Oh, they should definitely keep some form of a crafting system in there. The problem with the original one was that there were so few items even worth crafting. They need to make it a much more viable system by allow items which are actually useful either. I would suggest that they don't have the system be so restricted and allow a higher level of randomization in crafted items so that they function more like good to excellent rare items.

The real world involves a set amount of money controlled by the government. They decide how much money to put into circulation. In a video game its like everyone has a money printing machine (kill monsters).

This is the greatest difference between a real world economy and one in a game like D3. A game has no theoretical limit that can be reached. A player can always become more rich, in a multitude of ways. I strictly play hardcore and will strictly play hardcore in D3, including my first char (assuming they don't want me to complete the game in softcore first which is really lame anyways), so this isn't as big of an issue because items can actually be destroyed. Items can be destroyed in softcore, but that's usually just someone doing stupid and/or muling and droping so it's highly unlikely in comparison. This can be addressed by proper goldsinks though, and continual ways to spend new riches. You will almost never completely stop a player from continuing to grow richer, bar some ridiculous mechanic, but you can control it in some ways and by doing so stimulate a good trade system.

Look at the screenshots? Or videos? Or read the thousand other threads about the art? Personally it looks great to me, and even if some areas are lighter it only adds contrast to the dungeons.

Sorry but I just had to say something.
This guy must be living in a cave.

What is money? You know, cold hard cash. You can't really eat it, drink it, play with it, it's just money. However, the value goods are measured in money. Therefore, by trading something for money, it enables you to buy something else with money.

This basic principle is what I imagine the "new use" for gold.

To sum it all up, "gold" = "equivalent concept of US dollar"

Even better, you can think of that Diablo II site which has forum gold as their currency. The only thing blizzard would be doing is bypassing this 3rd party and creating their own currency in the form of gold in-game.

PS: I did not read any other threads. I saw this one and raged.

FALSE. the us dollar is a representation of a giant stash of gold somewhere in for dix or nox or one of those places. for each dollar you can receive a certin amount of gold.

I find this a little iffy. I imagine if they released D3 and had an item called 'gold' that would drop, but not actually be directly useful for anything, nobody would use it. Ever. Everyone would just throw it on the ground and have a dance party on the sparkling floor. Any trades would be for items. That needs to be addressed by having proper goldsinks and uses for gold that depend on something other than player-player interactions. If the game were strictly player-player interactions they would cut out the middleman, but by having player-npc interactions that revolve around gold, and only gold, you then can start to generate a rudimentary economy. This works in our system (I am in Canada, but we have the dollar too so I will just use that) by considering the government as a sort of npc, or collection of npcs, which only accepts the dollar as a trading item. Once that is established (and that is essentially how it was established when we moved away from the barter system) it will snowball into more and more player-player type interactions based around the dollar. This is without the exclusion of bartering, though, and that system ties in nicely with the dollar.

Aren't you people wanting a black shirt sort of missing the point of the shirt?

Not at all, it would still have the cutesy logo on it. It is simply a matter of background colour preference.

What, is AVERAGE JOE GRAY supposed to be cute?

posted a message on Auto Stats and Vitality
I really like the autostat system. As it has been noted (dozens of times), almost every ended up with roughly the same stats in the end anyways. But that isn't my biggest argument in favour of it. Autostats, especially with the newly improved stats which are more specific and important than in diablo 2--which are pretty confirmed to not be just for the demo, and items no long have stat requirements but are based off level, class, and possibly combination of something else--will allow the designers to better balance the game. They will be able to understand, roughly, where each character is at certain areas of the game and adjust rewards accordingly. This also puts more emphasis on customization through randomized equipment; we may no longer find ourselves all speced the exact same at the end of the game, because we will be changing our character to fit our playstyle through tradeoffs in gear. Along that same lines, it is also confirmed that there are a couple systems they haven't even announced which could further add to customization (speculation: there was a talisman that was inactive during the demo, but this may be able to be equipped with runes or other items that adds specific stat bonuses).

Having elixers is a big NoNo. It's been explained why, so I won't go into it too much, but I'll add that it will also cripple the economy because higher end characters will desperately seek out these elixers (especially considering that stats add things like SPELL DAMAGE).

well i have a question, what happens when you are fighting a boss and there are no 'crowds' around you to get orbs? Do you basicly just take it and die?

I think they've mentioned or at least brought up the idea that bosses will drop orbs as you hit them. I also remember hearing someone talking about having fountains around a boss that slowly regenerate so you have to time when you're using them.

    --OR--

Boss might have periodic summons that you can target to get some orbs to drop.

    Good question.

I believe there is a Barbarian skill which increases the chance to find health orbs. I could see it being a possible modifier on items, although I doubt it will be too powerful because we wouldn't want health and mana orbs dropping all over the place.

I'm just curious how long the final slow time spell will last and whether it will effect bosses or not. I can just imagine a party of wizards on a mob:

    *slow time*
    *run back, shoots missiles*
    *another wizard casts slow time*
    etc!

Any one else notice how overpowered death proof is?
So lets say an enemy gets a lucky crit on you and actually takes you out but you have death proof so you dont die and you just leach all your hp back or w\e and then he kills you again later but after the 300 seconds (which since theres 15 skill points for it i assume will lessen) and bam ur not dead still and come back with 30% which im assuming comes back with the speed of a rejuv potion *instant* seems like it might be overpowered?

Well, 300 seconds alone is 5 minutes which is quite a bit of time when you're in the middle of a battle. They've mentioned a nerfed/non-existent town portal system so it's not like you'll jump back with 30% health and just escape to town. There is no leech life, as they've stated, so it will more likely be a matter of, "omg where is a health globe!!" when you resurrect with 30% hitpoints in the middle of a mob. Also skills could increase the amount healed as opposed to the time it takes for the skill cooldown. Assuming it is something like 5% per level starting at 30% with 15 levels (30 + (14*5) = 100%) all the skill does is effectively double the barbarians life. Of course if they labelled it "Increases the Barbarians maximum hitpoints" it wouldn't seem so controversial, lol. Numbers definitely aren't finally either and I have faith that the designers for Diablo 3 at least vaugely understand what they're doing and won't make a skill that returns 100% of your health with a cooldown of 5 seconds.

I just want to put a striking run in it and watch myself explode back into existence.

This is true for a lot of games but games which are scaled at Unreal 3 technology definitely requires c/c++.

No, it just happens that the industry is geared towards C++. This is somewhat arbitrary however, there are other languages which are available.
