Guns would tarnish the basic setting of the Diablo universe, in my opinion.

For one, it just feels wrong chronologically. Guns are from the modern age, and Diablo feels much older.

Specifically, Diablo's playable and NPC characters seem out of an era too primitive for guns. Witch Doctors, Amazons, Barbarians, Monks, and Sorcerer/Wizards/etc were at their real (or mythical) power in worlds where guns didn't exist. Guns historically overpowered any cool native martial arts and technologies after the 1600's.

So for Diablo to be a world where steel, wood, and magic are credible fighting tools...guns should not be present.

Note - I'm not thrilled with the term "grenades" in Diablo. I can believe that primitive explosives could be concocted (or conjured) but I'd call them something less modern, like a "flask".

posted a message on On the subject of Leaping...
Interesting that so many fans don't mind not being able to jump in a 3D world. Before the game was announced, I would have expected the game to have evolved into a WoW/Hellgate swivel-camera perspective. Not that I mind the "classic" isometric.

You all also raise some excellent points, which makes me rethink and restate my issue:

    - It's not "leaping" fanciful heights or distances I care much about...but rather the ability to jump, climb, or otherwise traverse realistic world obstacles such as a waist-high stone wall. For that matter, I never liked that I couldn't cross a shallow brook or climb a hill where I wished.

Oh...sorry about the reference to D3 class avatars as "toons" We're in the Diablo world now...I should have known better!

As I remember, the Barbarian leap ability in D2 really set him apart as an able character. Like being a 3D being in a world of flatlanders. I'm hoping that all classes in D3 will be able to leap. It's not so much to create a level playing field...but actually more because the progression of reality in 3D games since Y2K now leads me to expect my avatars to be able to leap over basic obstacles.

    Examples:

    - The fact that the Witcher couldn't jump in-game, despite being shown clambering like Spiderman in the cutscenes, ruined the play for me.

    - Likewise in KOTOR, your "jedi" character couldn't even hop up a curb!

Of course...these games sold well, so maybe you should exactly the opposite of what I say! Alas for me, the standards set by games like WoW, Oblivion, and Hellgate make a jump-able toon a basic feature for a sense of immersion and power.

posted a message on Will the "Tristram" theme music from Diablo 1 return?
I'm hoping that there's some location in Diablo 3 where you can still hear this music...my favorite theme from any video game (although Mood Patrol had a funky beat for its time...)

In D2, you could of course hear this track in the ruins of Tristram. Heck, in D2 I'd go back there repeatedly just to listen to it...before the age of MP3.

Can we have it again? Please?

Maybe a new remix or remaster, done well, would suit the new game.
