I stumbled upon that site a few weeks ago, after I read the Changes to the Lore thread here in the forums.

Man, does that bring back some wicked-sweet memories of the rabid anticipation I felt in the couple of months prior to the release of Diablo, and those first several months of playing the game!

Chancies are the unique chain gloves called 'Chance Guard'. They add +20%-40% chance of finding a magic item.

    Gotcha. Thanks.

I used to be pretty excited about games, it was that time when you could buy a game and not worry about it sucking... These days, I can't touch anything without testing it, first...

The last time I experienced that time was when I bought LOD.
That is the newest game I own, or have even played. All of my favorites are either ancient [from the '80s, or earlier], or Diablo-related.

Nothing else seems to pass the test these days.

Big-time "Hellz Yeah!" for weather/environmental effects.

I remember the first time I played D2, I came close to creaming myself when it started raining, and then again when it started getting dark, with the crickets and owls.

I think minute details would be great... like the possibility of you/your party, and monsters taking damage from lightning strikes; lightning setting-off fires on the landscape; various wind-speeds affecting the environment (blowing leaves and branches off trees/straw off roof-tops); rain and snow causing steam to rise from, and also weakening, fire-born demons; danger of getting caught and swept along in a flash flood; rock-slides in rocky terrain...

Got reply. It is not a lot of info, but at least we can rule out what it is not. I was told the Diablo 2 patch is not a content patch. It is more a maintenance patch.

Drat. I was really jonesin' for some new content.

Thanks for the warm welcome, folks!

I have played multi-player in years past (Diablo I; way back yonder in 2000).
I've shied away from it because I'm not a huge gamer to begin with, as far as variety (the Diablo series has been pretty much it since Dec. '96; not much else has been able to hold my interest).
And when I finally found someone else who even knew what Diablo was (most of my friends aren't as geeky as I am, and I haven't socialized very much in the online gaming community), I didn't like the stories I heard about how people behaved on Battle.net in those early days. Never been much for the PK-style of play, so trust has been slow to come.

But beyond the social aspect, when I got my sister and her boyfriend interested in the game so we could play online, I couldn't keep up with them because they had better, faster computers than I had at that time. I had a DSL connection by then, but my machine couldn't handle online play -- too s l o w.

(As an aside, they grew to like the game so much that they bought Diablo II the day it hit the shelves, and teased me about it unmercifully for a year! I was able to build a new box, eventually, and get my hands on the game, and LOD, but I have yet to become an expert player. My sister is better than I am, to this day! HaHa!)

That computer just died in January, and I've built a better one, since, but the old feelings are still difficult to let go. That, and my skill-level isn't anywhere near what most of you folks play at.

Bah. Enough rambling for now. ;)

    Glad to be aboard!

I've been kickin' around here since Summer '06 in a kind of stay-awhile-and-listen mode, but just started posting recently.

I've been a huge fan of Blizzard since 1996 when I purchased WarCraft II in September '96, after reading about it in one of my sister's PC Gamer magazines. Shortly thereafter, I found an article about the then unreleased Diablo, which started me foaming at the mouth in anticipation. I've been playing since the day it was released. (I still have my original CD-ROM of the game, too.)

I couldn't afford Diablo II when it was released, and didn't have a computer that could handle it at the time, anyway.
My first experience with it didn't come until after LOD had been released and I had built a new machine. I've never played DII Classic.
I'm also a bit of a lone wolf (or more specifically a lone bear since I'm partial to playing a druid, heavy on the werebear skills), playing single-player games much more often than multi-player games for various reasons, so I've missed out on quite a bit that the game has to offer.

Anyway, the recent talk of a new DII patch got me stoked, so I've been hanging around more often, lately.

    How y'all doin'?

Out of curiousity, is it just me, or are there bits and pieces of the original Diablo catacombs music playing in the catacombs of Act II (specifically, the heavy drumming parts)? It's been awhile, so I'm not entirely sure (and I can't be half-assed to check at the moment).

You heard correctly. That sort of thing happens all throughout the Diablo II soundtrack. I think that's a big reason why I like the Rogue Encampment theme so much; being a variation on the Tristram theme.

Yeah. You know that musicky-soundin' stuff you hear while you're playing?

    My favorite is Rogue.
I think Sisters is my second favorite. (both of these actually comprise "town1.wav" in the d2music.mpq file on the CD-ROM.)

But I gotta say, I love the soundtracks to both games; intensely so. The number one reason why I bought an iPod was so I could carry the Diablo soundtracks with me where ever I go.

its the book in 13 days... my guess lol...

He's said it's not about the patch, and I don't see the books having any more popular appeal than a D2 patch, as far as half of the internet goes (fans of the Diablo Universe aren't anywhere close to comprising half of the internet, or even half of the gaming sites).
I mean, I had to go to three different bookstores yesterday just to find two books in the Sin War trilogy.
There were a shitload of WoW and Halo books, though.

I finally got my hands on a couple of the novels today -- Birthright and Scales of the Serpent. Couldn't afford the entire trilogy on this trip.
This will be my first foray into the novels; looking forward to it.
