posted a message on BlizzCon 2010 DFans Gameplay Journals
Upon arriving the sea of Diablo demo ready computers, there are two lines for gameplay. One line is for PvE and the other is for PvP. When I first arrived around 10:45am, PvE was only available as PvP opened up as soon as PvP was announced. Generally, there was a 10 minute wait for PvE for the first hour or so but around the afternoon time, more people showed up and the wait time would turn into twenty minutes or more which I had no time for so I cut the line every time.

In the middle of the line, there was a big sign that said that you can win an exclusive signed Blizzcon poster and I’ve asked one of the staff members about the drop rate and he doesn’t know the exact chance.

Further down the line, there was another big sign that displayed the current demo information.

We, I and three other strangers, were broken off in groups of four and were escorted to our computers which did not sport any kind of name brand stickers or logos and were all black so guessing computer specifications was out of the question. Each computer had a head phone and a mic. I did not use the mic and I wasn’t concerned about multi-play because I was there strictly there to get detailed information about skills, item attributes and anything out of the norm that we did not know about already.

Upon arriving at the computer monitor, the character screen selection had four classes, minus the Demon Hunter which would be playable later, and I choose Witch Doctor immediately. I began to browse all skills and I spotted the traits portion which was something I haven’t seen before. I took two snaps of WD’s traits and a video record of it as well so the majority of the details are there.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_CJFxZSRwM

I had three skills available at the start which were Mongrols, Zombie Charger, and Blow Dart. In my equipment, two runestones were available to play with our skills. One rune changed the blow dart from one projectile to two or three, depending on the strength of the rune you started with. I also remember there was a rune that added 40% life steal to the Mongrols and half of that damage would be given back to my WD. Another rune changed Zombie Chargers from one charger to three of them which would fire on charger after another. When I leveled up, I decided to play with Firebats. In my youtube video, I socketed Firebats with a rune which applied Poision damage to my Firebats which is awesome. Another runestone I found changed my Firebats into auto-targeting and following Firebats. One Firebat would fire in a half second interval and move in circular random direction until it landed on a wall, a destructible, or an enemy. As I was playing the demo with auto-fire and following Firebats, for some reason the skill auto fired continually and costed no mana! So you can imagine that I was running around with this skill killing everything with ease. I believed this was a bug but I happily played it out.

Enemies in small groups were easy to kill while big groups that had a mini-boss were challenging at times. I remember these mini-bosses had a skill that pulled you directly to them! This added a slight fear factor when facing these mobs so I had to play strategically and with patience. There were also enemies that would knock you back about fifteen feet. I didn’t get to far into Act 1, as I did not reach King Leoric from the five times I’ve played.

This was the first hands on experience with the Diablo 3 demo and it was absolutely fun and simple. It felt like Diablo from start to finish because all the of the simplistic flow of this game. All I did was kill, pick up loot, and then killed some more. I can’t wait til Diablo 3 comes out!

posted a message on PvE Traits effects are different from PvP Traits
As I was typing up traits for DiabloWiki, I noticed that PvE trait effect for the Witch Doctor is different from PvPs’.

If you look closely at the first screen image for PvE, Toughness at rank 5 would increase Vitality at 100% while the last screen shot for PvP, Toughness is only increased at rank 5 to 50%.

We've heard that PvE and PvP traits and skills were different but we didn't know by how much. This evidence shows us exactly how much PvE and PvP traits are from one another. I should have noticed this before!

posted a message on In Need of Questions for D3 Blizzcon Open Q&A
Hi all, I will attending Blizzcon and there will be an Open Q&A this Saturday at 3pm and I would like to be your voice for this event. If you have a question you would like to ask, I'll be happy to ask the panels on your behalf.

I will be skipping work on Saturday so please post great questions!
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Quote from sef239_1122397

What's planned for end-game content, aside from running bosses? <--- if this is already answered at blizzcon, here's another question I want to ask.

What sort of specific rewards will achievements bring to the player?
    Reworded to:
“What can we expect for end-game content besides from running bosses and achievements?”
“Are there any special rewards for obtaining achievements such as a permanently 1% increase damage to demons if you slay 1,000 of them?”

    Quote from EvilBeanz

on top of that if they reveal alot on the PvP subject... Will they try to push for competive play and put it on the map like they did for sc/sc2/wow ect...
    ~Mike~
I would make an assumption that when they reveal PVP, if they had a ranking system they would mention it. If they don’t, it’s worth asking.

So I will reword you question to this:
“Will there be competitive PVP matches and ranking? Also, will there be any special rules for hardcore characters?”

    Quote from necronergal

What have you decided on the character stat points system. str dex vitality energy. will we still have a screen to see this?
I assume you’re talking about the customization of stats that they haven’t revealed. An excellent question worth mentioning.

    Reworded to:
“Can you discus how we can customize our characters’ stats in detail and if there will be a visible GUI to see our current stat distribution?”

    Quote from FingolfinGR

first a compliment for your idea, good job :)
    and now on the question:
how will we be able to transfer items from one character of the same account to another?
    Reworded to:
“Do you have any details on how items may be transferred from one character to another on the same account e.g. bank or mailing system?”

    Quote from BryanM

In the lolore, Mephisto's blood spawns magma demons when it hits the earth. If there were to be a Mephisto boss some day in the game, would he bleed Magma Demons?
I would like some kind of confirmation of this before I ask a lore question because if it’s not true, I would look like an idiot. Anyway, I think a question of returning bosses would be an interesting question. On that note

    Reworded to:
“In the lore, Mephisto's blood spawned Magma Demons when it hits the earth. If he were to return, would he bleed Magma Demons? And will there be any other returning bosses?”

    Quote from AcidReign

How will increased difficulty levels (Nightmare, Hell) effect the game? Will it be similar to Diablo II's system, or will there be special content, achievements, or environmental changes that we haven't seen before?
Great question! I never thought about this one. Rewording not needed.

    Quote from Daanland

Great idea, my hat off to you Sir

I'm sure the Hardcore Community would like to hear more information, as it is an equal fanbase of the game. My question would be:

Can you provide the Hardcore community with some further information on the mechanics of game, will we still receive Ghost Avatars? Unique stance? Any unique Achievements? Is the mode optional from the start or not?
What do you mean by unique stances?

    Reworded to:
“The hardcore community would like to know if hardcore mode is optional from the start or not?”
“Are there any unique achievements specifically targeted to hardcore characters and will we still have ghost avatars if we die?”

    Quote from Frostbite5

I wonder if they figured out already how they will implement set items (last thing I read about it is that they were thinking about it but they wanted to change the D2 system).
    Reworded to:
“Is the set items system similar to D2’s system or will it be different?”

    Quote from enkeria

Will they put in some enviromental obsticles, like in snow you move slow, in swamps you might take small damage from acidrains?

And will there be larger enemies using smaller ones as weapons, throwing and stabbing you?

    :)
We already have seen in the deserts that there are tornado’s that push back and I believe do small damage. If they reveal act 3 or 4, then perhaps we’ll be able to see snow or swampy environmental obstacles in action. But if they do not, I may ask this one.

    Reworded to:
“Will there be large enemies using smaller ones as weapons, to throw and attack you with?”

    Quote from liquorice

Cool cool. I'd like to ask something like:
What is your thoughts on trading items in Diablo III?

You could go more in-depth, but basically anything about how trading and how the currency will work.

    Thanks for the effort!

I believe they have mentioned that they are focusing gold as the currency. But I don’t think this would be a strong question to ask if there is a time issue. But I do like the trading question.

    Reworded to:
“Any details about the trading system?”

    Quote from Ent1ty

There are Three types of Artisans in the Game, The Blacksmith, The Mystic, and the Jeweler. If I am a Barbarian will I be able to use the Mystic and the jeweler, even though I mostly need only the Blacksmith?

    AND

Will Azmodan Belial Baal and Mephisto be the bosses?
I have already prepared a question about returning bosses if you look at the pervious entries.

    Quote from godallmighty2

will we have to supply our mercs
As far as equipping our mercs? I would assume so. Not much has been revealed about the merc system.

    Reworded to:
“Any details about the mercenary system?”
“Are there any plans to give mercenaries better AI control such as follow only, attack on sight, defend, etc.?”

posted a message on Top 10 Annoying D2 Features Not For D3
I got lazier and lazier on how to solve some of the ‘how to fix its’ so I will leave that to forum readers. With that in mind, let's get rockin'.

    ____________________________________________________
    10. Gold Stash Capacity

Reasonably, there’s a limit to how much gold a player can carry on you and your stash but what happens when you hit your cap and gold just flops in your face when you pick it up? You’re going on a repair spree or gamble for rares. That’s about it.

How to fix it for D3?
Add a bank but if the world’s current technology cannot accomplish this let’s increase the cap limit.
    ____________________________________________________

    9. Gas Potions & Exploding Potions.
It was entertaining to chuck this around to see some fireworks but this type of entertainment only lasts a couple of seconds. It does enough damage to tip over a paper cup so when it dropped, we ignored it.

How to fix it for D3?
Either don’t implement these types of potions or make these potions deal damage in percentages e.g. -10% HP over 5 seconds.
    ____________________________________________________

    8. Running out of Town Portals or Scrolls of Identify
Running back to town was a pain and I’m starting to understand this because it takes you away from the heart of battle even for something minuscule as to refilling your Tome of Identify.

How to fix it for D3?
It is a tome isn’t it?! Having a limit of 100-200 Identifies or Portals would surely fix this annoyance. And Cain will be out a job.

    ____________________________________________________

    7. Item Collecting
Before you can advance to the next quest or act, you had to tediously collected ‘x’ number of items at random places and make it into something e.g. Khalim’s Will, Viper Amulet or Horadric Staff. It was a pain doing another persons job but it had to be done to advance.

How to fix it for D3?
    Don’t implement it!

    ____________________________________________________

    6. The Great Marsh

The Great Marsh is not an appealing place and perhaps it’s the huge jungle with its gloomy ambience to it, the random places that lead to no where or maybe both. And if there was anything a person could do to avoid going through the Great Marsh, they’d do it.

How to fix it for D3?
    Don’t implement it!

    ____________________________________________________

    5. Kaelan, the Palace Guard
If you happen to go site seeing around Lut Gholein and stubble upon its nearest palace…

    “"Halt!!!" shouts Kaelan.
And this is even before you walk up the entrance, this guy is staring you down with his spear.

    "You may not pass."
Yes, no matter how many times you ask him he’s going to block your way and say the same thing over and over because it’s his only purpose.

Did you know: When Kaelan was a baby, his first word was “Halt!!!” He was also holding that same spear.

How to fix it for D3?
Make Kaelan the plumber of the palace and when you try to use the restroom he’ll say, ‘”You may not flush.”

    ____________________________________________________

    4. Your Inventory Is Full
Your inventory is full when a unique, set item or rune drops and you feverously start to click on the item but it starts to flop in front of your face over and over. Before you can even open your inventory, the item is captured by another player.

    How to fix for D3?

    ____________________________________________________

    3. Bone Fetish
These quick, little bastards will run in a group just to stab your knee caps and blow up in your face when they die. We’ve all died at least once from these persistent midgets. These Fetish will make a run but only on the Witch Doctor’s side! Hooray! But will we have to fight against them is anyone’s guess.

    How to fix for D3?
It’s anyone’s guess if the Bone Fetish types will be on the enemies side but if it is then….

    ____________________________________________________

    2. Small Spaces
D2 had several small entrances and passage ways that can put you in a deadly position if you find yourself sandwiched between players that were twiddling their thumbs or admiring the tiled floors. Either you had teleport or quick ‘Save & Exit’ skills to get out of these sticky situations or you were toast.

For instance, the Arcane Sanctuary had passage ways that can only fit two of anything while the Maggot Liar was no different.

Making circles around Duriel in a 30 x 30 room is a boss fighting strategy that was painfully stupid and hopefully Blizz won’t bring it to D3.

    How to fix for D3?
More open environments and entrances that can fit three or more players.

    ____________________________________________________

    1. Hostilities
A random stranger enters your game and hostiles everyone. This is an instant mood killer for the people running the game.

    How to fix for D3?

posted a message on Top 10 Questions Blizzcon Must Answer!
    Quote from ScyberDragon

    6. Crafting - I am not exactly sure what they will share about this and it all really depends on what they are doing with it. In line with this, there are two other systems they have yet to show us and I think it is very possible that this could be one of them. I also think they will be showing us one of the two systems.

When and where did they mention two other systems? If you heard it from the grape vine, it's cool. Just curious.

    Quote from DieHardDiabloFan

Yeah, this belongs to the front page. BTW are we getting live feed this blizzcon?

I'll be attending Blizzcon and I'm thinking on ways I can live feed my pictures, videos, and any new information. But last year's Blizzcon, DiabloFans did do a live chat room thing so I assume they'll do it again.

posted a message on Top 10 Questions Blizzcon Must Answer!

October 22-23, 2010, Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California.

Pack your bags and remember to sprinkle some food for your fish before you leave because this is the place to be where all of our patience pays off and questions will be answered… hopefully. Take a look at these 10 top questions Blizzcon must answer and why!

    10. The New Acts.

We’ve been taken to a journey through the Caldeum, New Tristram, and recently the Borderlands and all of these environments are epic. Which parts of the Diablo world can we expect to make a return and which new ones are we going to see? The Diablo world is a vast one with varied places such as the swampy Marshlands, the dark Dreadlands or to the icy Arreat Crater and these sceneries will possibly make its way in the upcoming acts. Besides, all of this will give us a feel of how close of a finished product Diablo really is.

    9. New Bestiary & Bosses.

What is the Diablo world without something to smash and loot? The Thousand Pounder, the Siegebreaker Assault Beast and King Leoric were all brand spanking new and excitement filled baddies that we just can’t wait to beat the living or non-living crap out of. And if this is just a sample of things to come, it’s a safe bet to say that we have awesome bosses and bestiary stored for us in the oh so near future. I, for one, would like to see the return of zombified Griswold!

    8. The Respec System.

Bashiok gave us the general idea of the respec system but he didn’t really go into detail as to the requirements and how to accomplish a respect. Will it be easy or will it be hard to gain a respect? Is there a cap as to how many times you can respect? What is the cost and are there any penalties?

    Quote from name="Bashiok" date="Blizzcast #13 on 25 February 2010 @ 43:32" »

For Diablo III we don't have it really nailed down yet but some of the main points we do want to hit are that it's more than just a gold cost for changing your mind. Although that will be a major component of it. That it's targeted for specific skills so you're not resetting your entire skill tree, but you're able to target specific skills to reset those ones specifically. To also scale the cost of respecing so early on in the game it's cheaper and easier to respec and as you go farther into the game it will be harder and more expensive.[Source]

    7. Character Resource Systems.

Blizzard announced that each character will have a unique resource system. The Barbarian will have Fury; Witch Doctor, Mana; Wizard, Instability; Monk, ______; and ______, ______. The Barbarian’s Fury system has went through different systems such as the Rage system, the Damage Increasing system and finally to the Endless Fury system which we did not get to see a demo of in last years Blizzcon.

    Rage system

    Damage Increasing system

But to get an idea of this Endless Fury system, here is what Jay Wilson had to say:

    Quote from name="Jay Wilson" date="Diablo III panel @ Blizzcon 2009" »

The Barbarian can essentially just recycle his fury so fast that he was hitting dudes with Leap Attacks or Seismic Slams and stuff like that. If he hits a lot of targets, he generates a lot of Fury and he can just instantly just do another skill again. But if he wastes like a really big AOE skill on one dude, then he wastes a lot of his Fury and then he has to kinda start over a little bit. It’s a really fast pace system, it doesn’t kinda get in the way of his fun and hold him back but it does make him think about where/what he’s going to hit and what kind of skills he’s going to use on what type of monsters. And that makes it a lot more fun to play him.[Source]

Neat. The Endless Fury system feels like the right system for the Barbarian and hopefully this particular system will not get scrapped but it is still being worked on.

    Quote from name="Bashiok" date="2. Re: Core Issues 06/17/2010 12:55:43 PM PDT" »

Fury is going through some further iteration. The orb system wasn't really working out like we had hoped and was creating some roadblocks. The other resource systems, nothing really to share. The wizard instability is reworked as well. More about all those at BlizzCon.[Source]

Flash back to January and a tweet stated that the monk resource system early implementation is complete; therefore, we can expect a finished or near finished resource system for the monk and perhaps all classes.

    Quote from name="Diablo" date="Twitter on 5 January 2010 @ 9:12 AM" »

The monk resource system early implementation complete. A resource certainly fitting of a holy warrior. [Source]

    6. Crafting.

Nothing has been revealed about crafting except that the Horadic Cube will not be returning (no exact source could be found for this). So what cube-like structure will we be using this time to fulfill our needs to mix in Wirt’s leg and make things mysterious doings appear? Not a Rubix cube that's for damn sure! Hopefully, a completely new crafting system that is more effective with tons-o-recipes.

    5. The Unannounced.

There are several aces in the magician-like sleeves of Blizzard just waiting for the right timing to dish out a magical spectacle that will strike us in awe. Will there be a new system relating to questing, gambling, banking, guilds, etc? The unknown is sooooo titillating!

    4. Player Versus Player

How will it work and what features will it have? No information has been given and we are all dying to know if Blizzcon will be the event that tells us this info.

Quote from name="Bashiok" date="24. Re: PK options restored in D3 07/02/2008 05:28:58 PM PDT" »

...That doesn't mean that PvP won't have its own focus, but those are details and features we aren't yet discussing.[Source]

    3. The Rune system.

Last year, we got a taste of how l33t the Rune System can dramatically change your character’s skills to further customize your character. But this year we want to see any new changes and more in-depth information on its possible uses. Also in the last year’s playable demo, runes were not droppable so we’re hoping this year that it is droppable and that we can tinker around with it.

    2. The Fifth Class.

A lot of speculation has been building up to what exactly the next class will be ranging from the common guesses such as the Ranger or the Bard and to most unlikely such as the Vampire or Werewolf. So, let’s end this forever long speculation and announce us the last class during Blizzcon 2010!

    1. A Release Date.

Blizzard keeps giving us the run around on when we can see Diablo III on the shelves by telling us ‘Soon’ or this recent comment from Bashiok:

Quote from name="Bashiok" date="12. Re: any progress on the game?? 07/25/2010 03:03:47 PM PDT" »

Stupid amounts of progress have been made. It's stupid. The amounts. They're just silly in the enormity of them. And the progress.[Source]

All of this of course, leaves us to cross our fingers and pray on our beds at night for the day we get to hear an actual release date!

    ----------------------------------

    Honorable mentions.

    System Requirements.
    Beta Demo.
    Easter Eggs (secret cow level).
