posted a message on Inferno Revealed

At gamescom, Blizzard has finally revealed their plans for end game in DiabloWiki.com - Diablo III Diablo III. Called DiabloWiki.com - Inferno Inferno, we first got a hint about this in the beta interview where it was said that players would have more difficulties to face in the "Hell and Inferno" difficulties. While at the time we did not know exactly what inferno was, we do now.

Inferno will be a fourth and even harder difficulty that unlocks after beating the game through the Hell difficulty and getting your character to level 60. Designed as an end game objective for players, monsters faced in this difficulty will all be at least level 61. Designed with more HP, damage, resistances, and more aggressive AI, the monsters pose to face players with the most difficult challenge of the game. Along with this, some monsters and bosses will even have extra skills at their disposal that you will only see in Inferno.

The objective of the Inferno difficulty is to give players something to do once capped but would avoid running the same bosses over and over again like the Baal runs of Diablo II. The entire game will plateau in this difficulty meaning that there will be no one particular place that would be best to farm for items. Blizzard is hoping that this will give the players an incentive to repeat the entire content of the game while looking for the best items and not just one section repeatedly. Even if players find a particular area that maximizes results for their efforts, Blizzard said they will add incentives to run through the entire content.

    Official Blizzard Quote:

The idea was that we wanted a difficulty mode where the entire game was viable. So you don't have to pick and choose key areas [to replay].

We do expect there to be a certain amount of... runs to get items, but we wanted players to do it over a lot more content. We're trying to make sure that there's a lot more opportunities for players to see a lot more variety.
Now for the incentive to put yourself through this challenge of Inferno. Blizzard has said that only the best of the best gear will drop in Inferno. Both statistically and visually, if players want to find the best gear for their characters, they will have to make their way through Inferno multiple times. Along with armor and weapons, other high-end items like top ranked DiabloWiki.com - runestones runestones will only drop in Inferno.

With end game finally revealed, and Beta beginning in a "little while" what else could gamescom hold in store for Diablo III. Stay tuned on Saturday when Diablo's two performances and interview are being held for some more possible news.

There was also 14 new screen shots that were shown as well that you can find on our wiki.

You can also check out force's video covering this news as well.

And in case you did miss it:

    Official Blizzard Quote:

As a side note, any rumors you may have heard about a gate to Diablo’s Burning Hells opening in Cologne are completely unfounded. Seriously, nothing is happening at Rudolfplatz from the evening of August 16 — especially nothing to do with demonic invasions.
It turns out that Diablo, himself (herself?) did indeed open the gates of Hell at Rudlofplatz on the 16th.

A special thanks to Lorgarn for sharing the pictures and evilenginen9 for informing on the Inferno news and hicksology for starting the discussion on the topic.

Why would they sell below value when they can just turn it into gold themselves while playing?

    Official Blizzard Quote:

You sit at your typewriter, hands frozen in fear by the sound of crumpling paper from the darkness behind you. Shadows of broken quills encroach on your sight's periphery but slither out of view when you turn toward them. Summoning your courage, you lash out at the apparitions before they fade, only to awaken in a cold sweat with pencils and pens gripped tight in your clenched fists. You know what this dream foretells: the 2011 Global Writing Contest is upon us!

That's right everybody. It is time again for Blizzard's Global Writing Contest. This year, the lucky winner will get a chance to go to Blizzard's HQ and dine with the team's writers. Not to mention, you get almost every book they have written and signed by the authors. Short stories (2,500 - 7,500 words) of any of their franchises are eligible, although we here would especially like to see a Diablo winner. So, get your pen and paper out (or keyboard) and start writing. Submissions are due by October 15th.

If you would like to submit your work for peer reviews and critiques, please feel free to post your stories in the Fan Fiction section.

For those of you who don't like to write, Blizzard is still taking submissions for their art contest as well.

I don get how roleplaying must be done with permanent choices?

Let's take real life as an example. In real life, I am a restaurant manager. This is my role. However, next week I could get a new job and change my role. Not permanent.

Ok, now a story. I have a character that is a thief. However, after one day realizing the effect is stealing has on his victims he changes his morals and becomes policeman.

Now for q video game. I play a summon wd. Zombie dogs are out and fighting when another poison wd comes along and I like his poison skills so I switch. I'm still my same wd. The role does not have to be permanent.

Again, this is all assuming that you do switch. My personal opinion is that even though every skill is accessible, people will still choose their main six and use them for 75% of the game.

As for the min/max thing, the open skills actually allows people to just play how they want to without worrying about min/maxing. You can play however you want, if you get stuck, find another skill build that works. No need to sit and plan out forever. So, I'm kind of confused on why you think this makes the open skills bad?

What it all comes down to is people who want to switch can. Those who want to be strict on themselves cannot switch as well. Really, the people who are upset about this are really just trying to press their own playstyle on everyone else. Why not leave it open so both groups can be happy.

Alright, so your main point against the skill system (that other people have because you like it) is that it destroys character building.

I will counter argue with two points.

The first is that there is still character building. The only difference is that you do not have to plan out your whole build before you even start your character. Having to do so before hand is very unfriendly for new comers. They don't know what they will and will not need. Instead, what D3 has done is let you build your character while playing. This is much more user friendly and forgiving if you mess up. You won't have to restart your whole character because of one bad choice. In my opinion, getting to build your character while playing is much more fun than sitting in front of a wiki for hours planning it out on paper.

I do understand that some people like to pre-plan. To this, I say that this also helps with character building. I know I want a summon wd. I'm going to look forward to those levels that unlock the spells I planned to use for this build. Again I am building the character while I play even with pre-planning.

As for the runes, I think you might be underestimating the strategy and build forming these will be. With each runestone having a different effect on each skill, you cannot just transfer a rank 7 alabaster rune from one skill to another because it's effect may not work with the build and playstyle you have planned. Blizzard is also looking into locking runestones into a particular skill meaning you have to plan and build your character with specific spells to rune even though you have every spell available.

@italo I'm not being arrogant by saying I have yet to see any real arguments against the change. If you have one, please let me know.

As for the no skill points ruining build. All I can say is you are not looking at the system/game as a whole and what effect it is actually having. Builds will still exist. People will still focus on certain skills despite being able to swap them. Investment in runes is really taking over skill points in the aspect that you are looking it at. If you can give me a more thorough reason on how it destroys character building I would love to discuss it.

    Quote from Ariumpa

Guys in general I love listening to the podcast, but can we please get some subjective opinion on some of the big issues you mentioned in your latest podcast.
To me your views whenever pro Diablo 3 are well articulated, but whenever they are negative anything all we get is "Oh well I guess they did x to stop y, but I really don't mind etc etc"
In the interest of a fair and balanced podcast why not invite someone in who can actually articulate how they feel as someone who is not happy with the changes rather than you guys just attempting to verbalize the negative reactions yourselves.
It doesn't help when all three of you are pro RMAH and Online only and then proceed with the "Well I guess some people don't like x, but..."
I strongly get the feeling that Blizzard is tainting your opinion via inviting you to press events and giving you exclusive access. Hey the best way to stay in the ship is not rock the boat right?
I expect the big gaming news sites to recite all the drivel they are spoon fed by devs/publishers because their paychecks are linked to their relationship with them, but this is a fan podcast and arguably (due to its popularity) it has transcended the opinion of yourself and Sixen and should be really making more of an effort to play devils advocate.

The problem is that we do not want to fill our podcasts with QQ'ing. We give logical reasoning to why we have our opinions for or against everything. Most arguments against the changes Blizzard has made is mostly people just QQ'ing with no real logic or reasoning for their opinion against the change other than being against change.

If you can come up with logical and reasonable debates against the changes, please let us know them and we will discuss them.

Are you guys creating b.net accounts through diablo 2? You need to do this. Then on the forums, select the correct server (the one you chose when you created it in D2), put in your d2 account name and password and then your d2 cd key.

the problem is that there are already scrolls and elixirs that give you temp buffs which fit in better than a chicken drumstick.
