We've changed the structure of some of the forums here at DiabloFans.com! The idea is to make it easier to get to the information and forum you're looking for.

We've moved several topics that were previously spread out and in unpopular forums into the new
Off-Topic Forum. We've also added prefixes to that forum which allow you to, when making a new thread, select a prefix (Art, Movies, TV, music, Blizzard, etc.). Using prefixes will also allow you to fine tune your searches.

We've also consolidated the Diablo 3 forum and made sub-forums for each of the new Diablo 3 Classes! We hope you enjoy these changes and find the site easier to navigate as we strive to bring you the best experience possible here at the #1 source for Diablo information on the web! If you have any suggestions, please let us know.

Thanks to Angel_of_Wrath for original thread and the following highlight!
Belial has been confirmed in a recent IGN article!

So could Belial, like some have guessed, been posing as Tyrael to destroy the Worldstone?

    Also a 5th class tidbit:
IGN: Have you confirmed how many unrevealed classes there are, to round out the entire party?

    Jay Wilson: There's one more.

IGN: You did mention that it's being revealed next year, and that it's someone from the previous games?

Jay Wilson: I did say that. I probably shouldn't have said that, because we're not sure that's going to be the case. It's just logical, that's what we tend to do. But it may or may not. I'm not gonna answer it, anyway? [laughs]
So that's that! One more class to drool over and then lots more questions about Belial and the possibility of him posing as Tyreal! I'm very curious how they'll work that one into D3, sometimes they're subtle hints to things like this, but in this case we'll have to see what the brilliant minds have in store for us!

  • published the article Item-customizing in D3?
For those of you who monitor our Diablo 3 Dev Tracker this will come as no extra surprise to you, but if you've been slacking - Well..I'm here to update you anyway :D

Someone asked the question this morning about item customization and how it will be handled in D3, although Bashiok doesn't give us anything too solid he does confirm that sockets will still be used, and that runewords will not, but runes will be part of the skill tree and they are getting away from those as inserts, he also hints that there will be more coming, but we don't know what yet.

    Check it out:
    Original Post/Question:
Will there be more ways to customize your items than in previous games, or(this might be a bad question)will the players be able to customize items at all in D3?
    If so, in which ways?

    Replies from Bashiok:

Thus far we've shown that items do have sockets, and gems can be placed in them. We're not continuing runewords, and the term 'rune' is now associated with the rune/skill system. What other options may be available, we're not telling. :)

We haven't released any information on our site, but it was possible to collect socketed items as well as gems in the BlizzCon demo, so any news site or fan site that attended MAY have included that as information. I don't remember any specifically reporting on it off the top of my head.

The gem stats at this point are more or less just the basics yanked from Diablo II to get the system running and have something to play around with.

We've really had great success so far on our Wiki! Thank you to everyone who has been involved and has posted something useful! The Diablo 3 Section of the Wiki is full of new delicious information, the total article count for the Wiki is over 630 as of this morning. If you haven't seen it yet be sure and check it out.
We've taken the liberty of breaking down the three new classes, Barbarian, Witch Doctor, and Wizard, in a guide to display some of the currently known information available on them, including available skills, origin information, and newly released graphics. Thanks again to our dedicated users for posting this information! This will probably be info that many of you have already seen, but it will also get you poking around the Wiki a bit, so here it is:

    New Classes for Diablo 3:

    Barbarian

When Diablo III was announced in Paris on June 28, 2008, it was the Barbarian that starred in the new gameplay demonstration. Showing that the class would still specialize in brute force, the speaker played a video of the Barbarian, dual-wielding weapons and buried in heavy armor, grinding its way through dozens of enemies at a time in the bowels of a dungeon.
Unlike in the previous game, where the Barbarian was a strictly male character, players will be able to choose its sex in the upcoming game. Beyond that, though, not much is known about how similar or different the Barbarian of Diablo III will be than its predecessor.

    Witch Doctor

The Witch Doctor seems loosely based on the real-world Voodoo practitioners. The males are depicted as frail old men having a hunched back and always shaking their head due to their physical weakness.
However, they possess great spiritual and manipulative powers as seen in the gameplay video. They can be seen easily controlling the minds of their enemies, raising the dead without the use of corpses and lobbing alchemical projectiles at unwary victims.
The female Witch Doctor seems much younger, capable of walking without a hunch. It may be noted that both the male and female Witch Doctors have a distinctly purple color-scheme in their equipment. Although this may be just to show them off during the gameplay video.
The male Witch Doctor is also the first shown character showing the new elemental damage type, Arcane. In keeping with his purple color-scheme, he is shown holding a sword imbued with Arcane damage glowing in a purplish glow.
It is also notable that both of them have been shown wearing stereotypical Voodoo masks. It is unknown whether normal helms look like that when equipped on them or if they are class-specific items.

    The Wizard
Only the female Wizard's backstory has been revealed until now. She has her origins in the Island nation of Xiansai confirming that Xiansai is indeed an Asian civilization by her striking Asian features. The male Wizard's concept art depicts him as wearing some sort of middle-eastern desert attire, which may suggest that he has originated from the sands of Aranoch, the ancestral home of both of his predecessors and the great Vizjerei mage clan.
The female Wizard has been depicted as an uncouth and rebellious figure, always wanting to learn more, be it in ways best left to those that are considered nefarious. She is headstrong and will go to any means to get what she wants. But she does not speak unknowingly. She knows that her innate powers can decimate the opposition, even providing a tough challenge to the Vizjerei Premier, Valthek, who found her in the Ancient Repositories beneath the Yshari Sanctum, the ancient and arcane library of the Mage Clans. She delved deeper into the arcane ways, wielding powers that were not supposed to be wielded, like Arcane magics and Temporal distortion along with the mage favorites of Ice and Lightning with equal ease.

  • published the article Dev Tracker Notes of Merit
As many of you know we recently launched our Diablo 3 Dev Tracker; which is basically a summary of any and all development posts on the official forums for the game. We even have articles, questions, and comments originally posted by other people that receive a response from Bashiok, or other VIPs.

Just to get you caught up on some important D3 info and posts in case you haven't been watching we've got the following highlights:

    1. Bashiok replies to a post about possible gold sinks in Diablo 3; a few memorable notes:

"We're attempting to build a more stable economy in Diablo III, and just like Diablo II did, we will have ways to draw money out of players. If that means there will be big ticket items or not, I don't know, could be. If we want to throw out gold as much as Diablo II did we'll definitely need some better places to spend it if we want gold to be worth anything.

So it looks like we'll possibly see some enhancements to vendors, big ticket items, and other ways to "relieve" us from our gold piles! He goes on to say:

"To address the OP, we don't like the idea of binding items just because Diablo is a trading game. To take away that ease of trade but add an asterisk behind it stating "Unless you pay a lot of money", it'll just make it feel... I don't know... kind of crappy. There are better ways to go about keeping a stable economy, and whenever possible they should be on things the player finds helpful, useful, or at the very least "fun"

Some of the most promising words yet regarding the economy in D3, at least we know they will be focusing on it and taking what they learned in D2 to enhance how the market will work in D3. Great news :D You can read the entire post and conversation here: Money Sink Method.

    2. A fan noticed that in the D3 Gameplay trailer there is a TEAL Mana orb for the Barbarian, which was a different color than the blue used for Witchdoctors. This raises a pretty obvious question if they're pooling from a different source of power, and how it will work, Bashiok answers:

"Fury is Barbarian specific. It's the only class that uses Fury as a resource pool. At the announcement at WWI it was a sort of teal color in attempts to show it wasn't mana. We were working on other colors, but just weren't really happy with the other ones worked out for it at the time of the announcement, so teal it was. At BlizzCon though it had its swirly lava-esque look. That's gone now too though, Fury has changed a bit more and we'll be talking about that before too long."

So it looks like they just didn't have time to change it; wonder if they won't be going with some kind of off orange like some of the spell colorations in game for the Barbarian in D2? Who knows! You can read the official post in its entirety here: Teal orbs?

    3. Finally, we've come across a post from a user begging them to please stop releasing information - Although I think that would leave most of us with nothing to read/dream/cry/pray about, but to each his own! The conversation that ensues is pretty brutal, as you can imagine, at one point D3 is compared to a rotten sandwich at which point Bashiok finally chimes in:

"I was waiting for Diablo III to be compared to a rotten sandwich. Now I can die peacefully."

The rest of the post is a little more eventful, check it out at: No more info please
