posted a message on [Price Check] 6/21 WKL - 970 dps, 240 Dex + Socket
I've had this for a while and I'm just wondering what you all think it's worth.
Haven't seen more than a 920 dps, 220 dex + socket up on the AH since I found this, but it seems like an 890 dps w/ 50% crit +socket tends to go for around 40 mil, which provides roughly the same DPS as mine. Agree? Disagree? Thoughts?

posted a message on More Hopes Dashed, 1.13 Delay Going Strong
Had another thought on this. Someone at Blizz should really start thinking about how they prioritize their fan-bases.

If they botch a WC III patch or don't release one that's promised...
    - All the old Mac users will cry a little on the inside.
    - Everyone else will uninstall and go back to playing WoW.

If they botch a SC1 patch or don't release one that's promised...
    - People will grumble and go back to waiting for SC2 while playing SC1 on bnet with friends.

If they botch a WoW patch/expansion (again)...
    - People will complain to blizz with emails, phonecalls, and in-game yelling.
    - They will also all keep paying $15/month to blizz, forever, no matter what.

If they botch a Diablo patch or don't release one that's promised...
    - We will rise up with demons summoned from the lowest pits of hell and march to California with pikes and torches!
    - Blood sacrifices must be made! Slaughter all those that stand against the burning ... fans.

Just saying... you'd think the 1 group you wouldn't want to anger is the crowd that plays the dark, bloody, gory, violent, mature rated game. :P

posted a message on More Hopes Dashed, 1.13 Delay Going Strong
What really irritates me is that they went through the arduous task of sampling the D2 player population for their #1 patch ideas, indicating they were going to do something GREAT with 1.13.

But with no increased stash, no modifications to update the game's play/performance, and no new content... what exactly are they doing with the patch? If their only intent is to fix bugs, why bother polling the D2 population?

Sigh... once again my hopes got the best of me.

Maybe at least they'll fix some of the botting >.>

Actually... now that I think about it some more... maybe there isn't and never will be a true 1.13 patch. Maybe they just wanted a huge poll so they could generate more ideas for D3 and get more input from D2 players as to what D3 could do to improve further upon D2. And then, because they said they were going to make a D2 patch, they'll come out with a 1.13 that's simply "Fixed a glitch where sometimes players could get stuck on a fence in act 1."

posted a message on What games SCARED you?
The question came to me upon reading posts here about possible Half-Life 3 screenshots, and people discussing being scared while playing HL2 long ago.

I started thinking about my introduction to Diablo and how it was the first video game to ever make me JUMP at a virtual terror. I used to play Diablo 1 when I was a kid, about 12 years old, late into the night on weekends. Because everyone else was asleep in the house, I had the lights off and wore headphones so my slaughter-sprees wouldn't disturb the rest of the family.

I recall the very first time I encountered Diablo himself. I knew I was approaching the end of the game but wasn't sure how much further away big D was. So there I sat. All alone. In the dark. With headphones turned up a little too loud. Concentrating hard on the screen waiting to get a glimpse of him, when suddenly...

    MUAHAHAHAHAHA!

Nearly knocked me outa my chair.

Anyone else recall any scary moments from video games?

posted a message on Was Baal's Soulstone destroyed?
While it's fun to make guesses, all of our predictions are based off current game history. Keep in mind the game and the lore surrounding the soulstones was created more than 13 years ago, with (probably) little intent to continue their involvement in the storyline. So...things may not make sense as is, and the history will have to be 'tweaked' a bit to fit the current storyline.

Blizzard has probably already started doing this, with editing the Arreat Summit page about the soulstones. As such, any info we have from it in the past is probably going to change so that the new story makes sense.

They had to do similar things with Warcraft's lore when WoW came out to make the story work. From small things like editing the Warcraft III game manual to change a demon group's race from Eredar to Nathrezim, to larger all-encompassing details from previous games. Such as... in Warcraft I, Sargaeras wasn't the main antagonist. His involvement in the lore escalated over time, and the lore had to be re-written sometime during the release of WC3 so that it would all make sense.

In any case... it's not unlike Blizz to go back and edit its own history to make the story evolve the way they want it to. I'm guessing we'll see a revamp of some of the history surrounding the soulstones before/during D3's release.

posted a message on Diablo Books: Where should I start?
I'm about to start reading books in the Diablo universe, and was wondering where I should start; what series I should start with?

I'm more looking for a book that's a good starting point chronologically, rather than just a "good read."

I know of Knaak's 6 books, but I'm wondering if the others that have been written should be read before his? Would any 1 book give me solid background I'll need for others? Or are they all basically distinct novels that have no tie to the others?

    Thanks for the input :P

P.S. Hope I'm not :offtopic: ... I felt this belonged here as it's in the Diablo universe, whereas the "Books/Comics/Etc" threads all deal with books in general, and I was hoping for a more pointed answer.

what is the standard language in europe id assume it would be like chinese or english

Er... I'd wager the % of the European population that speaks Mandarin (Chinese) is something like... 0.005% :-p

    China is in Asia...

English is the most widely spoken language throughout Europe.
While almost every country in Europe has their own official language (a few countries have picked up another country's language as their official one).

    Dutch in Belgium
    English in England
    French in France
    Italian in Italy
    German in Germany
    Swedish in Sweden/Finland
    Danish in Denmark

    ...and the list goes on.

But as for the most predominately spoken language, most people in Europe speak English, (something like 50%), followed by German, French, Italian, and Spanish.

Quite a few people speak Russian, too, because of the former USSR's grip on Eastern Europe.

Anyway, there's your language lesson for the day :-p

posted a message on TW - What does it stand for?
I just assumed it wasn't Taiwan because it's in all sorts of different game types and usually everyone in there speaks English just fine. But yeah... I could see how it could be a tag to let others know they can speak their language if they come in and want to trade/talk/whatever. That could make sense.

As for Team Work - I'm guessing that's just people assuming they know what it means. "Team Work Trades" doesn't really make much sense. Nor does "Team Work PvP."

So yeah, guess it must be a Taiwan tag. Still though... why aren't there tags from others for their language? Korean, Chinese, and Japanese tags should be popping up all over then, too, shouldn't they?

posted a message on TW - What does it stand for?
So ... I've played D2 on and off again for years and years and years, but I've never known.

    What does TW stand for?
Doing a google search results in 1 forum thread on diii.net with people just guessing about it, and the only one that makes any sense would be "Town Watch" for looking for a Diablo Clone, but even that doesn't make much sense with the types of games you see it in. Maybe it stands for Tweak?
    ...

    TW Trade
    TW-Baal runs
    TW - PvP/Duels
    TW Rush

And it's on both USWest and USEast...

If you don't know for sure, don't toss out obvious guesses please, just looking for a confirmed answer from someone that knows... in attempt to thwart guessing, here's what it's not:

Unless it's a clan with a TON of members, and no other clans bother to make games with their name in the title, it's not a clan.
    It doesn't stand for Taiwan.
It doesn't stand for Tele-Walk: Why would you have a tele-walk trade game or pvp?

Anyway, I figured a ton of people on here could probably answer this for me - thanks.

posted a message on Hope for D3 release date
My fiance and I are planning on getting married in 2011, so she's really hoping it won't come until Nov/Dec of '11 so she'll have gotten at least some time with me before I become a D3 zombie :-p

    Our recent conversation about it:

The Pretty One (her): I'm never going to see you again once it comes out, will I?

The Not Pretty One (that'd be me): Sure you will... when you deliver us snacks and drinks you've baked during LAN parties. And maybe when the power goes out... but I'll expect snacks then, too.

    TPO: *laughs* oh great, ok.

TNPO: It's ok, I promise I'll write. You can try not to cry while you read about my horrible battles and the things I've seen... while you're baking snacks.

Alrighty... I'm upgrading my palace so I can claim a nice little spot on our new islands, and producing max amounts of marble/wood to get me a nice chunk to start with.

My current two settlements are just fine, so I will probably keep them up as research and gathering hubs for the time being, and let them go once I'm settled in with a new capitol.

Probably going to start on a marble isle, unless anyone suggests otherwise, so I can start to build up a few new cities.

posted a message on About The Patch
@emile: got a BestBuy near you? They still sell the Diablo Bundle, contains D1, D2, D2: LoD, and some guides with it for... I wanna say like $30 or $40. Not sure if WalMart or Target has em.

As for patch 1.13... I'd *LOVE* for there to be new content and reworked gameplay with an increase in difficulty and ... 2 new classes!

But first... I don't wanna get my hopes up and be disappointed.
And second... I just feel that Blizz doesn't put much focus on D2... as they shouldn't. It's cool that they continue to support their older games, and provide updates and rebalancing, but even if it takes 1 month to add Act 6 to the game, from a developer's standpoint, it's wasted manpower. All that effort makes them $0.

From a developer standpoint... it just doesn't make money to update old games, unless it's released as a new expansion that people have to go out and buy. So... 1.13 won't have a ton of new content.

The only argument otherwise, which I hadn't thought of and *really* like, is new content which will lead into D3. That would please the players, and also (from a cost/benefit analysis standpoint) work as advertising for their upcoming release.

Anyway... there's my 2 cents. But I am really hoping for everything listed above by other posters. I still play D2 and can't wait to see what they have up their sleeves.

...... on the other hand, this is Blizz we're talking about, and they generally seem to put their fans above just making money (which in turn - makes them more money!)
So who knows, it's all speculation :-)

I got my computer quite late :( so I never got to play Diablo 1, Starcraft, Warcraft 1 and 2. Since I already have D2 I don't feel like buying D1. And I have Wc3 so Warcraft 1 and 2 is out of the picture. And I don't really like futuristic games so i'll pass on Starcraft.

Actually... once you've played D2, you cannot play D1. Ever. You'd rather cut your eyes out and eat them.

...Why? Because in D1, you cannot run.

    ...you walk...

    ... ... ... everywhere...

    ... ... ... ... ... *kills self*

    So yeah, if you've played d2, don't even try D1, you'll go crazy :-)

As for the rest, you should look around and find a copy of WC1&2, just to play for the story and the fun. Because they're older... it's kind of like playiang old Nintendo games, or arcade games. Except for MT Punch Out. It's still the best game ever made. Maybe D3 will top it... but I kinda doubt it :-p

    Hello world!

    Let's see...introductions...
I've been waiting for D3 and talking about it from time to time for about 7 years.

I started with D1 when I was about 13 or so, and enjoyed hacking it to pieces so my "level 1 fireball" could kill anything and everything around.

Got my own computer in high school and with it, of course, Diablo 2. Friends and I used to sit around in Geometry and add up our MF and compare current gear sets, complete with print-outs from the Arreat Summit. Needless to say, I think we did a good job of out-nerding math class.

Since then I've played tons of Starcraft, Warcraft 3, and got pretty hard-core into WoW for a couple years in college, raiding with one of the top US 100 guilds - Serious Casual of Mal'Ganis.

But all the while, I've been waiting for news about the Diablo universe... be it an MMO or any other form.

Needless to say I was psyched when D3 was finally announced, and I crave more info on it daily (wtf blizz, no meaningful updates since October... give me SOMETHING).

I've had a few other aliases in the past for which I've been well-known, but I felt now, at the dawn of a new Diablo game, it's time to pick a more permanant name for myself.

    And so...

    Hello, I'm Crowmaster.
    Age: 23
    Location: Kansas (ugh)
Status: (Impatiently) Awaiting for Blizz to release new D3 info...
