    Diablo 3 - No potions

The only way I could even pass Andariel was by spamming potions. Not to mention every other boss. Everybody does it. With enough potions you can finish the entire game.

    So then I thought:

Can I finish diablo 2 without using any health potions?

And my friends it is a very challenging way to play. You can still use mana potions (and if in hardcore one rejuvenation potion slot).
Only using mana potions, you'll find yourself using spells as your primary attack, and your character will look awesome doing it.
Obviously, its a LOT easier with a ranged character, but if you really want a challenge, go melee (Duriel will kill you).

Give it a shot and tell me how it goes!

Thanks for the quick comments but could you explain your train of thought?
It's easy to say something won't work, but why?

You all know the four revealed classes and most of you believe the fifth is gonna be a ranged class.

Why does it have to be an archer?

3 out of the four revealed classes are average build and at least half of their strength is their ability to use magic. These three are also very fast and agile.

Why not a big fat guy who carries a cannon around? Or a rapid firing siege crossbow?

Skill trees: Cannon skills, crossbow skills and the passive and magic Amazon skill tree. Cannons are for slow firing, area of effect players whilst the crossbow is more of a rapid fire weapon. Obviously passive and magic is for general improvements like running speed and summon ally/set trap.

    What do you think?

NOTE: I give permission to whomever wants to use this, simply reference where you found it and my user name.

Edit: There's no reason that this class cannot use melee, you could always swing the cannon or fill it with gunpowder, making a short range blast whilst not consuming any ammunition. This could also be used to leap out of the way. The crossbow is purely ranged.

    Ok then, no vampires.

We all know that a summoning skill of the necromancer is the blood golem.
We also know that necromancers study their art in seclusion.
And we know that at least some lore will be added to Diablo 3.

A particular necromancer choses to delve deeper into studying blood than his peers, and learns how to steal life from other creatures. Lets say he goes out to defeat some demons and steals some of their life essence. By stealing their demonic essence he takes some of their skills (perhaps transforming into them - stronger versions as he gains more experience). But also he gains their strength and skill with weaponry (Combat skill tree). He is not half demon, he is human, but can tap into demonic powers (Spell Casting).

This character can invest in their demonic transformation, fighting skills or their spell casting abilities.

This is far from my original idea but i just want a life stealing swordsman. A Sanguine.

And i am aware that sanguine is an adjective, but i think it sounds great.

    EDIT: Sanguinei might be better

Those suave, elegant vampires are the ones i love. Seducing women, drinking expensive wine, eating luxorious foods, living in a large, dark castle/mansion atop a hill - my dream come true.

However, some so called vampires, such as the ones in '30 Days of Night' are just smart zombies.

A true vampire does not jump around in clear sight killing people, he's meant to be smooth and seductive, luring beautiful women to their demise.

What if, for example, the arcane character is able to charge up his spells, maybe by holding on the button? it would look cool, and it would give a new hint for the player to play in differents ways, according to the situation. Against someone u have a little more time u can charge it up at max and litterally make him explode (at higher mana cost of course), against fast mobs u simply throw it the way it is several times, like it was before, while u are able to move the way u want to dodge attacks. In my opinion it would be a nice thing, it would add a lot of variety to the spellcaster class.

As long as there will be one, of course :P

    What do u guys think?

I think thats a fantastic idea. You would really feel as if you were charging a spell, not just waiting for it to load like in World of Warcraft. Nice thinkin'

    http://battle.net/diablo2exp/items/sets/sets7.shtml#trangouls

If you take a look at this webpage Elfen, and scroll down to the 'Trang-Oul's Avatar' armor set (all the way down the bottom) you will see that once the set is completed, the necromancer will be able to transform into a vampire.

Im not saying play as a vampire, just a human very interested in both swordfighting and the vampiric arts.

EDIT: The vampire that the necromancer transforms into is one of those blood lord creatures who shoots meteors at you. So not my 'dream come true' vampire.
Also, i was checking through the polls and noticed a 'who here likes vampires?' one. You're into vampires. Imagine someone like Raphael from Soul Calibur fighting Diablo; his quick moves dodging the demon's attacks then going in for the perfect strike. Diablo has never had such an elegant and graceful character who can kill without mercy or regret. You seem like one whose feelings blizzard takes into consideration, so think about it.

    Thanks

    Oh my god!

    So many replies!

Well, better begin from the top.

To Elfen Lied, why not? As you said, they exist in the Diablo series, so why not have one of them change his mind, after all, if diablo kills off all the humans, what will he be left to feed on?

Thats a great idea nomaddjs, it could be a normal human simply using the skills of a vampire. Like a druid isnt actually a werewolf, hes just transforming into one.

Djinn_690 - wicked idea but no chance :P it would make things too difficult for grouping etc. However, he could simply be weaker in the daylight and stronger in the night.

Horny Goatman - smart idea, as i said above, he could not be a vampire, simply interested in the vampiric arts, and all the time stupying these arts have given him a pale vampire-like figure.

Kenzai - i was simply suggesting a happy medium between the paladins swordsmanship and the necromancers dark magic. I am aware that they are completely different.

Elfen Lied's final reply - i agree; diablo one and two have been fought by humans. I would prefer to play a vampire. However, as i have said above, i would be quite content with a human using vampiric abilities - perhaps the ability to shapeshift into a vampire.

And for those i left out, thank you for your replies!

I wanted to post this as a reply to the official character suggestions thread but it said that the thread was closed. This being the first time ive ever contributed to a thread, i had no idea what that meant so i made my own thread. So here goes:

Its logical to think that the 5 character classes will be:

    A fully melee class (barbarian)
A fully spellcasting class (some kind of mage i assume)
A character specialising in ranged combat (like the amazon)
A light spellcaster with summoning abilities (witch doctor)

And finally, the melee magic user.

In diablo 2, the paladin took this role. However, i dont believe they will redo any of the diablo 2 characters, besides the barbarian, in order to make the game different. This is because diablo 3 will not replace diablo 2, it will be a new gaming experience based on it.

    Heres my idea:

The Count (still thinking of a catchier name)

A vampiric swordsman, fast and light, only capable of wielding a one handed weapon (no shield). Much like the katar to the assassin in diablo 2, the rapier will be the counts weapon of choice.
He will be able to increase his swordsmanship with various skills such as evasion, or increase his knowledge of blood; learning life stealing skills, or perhaps making his enemies blood boil inside of them. He may wish to increase his skills in lycanthropy such as turning into a bat or summoning wolves (still thinking of a better third skill tree).

I think its perfect as i loved the necromancer and the paladin in diablo 2, but sometimes wished my necromancer was a bit stronger and not just a dark mage, and the paladin a little more fast and dangerous instead of a slow, armored fighter.

Please leave any suggestions or comments you would like to read if you were putting your idea out there, that includes constructive critisism, no matter how harsh, as long as its constructive.

As a final note, I doubt the necromancer will return in Diablo 3, and if anyone loves hearing his comments in Diablo 2 as much as i did ("oh, i was begining to enjoy the darkness" etc), this will be the guy who says those things.

Oh yeah, and of course you could make like a dominatrix as a female version of the count. She could use a whip maybe..

    Thank you for reading :)
