You play Diablo 3 to pass the time don't you?

Nothing in Diablo 3 is really "worth your time" since you're probably playing Diablo 3 just to kill time.

Unless you're one of the people who does nothing but game.
So D3 is just a means of killing time? I can kill time by staring at the ceiling too, but that doesn't work very well. Why? Because that's boring and playing D3, believe it or not, is fun for some.

It's called entertainment, and in end-game the enjoyment out of acquiring better gear vastly supercedes pointless exploring. Thus, maphack.

    Quote from "Equinox" »
All those are fail elements. Runs should be modified or removed, rushing needs to be discouraged, maphack should be made useless and exploring fun. If I ever wanted to cheat in a game in this way it's because there was a mechanic that pissed me off, not so much because I wanted to gain advantage over the imaginary battle.net player.
I completely agree with your proposition.
It should be advantageous to kill monsters along the way, rather than just the boss. But at the same time, isn't a boss meant to logically drop better gear? A tough problem to crack...

Thankyou Dois, at least someone can spot my crude humour when they see it :D

Two years of chemistry... I should hope I know it's H2O. Also, I still stand by my statement.
Hint: Think of oceans and drowning :P

FYI, more people die from ingesting dihydrogen monoxide each day than from people that ingest paint. :P

As soon as I saw this thread/game, I instantly jumped to conclusions and was on the site searching for the download button ^_^
It kind of saddened me not to find one, but then again, waiting only makes me more anxious and determined to see the final product.

Good luck! And don't forget to keep us tuned in :)

The bunnies were just an example.
And if you think even the bunnies are bad because they're a hack, then why would blizzard be happy to allow this program to change your files for you? Because it's not bad, or, in other words, it doesn't affect anyone else in any way.

No not everything. I never seem to run into the back of the fridge.

Maybe it's blindness, but maybe it's also the possibility that you're fidgeting so much and it's cancelling out any movements :)

    My view:
    Map HACK. Hacks are bad.
    Bad is hacks.
    No hacks.
    Win.

It depends on the nature of the hack. In this case, it gives an unfair advantage to the users over other players.

What about a "Bunny Hack" where all the fallen are instead cute little bunnies solely for the delicate girl fan-base to enjoy (not that this exists). Is it still bad? No. Why? Because it doesn't affect anyone else in any way.

In fact its actually ALOT cheaper to import, including shipping and handling....

...We just have to wait till the people in South Australia vote out their Attorney General Michael Atkinson considering hes the only person blocking a 18+ rating.
Right I hear you loud and clear. Shoot... err... move to S.A. and help vote out Atkinson.

Importing D3 starting to look like a good possibility for me then. Are there any drawbacks to importing though? Long waits etc.?

    1. The only way for an item sink to be as good as a gold sink is if the item is completely removed, and that is not the case when trading. You find and trade soj after soj, but does someone ever sell them to a shop to get rid of it permanently? Good gold sinks are valuable through the whole game and will continue to drain the ever increasing pile of gold that is the economy.

    2. Bad items are worth nothing in an item economy because no one buys them. You buy items when you are in high level, and high level players have no use for cathan rings. The advantage of a item economy is that you can sell the item to a shop for instant gold and use that gold in the future. You can collect many low level items to purchase a better item, something that is not possible in a item economy because items takes up space.

    3. Both systems suffers deflation. An item economy deflates because of an increased number of items on the market. A gold economy deflates for the same reason, but it stops at a certain point. An item can be worthless in a item economy, that can't happen in a gold economy because of the shop value. The price for an item will stop a bit over the shop sell price. It doesn't matter how many items there are on the market, they will never get worthless. But there will always be deflation, that is what ladder resets are for. The only solution to deflation is item sinks, but what use do near perfect characters have for a possible item sink? The item sink must be more valuable than gold in many cases to prevent the market from flooding, either that or items must be made rarer.

    4. Rune trading is a slightly improved version of the item economy because there is a built in item sink. The downside is that the lower runes are useless, and higher runes are hard to get. It still suffers from the big item economy issue.

    5. The big item economy issue: You must trade great items for great items. It doesn't matter how many decent items you find, they are worth nothing in the global market. This is not beginner friendly at all. You want to trade your life steal cathan ring for a mana regenerating manald heal? Impossible, manald heal rings are useless so no one keeps them. What do they do with the manald heal? They sell it for what? Gold! So why not allowing people to turn the item into gold, and at the same time allowing the person with the cathan to get it. Solution: The cathan ring is sold to a shop or the AH, the gold you get is used to buy the manald heal.

It all comes down to the fact that items takes up space and gold don't.

Very well put. I wish someone told me this while I was studying economics!

The only downfall to map hack is less monsters killed cuz you know where to go therefore avoid monsters. But you'll boss run alot quicker and easier. I think it is useless. Diablo's fun was trying to get to diablo or andariel throughout those leveles and going the wrong way encountering monsters killing em maybe dying and coming back and continuin and leveling up on your way was the game. It definitley made the gam for me cause they were so intricate and random the maps it was hard ot tell where to go. sometimes you got lucky other times not so much.
All I see here is a biased view. You're trying to support the idea that using a maphack brings no extra benefit to the player, and even ruins the player's gaming experience (while ethical, it's just not true).
Sure, what you point out is all fun and part of the game in the beginning during the first few times we run through the game, but this repetition just gets boring and annoying later on. By your logic, none of us would find the need or even want to rush our characters through the game, ever.

    Quote from "OathofChaos" »
Sure, but wandering around aimlessly allowed you and your buddies to gain more experience, discover more loot, and kill more monsters for a chance at better items to drop. I remember while doing a dungeon crawl in Jail 1 I found a Gull that dropped from a random Skeletal Mage. There are benefits for doing things the right way.
There was probably a much better chance of a gull dropping from the boss you were searching for, but you were even luckier that time to find one from a random critter :P
While you weren't using a maphack, over 100 boss runs you might've done, maybe you could've done 200 with the maphack? Do you think you had a good chance of finding even better than that gull from the extra 100 boss runs?

Honestly, while maphack is against the rules and gives an unfair advantage over those that don't use them, if one is brought into D3, a good portion of players will be using it no questions asked.
I can safely say that even I will.

I guess these such things are what seperate people?
If you found a bundle of cash laying there on the sidewalk with no one around, do you take it or leave it at the lost and found?

The only way to stop those without a conscious (such as myself) from taking that loot is if it was never there in the first place! i.e. If there is no maphack to use, we won't use it. Simple, right?
