I'm working on putting together a server at the moment actually, but a lot of the server admin mods are out of date still making SMP less fun. Unless Scyber decides to bring this back eventually, I will open mine up to more Dfans people once it's stable.

I'll definitely be a part of this. Hopefully we can start it with a better building plan though, as one of the problems with the last server is it started as just a bunch of people randomly building everywhere, and by the time we finally got a plan a lot of people had left.

posted a message on Patch 1.2.0
I'm sad they did nothing to bring back reapers, even just a little bit. On 1.1, they nerfed them on two levels - requiring supply depot before barracks, and making so you needed a factory to get the nitro packs upgrade. While the supply depot before rax was completely justified (eliminated any sort of proxy cheese), the nitro packs made reapers completely useless, because it's just not economic making reapers in the mid game. I hoped blizzard would realize that no one past bronze is using reapers anymore, but I guess not. If they wanted to reduce the nerf, they should have made it so the nitro packs upgrade is 100/100 like it was in the beta.

    Edit: CHANNELS! THANK YOU BLIZZARD

I think Disintegrate should work more like a laser burst. When you start charging you get a very clear thin laser line, and over the next 1-2 seconds it rapidly increases in size, strength, and cost. The thin line can be rotated easily and can be used to harass. The big beam can be used as a serious damage dealing ability, but it is much easier to avoid because you rotate much slower. I think this will make it feel more natural and less like a laser pointer, but it will at the same time fill a very similar function.

I REALLY like this. it makes a lot of sense. +1

And as far as Disintegrate goes, it never struck me as OP. Having to stand still and its low damage, (it was ticking for 15-20 on targets with 800+ hp in those PvP videos) makes it a pretty situational skill. Like Bashiok said, its easy to get out of line of site in those arenas. The only thing that struck me as a problem with it is that if you're a Disintegrate Wizard, what do you do during a boss fight other than avoid damaging stuff and sit there casting Disintegrate? Like if its your most damaging still thats the only way I see it working out. I'm sure thats not the case though, and if it is, I'm avoiding that boredom at all costs.

Keep in mind that bosses are going to be a lot more interesting than they were in D2. Blizzard said themselves that they want to make bosses more like a Zelda boss, and from what we've seen so far, there is going to be a lot more happening in a boss fight that just a simple attack/dodge scenario. Couple that with the number of skills and rune variances, I find it hard to believe you will want to just use one skill.

how about instead of a delay/whip effect, just make her pivot speed greatly reduced. Delay/whip will make it too confusing to use. Reduction in pivot speed will make it not only more realistic, but more accurate, as you would expect with such a spell.

That's good thinking you have there! It certainly fits well with the Bible! I enjoyed the movie! I was actually surprised because it was better than I thought it would be!

Note: It's Alan, not Adam! Alan Bradley! ;)

Argggh. and i thought it fit perfectly. still, the character tron somewhat fits adam.

I don't know about you, but a "short range cone attack that it super strong" sounds like an extremely interesting proposition to me.

same thought here. I like how they're encouraging "melee wizard" what with certain skills, and now with runes :D

posted a message on TRON (spoiler alert!)
I saw tron a couple of nights ago, and my first impression was how awesome the soundtrack (daft punk) was and how awesome the action scenes were. But, the story was a little weak... until I started to think about it more. (I did a whole Catcher in the Rye symbolism thingy) As you know, the grid was built by Flynn. Flynn couldn't be there all the time, so he created C.L.U and Tron to help him. C.L.U was made in Flynns image, and Tron was made in the image of Flynns partner, Adam. If we look at this from a biblical viewpoint, Flynn is God, C.L.U. is Satan, and Tron is Adam, (and on a side note, I guess that would make Sam, Jesus). Flynn is constantly referred to as "the creator" by all the programs, and Tron's so-called 'catchphrase' is "I fight for the user", and the user. This relates to a common Christian crusade theme of "I fight for God". I guess that the Isos are mankind (?), but the scene where Flynn describes them goes by really fast and its hard to figure out what they are supposed to be exactly.

If anyone can add to or fill in holes of my theory, that would be great. Or if you have counter-evidence that disproves it, I'd like that too. I don't go to church or anything, so my knowledge of the bible is greatly limited and simple. If you're a bible buff and saw TRON, mebe you could help?

That is not exactly what they said. They will not let something be too overpowered, they will nerf it, but only for PvP.

I just want to clarify that Blizzard had said at blizzcon that in no way did they want PvE to be affected by PvP imbalance. So if disintegrate is too over-powered in the arena, it's going to stay that way because it is straight awesome in PvE.

posted a message on Only 5 runes?
    Quote from Apoc

I would be surprised if they don't add some penalty to removing runes. In the demo you could just pop them out and move them around freely, but I'm sure that was done to give people the ability to play around with them. It's not really a fair comparison to D2 runes because they won't only come from drops - you will be able to craft them and that provides a huge avenue to getting them.

Oh ok nvm, i thought they were just random drops. What are the materials to make a rune? cuz that could be a way to increase rarity

    Quote from Ophion

Well, some runes are obviously a lot more affected by the levels. Take the WD fire bomb for example. A plain increase in damage is not very interesting, but the bounce rune will do some very impressive things when it increases in level.

    No rune: no bounce
    lvl 1 rune: 1 bounce
    lvl 7 rune: 7 bounces

7 bounces is probably enough to cover the entire screen, maybe more. Now that is a massive increase from the single bounce in lvl 1.

7 bounces is such a large number, and if you're spamming it, its pretty much extremely OP. If this indeed is how rune levels are going to work, then I think that the rarity of the last level rune will be equivalent to the rarity of a HR in diablo 2.

    Rune 1 = El
    Rune 7 = Ist

Edit: I was just thinking. If some runes will have extremely low drop rates, then will we be able to unsocket a skill and use the rune elsewhere? It would be a shame to waste a level 7 rune on something you later regret.

I seem to remember in a panel that the Jeweler (or blacksmith?) could unsocket gems in items... Will he have a similar ability regarding skill runes?
