Choosing where your lightning go is a no to me, since thats what lightning is about: randomness.

And if we go the logical way, if the color depends on how hot the lightning is, then we could assume that when you are more powerful, its hotter, and so the color would change accordingly.

So the lightning would always be white, but the outline would be purple first, then as you gain level it gets more blue, then green, then yellow.. orange.. and end up red.

...they should just include customizable lightning color ^.^
Do you mean choosing as in the path it takes through the air to get to the target, or actually choosing to make the lightning bolt strike your enemy? Diablo isn't completely realistic, but whats not to say to counter the latter that the wizard's lightning spell is actually a form of electric repulsion/attraction that disrupts the electron flow on/around the enemy? This would make for a lightning bolt that isn't random.

You seem to have to it backwards. The blues/purples would be the hottest and oranges/reds the coldest.
I like this idea though :) except not to go overboard with it, the colour would be a soft tinge while the bolt will basically be white.

The pikachu lightning attacks never impressed me as much as what this wizard can accomplish, so I decree blue/white lightning is better :P

But the lightning in d3 seems ok so far.
Dude. The d3 lightning is better than RL lightning hands down!

Its been a while since I used D2 charged bolt except I do have those fuzzy cheezy memories :P From the bats in D1 to the cheeses in D2 to the... actually I don't think I've seen D3 charged bolt yet; I hope they implement it.

I agree. I always favoured the idea to distinguish each spell type very clearly from the rest. The red of fire, green of poison, (now) purple of magic, blue of ice, and yeah.. blue of lightning doesn't really fit the randomized pattern here. Yellow? Maybe. I can't picture it right now, but it might've worked. It's not very realistic though.

This shot of the wizard made me drool... :cute:
Just look at that lightning arc curve! Ohhh baby!

I love the extra emphasis blizzard put into lightning spells, because honestly, they were pretty much neglected in D2. Can't wait to start playing the sorc... uh... wiz!! :D

    Thanks for the advice everyone.

I'm having a hard time trying to play the sorceror. Basically because I frequently need to switch between holy bolt, heal and fire bolt and pressing s to bring up the spell list and selecting the new spell I need takes too much time in the heat of battle.

Sure, I would usually just practice to do quick successive clicks to increase the speed at which I toggle each spell, but I can't do this when I keep grabbing new scrolls and spells etc. along the way, moving the position of the spells I need

Is there a way of selecting a hotkey for each spell? Else, I think I'll need to create a macro for it. Yeah, I'm a spoilt new-age gamer that don't like difficult :D

    Here we go:

    Criticisms of the expansion include:
    ...
    • Many of the later bugfixes introduced in patches for Diablo do not carry over into Hellfire, and Sierra only released one patch, fixing a small number of bugs exclusive to Hellfire itself.

Please, stay tuned as Puttah presents himself in more ridiculous scenarios, asking the most absurd of questions for your quizzing pleasure :P

What dooes scroll of search actually do? I can't seem to figure out what changes happen after I use one...?

Thats fine. I'll monitor them closely when I use each to see if I can spot a difference.
The shift+click and hold doesn't seem to be working for me. I have to revert to the basic click-spam routine ^_^

What is the newest patch for hellfire anyway?

Ahh thanks for the help. Yeah, on the first level dungeon in the cathedral (very first monsters you meet) I found it much too easy, then the second level was much too hard... hehe the pack of monsters tripled in size.
What is the difference between a scroll of healing and potion of healing anyway?

Basically, I've just started playing D1 and have a few simple questions about gameplay and what-not.
Ok firstly, is it possible to keep swinging my sword as a warrior without constantly clicking? Maybe shift+click and hold or something along those lines?
Secondly, should I get straight into the expansion and start playing that? If the expansion is anything like D2 LOD which I would consider just an add-on to the original, then I would definitely go with the expansion.
Thirdly, what is actually happening when I try use the warrior's repair skill on an item. It seems to lose its total durability. A consequence of repairing it myself? Maybe my skill in that spell isn't high enough?
Fourth and finally, when/how do I get new spells?

    Thanks in advance :)

posted a message on How to get the game?
I was really hoping for an online site that could get me to pay in such a way. I know I'll be running across the country if I do find a store that sells D1 (literally running, I can't drive yet ^_^). Anyway, I'll use your suggestion and search through a phonebook and hopefully find something convenient in there.

    Wish me luck

Illegal/cracked software is generally looked down upon on these forums... so sorry man, won't be able to direct you towards a free source.

However, if you're willing to pay a bit, check at used games stores near you. I recently got a copy of an old game I had been looking for, which I thought I would never find (Baldurs Gate 2).

Knowing that D1 wouldn't cost more than $50, I really don't care about the money. Whether it is free or paid for doesn't bother me. What does bother me however is that I don't know of any used game stores near my location or anywhere for that fact, so the way to go about it would be to buy it online, but again, I don't have a credit card so that will pose difficulties for me.

I've played D2, and am enthusiastic for D3, but it just so happens that over the years my D2 discs couldn't handle the pummeling I had given them, so now I can't go back to D2 to bring back the old memories that I want to re-live.
I decided that instead of re-buying D2 which I had played to death, I'd like to instead play D1 to catch up on the earlier storyline (it would be nice to know the true significance of tristram) and also see what all the fuss was about with its scary factor and what this "the butcher" really is.

Basically, I want to get D1 (expansion not necessary, but would be nice too). However, the game is too old to still be on the shelves in stores and I don't know of any friends that have the game hanging around. Also, I don't have a credit/debit card so I can't buy it online. The only way I can think of to pay for it online would be by getting them to charge it on my phone bill.

So is there a free downloadable for D1, or a way to pay for it with my restrictions? Single Player is all I want.

    Thanks for any help :)

    More code to write =]
I don't know about programming, but it's logical for me to think that if the multiplayer aspect is already implemented, how much more code could there really be for making LAN happen? It's pretty much the same as any multiplayer game on Bnet.

And then there is no need for an ultra-high speed internet connection and also living in the same location as the Bnet servers (I love the fact that I lose crucial milliseconds of ping just because I'm an aussie tapping into an american server). With LAN the ping is virtually unnoticeable, so of course it's obvious which you would choose from when given the option of Bnet and LAN.

Just hope the support comes from Blizzard too :)

That sounds awesome! Since you have considered to come back for D3 after plenty of D2, obviously the game was satisfying. It would be a shame if they don't allow for LAN. Driving away a target audience after having that aspect available on the previous game...
I just see it as a real kick in the pants to hook you onto Diablo, and then tease you like this when you ask for more.
