daniel Bernstein. It is built on a pseudorandom function based on 32-bit addition, bitwise addition (XOR) and rotation operations, which maps a 256-bitkey, a 64-bit nonce (number used once), and a 64-bit stream position to a 512-bit output (a version with a 128-bit key also exists).
There is a lot of misinformation floating around in this thread. First of all, Salsa20 uses either an 8 byte or 16 byte key. Secondly, most of you are assuming the only way to crack this is through brute force. There are other, way more intelligent ways of going about it.
Also, that description of quantum computing made me seriously lol
It's probably just the hardcore name for hell. Why would they hide such an important detail from the fansite event?
Nightmare is still called Nightmare in HC, as you can see in my original post. It would be odd for them to change the name of Hell but not any other difficulty. Not to mention the fact that it could possibly confuse some players. Not saying you're wrong, because no one knows, but I do believe it's more likely to be a fourth difficulty.
Also an interesting quote from this interview by inDiablo.de:
Q: Will there be high level endgame content for your character once you finished the story like the Hellfire Quest in Diablo 2?
A: We don't have specific plans that we are talking about yet, but we are definitely focusing on additional content for the endgame. We want to make sure that people who have reached the maximum level still have a lot of fun stuff to do. So we will have a lot of stuff to talk about but nothing specific yet.
Blizz is not responding on the BNet forums, which makes me think that it really is a 4th difficulty and they didn't mean for this to slip out just yet.
I found this interview by looking at the source code of the page for the beta announcement of D3. It's a short interview but it has some pretty cool stuff, I'm not sure if it was part of the press kit or not. I'm also not sure why it's not available from the side menu on the page, maybe it was meant to be released later?
Interesting tidbit about D3's difficulty modes. Kevin mentions "hell and inferno" as being the games harder difficulty modes, I'm curious if it goes Normal, Nightmare, Hell, Inferno?
This picture shows that Nightmare difficulty is indeed in the game. Four difficulty modes!?!

256 bits = 32 bytes

My mistake, 16 byte or 32 byte key
