posted a message on average game for D2 1.2 players - JW IS WRONG
i don't think they should balance it around 4 players...
i liked it in diablo 2 where it scaled: ("diablo's minions grow stronger" "diablo's minions weaken")
but that you couldn't (reasonably) get to the highest levels without team effort (or using multiple games run yourself)
balanced to one player. scaled based on players in the game. rewards EASIER or FASTER to attain through team work but not unattainable for the soloist.

that was one of the best things about d2.. PERFECT for the solo player but also allowed for grouping that was balanced around the number of players.
i really hope they don't mess with that.
i realize people want to play together raid together.. but there's a lot of games that cater to that playstyle and leave solo players on the sidelines.

i hope d3 can please both kinds of players (soloers and those that want hard fights that take the coordination of many) and i agree that balance around 4 players seems to please no one.
but i'm not sure that they have said that they're balancing the game around having 4 players present; just that it was the current max allowed in a game.
i'im hoping that it scales with level and that more than 4 is the max, but just have to wait and see.

    edit: also about hostility
    Quote from "Num3n" »
the cool thing though was having the ability for it to happen

also i agree with this. i really hope that public game lists and the ability to hostile make it to d3.
i played a lot of public hardcore games and i loved the thrill of not knowing if that person that just joined is planning to hunt meph or me; no other game had that

    dimebog thanks for your reply
was there an interview where he said that? or were you present when he responded?
    just remember this before:

Quote from From a Leipzig interview »

Question: The Barbarian is indeed the exact same as the one in D2, only 20 years later. So what impact will it have on the story when I select a female Barbarian instead?

Wilson: I'm not sure if we've decided what we're going to do in regards to that. In general, we want to make sure that each class has their own unique background and history, and should also note that these stories won't differ between male and female versions. The Barbarians will of course have a few little things that need to be changed, but in large part, the genders are similar. We'll probably only change small textual things about the female Barbarian. The Witch Doctor will be treated as an outsider, being from foreign lands, but the Barbarian is very intimidating because of his size and strength. We want him to have a stronger feeling as a roleplaying game character by making him have a unique impact on the world and not be so generalized.

Wrong. They confirmed that the storyline will take gender into consideration.

which could mean simply changing the pronoun in monologues directed at your character

    Quote from "ansl" »
Hmmm "when you die" - hopefully HC will have very different gameplay features regarding potions and townportals... TP's are such a fundamental lovable thing in the Diablo univers.. sry for sounding negative but this is sounding more and more like a MMPORG than a fast paced RPG. Oh well, will wait and see!

On the subject: Yes pots are lame - they can be fixed through cooldowns, I realized this as i started gaming DII again recently. TP's could also have a cooldown imo which would make them more valuable and make the player think a second time before using them.

it concerns me as well from a hardcore perspective; being trapped outside of town doesn't sound like fun; when my character is on the line i don't need things to be "more tense" and less convenient.
no potions (no rejuvs?) no tps woohoo hc is sounding like a blast. i'll go two feet in 20 minutes woah so fun!
    no.. -_-

then if you're just thinking about travel time.. i hate constant worlds for one reason: getting anywhere is a huge pain in the ass.
being able to rapidly get where you want is something that made d2 different and better than other boring, tedius games with constant worlds.

so i also agree with this guy
    Quote from "ApplePie" »
Being able to teleport to town when necessary was one of the major things that truly separated Diablo from the other less-fun games.

edit: also to those championing slow cast tps with a cooldown.. hellgate london had them. they were not as cool as tps but would be better than nothing at all.

The Tristram music is to this day one of the best bits of music to ever bless a video game (or any media for that matter) imo. Thanks Matt, I sure hope that I can look forward to hearing your tunes in D3.

i was REALLY disappointed to hear that matt uelmen wouldn't be working on d3s music; i hope that they continue the same themes and atmospheres that he did; they really did make the game for me
(so far i'm not impressed with the new sound)

posted a message on One lifelong fan loses interest in Diablo III
i know im set in my opinions and for me my basic mindset is that, in considering other games including d3, the ways in which they differ from d2 are their shortcomings.
but at the same time i'm trying to accept the differences that d3 will have.

i agree with what mahamoti and others have said about respecs, inventory management, and auto stat distribution; these changes are a big disappointment but i'm trying to keep an open mind.

i feel like removing stat selection from character customization options is only removing potential diversity, lessening the control over your character's development, and ultimately hurting the game.
yes 95% of the people in d2 can and do use similar stats.. but the possibility to use whatever item you find or create strange (perhaps better) builds is a great and valuable concept.
but as i said.. in trying to keep an open mind.. maybe it just won't work in d3 and some other valuable concept can take its place.

as for respecs.. i can see both sides but i still don't like the idea; i'm still of the "if you mess up.. at 98? tough luck. reroll." kind of mentality.
but i do concede that it depends a lot on how much of a time investment it takes to get to "end game" and how fun or tedious that time investment is.
blizzard will continue to cater to new and part-time gamers because it broadens their player base.

for inventory.. i don't like the wow style. but i'm also a big tetris fan ><
if it's big it should take up more room; adds some immersion value.

for graphics.. i've never cared that much about graphics. for me (and i think most d2 fans) in terms of importance: the graphics < the gameplay

i don't care if i'm a blobby box with a stick as long as the gameplay is exceedingly fun. it is important to me however that the game remain true to its roots in that it is accessible to people on both ends of the spectrum: those with monster systems as well as those with outdated ones. d2 was always good in that respect.

as for the atmosphere..it was looking a bit WoWish and cartooney and bright in some shots but the more recent videos have put some of my fears about the way it will look to rest. (i still fear about the music though and wish they'd get Matt Uelmen back)

i will wait and see though and hopefully come to find a new standard by which to compare all other games

posted a message on Game Director Jay Wilson announces news
expected hardcore mode, but was relieved nonetheless for its confirmation

i hate side quests but realize im in a minority on that.. just hoping their not too painfully long or neccessary for character development

i liked potions and i'm sad to see them go... using potions and rejuvs made a lot of things possible that would have been tedious and annoying otherwise. (for example mana potions vs standing around waiting for mana regen)
and on hardcore especially they gave you a safety net that allowed you to play more aggressively.. a playstyle that i prefer over going slow and careful

like everyone else i think 4 players is too low so i'm hoping that they can realize their 8 player ambitions.. (and also hoping that the public list of games and "hostility" are also incorporated in that "easier join system")

and i don't like the auto assignment of stats; i liked the system in d2 where you chose your stats and those choices shaped your character and allowed or disallowed you to use gear; it created a lot of options for character customization that wouldn't have existed otherwise:
    you want a melee sorc?
low vita high mana, eng shield sorc?
want to look different than most people at the expense of some str?
want to have a 10k life barb/4k selfbo vita paly?
330 dex (max block) spirit shield asn?
    etc..

your skill choices, stat choices, gear choices, charm choices (merc choices) all together shaped your character. removing one or more of those as a variable option removes some potential to choose how your character ends up.

posted a message on How to stop d2jsp and keep trading fun?
on my realm (uswest hcl) and many others it became impossible after about 2006? to do any sort of meaningful trading without using d2jsp.. and since people can purchase fg for money it really streamlined the process for those that wanted to shortcut getting end game gear by replacing in game time, effort, and dedication with cash.

d2jsp magnified all the the inequality found in-game:
with few exceptions, those that used cheats (bots/mh/iphunters) have the most fg
with few exceptions, those that use real money for in game items/fg have the most fg

i think that any exchange of in game items for real life money (or exchange of real life money for currency used to procure in game items) is crappy and i hope that (their own stuff aside) blizzard does all in their power to shut down sites that are used for such purposes.
and i also Really hope that the stuff that blizzard intends to sell to its users are only of superficial value.. only adding to the character's look.

hopefully an auction house and other in-game currency will exist and be sufficient for trading so that there will be no need for d2jsp and the like

    Quote from name="Elfen Lied" »
asn is the code for Asian. or is it azn?

is it a joke? not sure
anyway blueshrunken is right, asn or sin are both short for assassin and like teky i'm also lamenting that assassins so far seem not to be included in the plans (can always hope for an expansion ><)
assassin was my class and i'll play whatever is closest to it

however, i'd prefer no assassin (and hopefully a future addition of one) as opposed to having the assassin class lumped into an assassin/rogue/hunter/amazon rolled into one class

i agree with panda in that there will most likely be that ranged rolled into one kind of class and then some type of paladin or anti-paladin

i'm hoping for some caster-melee type.. as i like that hybrid playstyle the best.
in the end when all the 5 d3 classes are exposed, i have faith that all of us will be able to find a class that is enjoyable and somewhat similar to our current favorite playstyle

posted a message on Anti Cheat may be the most important part of the game
i agree that there must be stringent anti cheating measures for d3 to be enjoyable in the long term.
    i love d2 so much yet cannot bring myself to play it anymore due to the amount of cheating that exists and is seemingly permitted;
just seeing it in it's current and deformed state is hard for me: d2 is currently completely ravaged by hacks and it's my favorite game. (it's like seeing an old friend or lover lying in the gutter high on meth and trying to prostitute him/herself .. lol)

for me, cheating on diablo is its one downfall. i'd play it to infinity if they only maintained bnet and banned the cheaters consistently

i do have a bit of hope though now that blizzard seems to be taking a more aggressive stance towards mods on WoW

i know there will be hacks for d3, i just hope that they can police it with enough force and success to preserve a fair atmosphere.

posted a message on Top 10 Monsters You'd Hate To See in Diablo III
i disagree with a lot of his choices..
his top one was my favorite to kill with sin just kill a few and death sentry the rest and they domino down.. so fun

also about souls i liked that they could one shot someone that wasn't properly geared and prepared.. but eh

the main mob i'd do away with is oblivion knights and specifically iron maiden
i am a hardcore player and so that one spell from that one mob pretty much eliminates all the melee-only chars from the game
rarely if ever will you find barbs that aren't bo slaves or duelers on hardcore
rarely if ever will you find melee druids that aren't duelers
rarely if ever will you find melee palys that aren't just for ubers
rarely if ever will you find kick/ww sins that aren't just duelers
    etc
in hardcore you can not play those characters in chaos sanc or doing baal unless you are excruciatingly careful

for pve one mob that can eliminate a whole playstyle or class tree shouldn't be possible in my opinion

i'd love to see melee be a viable option for d3 (as well as caster)
