Diablo (even the first and second ones) copied stuff from others. From monsters, to certain aspects of the game, to specific rules of the game. Same way that other games copied from Diablo after the success (hell, some even tried to be exactly like it).
Its not about not copying something, its about "adopting" something that suits the game and improves the gaming experience.

I dont like the idea of full respecs, at least not without it being limited to a degree, but i would certainly want to get back a talent point that i might have missclicked sometime. Even change a spec that i did on my first char that ended up being useless or deleted. Its a fine line and we'll have to wait till we have more to talk about before we judge.

    For now i'm neutral.

As for miss clicks I think a simple system where you have like a short time period to undo what you just did but not enough time to test out the build.

fully agree with that. I dont see a reason why hide gear/build from anyone. Everyone will find out eventually.

not if there is no inspect or armory page

Ya, but dont you think people that actually think out a build should be rewarded in some way. If you make respec easy then as soon as someone comes out with the new 'it' build, it will take 1 second for people to hit the respec button and thats that. They need respec to take at least as long to earn in D3 as it took to build up a new character in D2.

Thats pretty much what I was trying to get at.

When I played D2 my entire focus was on pvp. Thats what I loved the most about the game especially in patch 1.09... I cannot speak much for 1.10 because I quit playing after the first season. My hybrid asn was my main character that I put all my dedication into. Sure I played lots of other chars with different builds but my main focus was my hybrid asn. The reason this fits into respecs is because I would create new versions of my asn ever few months. Nothing huge just tweaks to make it as pefect as I could. If I noticed something I could change about my build and items I would right it down on a list of changes for the next version of my char. After I had a decent size list I would create a new char and implement my changes and rinse and repeat a few months later. These little tweaks im sure did not make a huge difference but for me it was more of a mental advantage knowing that I am just a little bit better than before and it would improve my pvp performance. This is one thing, other than playing skill that helped seperate myself from other less dedicated players. I am sure lots of other hardcore players out there did something similar to this. Anyway as long as leveling in D3 is not a long and rigerous process like it is in WoW then I will still be all for removing respecs.

I am not hating on WoW at all. I played both D2 and WoW embarrisingly hardcore. They are both two different games and that they should and will stay. Small changes like these make a big difference to me. WoW is a much larger game with a huge fan base but the hardcore WoW players are not anymore hardcore then the Diablo players. Diablo is a fast paced action RPG and WoW is a MMO. I think the main reasons they made changes in WoW like respecs is to satisfy there huge casual player fan base. O yea and leveling in WoW makes me wanna punch a baby in the face.

Wow, I never thought one of the complaints would be that "others might see my uber top secret equipment formula". Give me a break.

It's not a complaint really... just a suggestion.

As for the inspecting other players gear in game. I wish this was not an option but I don't really care all that much as it was always there in D2 with maphack.

But yes I do wanna keep my uber builds super secret lol...

The armory was an awesome idea to promote learning and comparison and competition even in the WoW World.

However, I highly doubt blizzard can implement such a system in Diablo III because it takes alot of maintenance and resources to keep the database updated.
Also keep in mind that you can seriously spam characters and get onto B.net. Having B.Net keep a track of all those little details and character changes requires some moolah and memory and storage space.

WoW gets it because it's being funded by a monthly income. Diablo however won't be ...so no need to fear.

Cool that eased my thoughts a little... as long as they add a option to either hide or show your account IDK.

I guess your kinda right. Respeccing in WoW works because it takes forever to level. I guess it all depends on how fast leveling is in D3. Also if they do keep it which im sure they will I hope the cost of respeccing is large.

Dont forget bots. Plus the fact that not as many people play anymore. They really should increase the player limit.

I really hope blizzard does not implement a web based Diablo 3 armory. They did this with WoW and I thought it was really stupid. http://www.wowarmory.com/

Seriously I do not want people to log on to a website type my name in and see what gear and build I am using. Everyone starts to copy off eachother and sooner or later everyone will be running around with the same builds and item sets.

If they do put a system in like this please add an option to hide your armory page from the public.

I think they should remove the respec system. Sure it may sound like a cool feature but in my opinion a lot of the fun of d2 was coming up with new build theorys and trying them out. Sometimes you have success and other times complete failure... it's a learning process. Also there will be no pointing in having multiple characters of the same class with different builds. With the respec system all you will have to do is get different gears sets and respec when you want to try a new playstyle. lame

    Pros
    • Saves you time
    • Keeps your from screwing up a char
    Cons
    • Reduces replay value
    • Cookie cutter builds
