    While I would like to see things like the gloves/boots and maybe even belt, I don't really care about rings/ammys.

    And for the gems part, I like that they change the entire helm/sword/whatever.It's neat to have a blue sword or a green bone helm. However, I wish the colors would blend a bit if you had multiple gems instead of being covered by the first gem's color.

    I doubt it will result in previous work being scrapped/redone. The art director is still only one piece of the team working on the game's presentation.

    Rares never were better than uniques. Which cap is better than Shako(for casters) or which shield is better for a barbarian than Stormshield?

    I thought Shako and Stormshield didn't exist prior to 1.09...

    Besides, I'm not saying there weren't originally a few select uniques that were incredibly good and highly sought after(ex. SoJ) but generally top gear was rare. People used to spend much of their trading time on rares and ended up with more varied equipment aside from those few uniques for certain builds.

    ...and about the rares being most powerful, I'd prefer having uniques powerful but make rares potentially stronger.

    Yeah, that's what I was trying to get at. I'd like to see uniques/sets still be plenty strong, but have high end rares be potentially better. Of course not all rares would be awesome, there would still be plenty that are only on par or slightly better then magical items.

    That's just how I remember it being prior to the LoD expansion pack. Sure there were some uniques people always ought after(SoJ, Bonesnap, etc), but the best stuff for most characters was still generally going to be really great rare items. That just added more replayability to the game I thought. The best stuff you got (rares) were truely unique.

    Having uniques being the best seems odd to me since everyone and their dog has one, thus making uniques the least unique equipment in the game. I just like knowing that my really awesome piece of equipment really is unique to my character, not something that the next player has 4 of in his stash.

    My ranting is, and has been for awhile now, going in pointless circles so I think I'll stop now. Thanks to everyone for responding, it's nice to see what other people's opinions are on these things.

    posted a message on More ideas for D2-> D3 improvements
    I know there are countless threads like this and none of these are really 'new' ideas but here goes nothin.

    -----1--Weapon masteries--I think I'd like to see weapon masteries for every class in D3 and each weapon class. I don't mean using skill points for them like the D2 barb but rather have them gain experience towards weapon levels when they hit things. It would be completely separate from normal experience and allow any class to get better with any weapon class.

    I've seen this system implemented in a variety of games and it always seems to work well. I just think it adds an extra layer of customization for your characters

    -----2--gold sinks-- I'd like to see more useful uses for gold beyond the beginning of the game. Perhaps being able to imbue items or add sockets with prices that are relevant to the item type. For example a hand axe could be imbued for what would seem like a lot at the beginning but otherwise wasn't expensive while ornate plate would be something you'd really have to save up for even towards the end of the hardest difficulty. Perhaps also having different qualities of imbuing available, like a low quality/cheaper imbue might add a few small modifiers resulting in an item slightly better than an average magical item while a better/much more expensive imbue would give you quite a few modifiers that were pretty good.

    Similar steps could be implemented for sockets as well. One socket in a cap would be cheap(say 100 gold) but 2 would be like 500, 3=2500, 4=12,500. For something like ornate plate it'd be ridiculously expensive obviously, and it'd of course cost even more to put sockets in rares and uniques(although still varying based on the type of item).

    I would also like to see some business aspects added to it. It'd be cool if you could buy and manage a shop in some of the towns, putting up your hard earned loot for sale, setting prices and bargains. If the merchants paid you less for items you found and you could make more money by selling them through your shop, it'd be kinda cool. Of course there would have to be some regular upkeep costs so you would end up losing money by keeping a shop that you didn't bother to restock or check in on. For single player, the items would just get sold to theoretical people while you're out adventuring while online it would have an option to strictly be open to other players only. This could also make gold more useful online, even if it doesn't replace direct trading.

    ------3--New town portals added-- I'd also like to see an alternative to town portals added. It'd be nice if there were scrolls that would send you to town instantaneously instead of opening a portal you then had to run through. This would make it easier to escape from a mob once surrounded. Of course there would have to be a drawback like being a one way ticket, so you'd have to backtrack to wherever to escaped from.

    -----4--expanded titles--I would like to see some character titles granted based on such feats. Maybe be able to select from a few prefix titles when you clear and act or difficulty and earn automatically applied suffixes by completing various tasks.

    So basically the Prefix would be something you can choose once you've completed enough of the game(difficulties, quests, perhaps even purchasing some titles) and can change whenever. These would be things similar to the Slayer/Champion/Patriarch titles from D2.

    The suffixes would be applied based on which represented your character the best. So if you identified a lot of stuff maybe it'd be like 'prefix' 'name' 'The Wise', etc. Although hopefully with less generic descriptions.

    -----5--stash and mule options-- I'd also like a huge stash. A communal stash open to all selected characters would be nice too. That way people wouldn't have to jump through so many hoops to mule items.

    -----6-- Rares and uniques-- I really hope that rares are potentially better than uniques like they were prior to the LoD expansion. Having uniques and runewords as the best stuff was one of the big things I hated about online play since everyone looks for set equipment to fit their cookie cutter characters. This isn't a big deal for me since I normaly play single player or lan, but I'd still prefer rares to be the best stuff again.

    Thoughts?

    And for everyone whos crying that the photoshop pics wont work in 3D:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S8Z0Bou47dM

    Hmm, Some of the sound changes in the video are ok but I think the color change really does take a lot away from the game. At least to me it seems as though it would be kinda hard to see what was what and just otherwise get boring after awhile. I think it really shows some of the potential problems Wilson was talking about.

    Thanks for posting though, it's an interesting video.

    hey no fair i was gonna post this link lol.

    The darker version looks shit loads better, but i still cant help but be annoyed at the pastel like background and the cartoony look of the enemies.:mad:

    Generally I don't really care for the photoshop versions since they would probably get boring after awhile and at times make it difficult to see enemies and other players. I'm plenty happy with the direction blizzard has gone.

    That being said, I do actually like how this photoshopped screenshot turned out:

    Hey everyone, I'm fairly new to diablofans so forgive me if I should be posting this elsewhere. Along the same lines as Jay Wilson talking about the art direction, he also responded to some of the fan photoshopped Diablo 3 pictures. Here's a link to the article if you're interested:

    Again, sorry if this is old news or posted in the wrong place.

    I figured this had to come eventually. I think I remember hearing elsewhere that they didn't plan to change it, but it's still nice to hear again. It was pretty unreasonable of people to get so uppity and complain so much about the graphics. Too many people seem to think that games are made specifically for them, rather than for millions of other people, including those that are actually making the game.

    Personally I liked the old graphics, but the new graphics are nice too. I'm more interested in other aspects of the game.

    What's this little debate even about? What's better? Because that's all in personal taste.

    Pretty much, it really is pointless bickering. I was just responding to comments in general about single player being useless, blah blah blah and it just kinda went on.

    As for the original topic, I am pleased to see them try to improve multiplayer and open it up to more people. I'm a bit skeptical of just how much online play will be improved though. As long as the emphasis on online play isn't taken too far leaving the single player neglected I'm sure I'll be plenty happy with the game.

    except, THIS ISN'T DIABLO 2 stoastter

    you don't know what diablo 3 will have, and I seriously doubt it will be full of dupes

    lag? roffle I play on wireless and have never lagged

    Fair enough, D3 will have different problems with multipilayer, not necessarily all the same ones as D2.

    As for lag, even with a good connection there still tends to be some lag, but nothing terrible, no black walls. D2 still runs much smoother offline as with most games. I would assume D3 will lag plenty online for people with low end set ups, regardless of Blizzards efforts.

    Either way, it doesn't really change the fact that if you don't want to play with other people, there isn't a reason to play online unless they include a bunch of online exclusive content(which never really made much sense to me).

    Don't get me wrong, I look forward to the game and hope they do a lot to make onine play great for people that are interested in it. I just prefer single player and lan and see those options as having considerable advantages over online.

    yes, so the modder community can transfer their black weapon and armored character that does +1000000000 damage....

    you know what you can do dumb dumb?

    Press the battle.net button

    make an account, like "diablonoob"

    log in

    make a character

    make a game, with a PASSWORD

    play as slow as you want

    YOU DON'T NEED A SINGLE PLAYER FUNCTION TO PLAY ALONE

    WHY DON'T YOU GET IT:mad:

    Single player doesn't have lag, your characters never expire, you don't have to go through as many menus just to start playing(not a big deal but still), and you don't need an internet connection. Also, if you get a program like ATMA then transferring items to and from mules is considerably easier, faster and safer.

    Unless you want to trade for duped/botted items, rush through the game and play with random idiots(granted thats only like half of the people on b.net) there's really no reason to play on closed b.net. If you want to play with specific people then you can play lan with almost no lag or a passworded game on open b.net and only have to put up with the lag while playing with them.

    Even if lag isn't a big deal now with better internet connections, I think MP, specifically online, is still garbage. I know plenty of people swear by it, but I just don't see it. Online just seems like a messed up version on offline play.

    Don't get me wrong, playing with people can be great when you play lan and can actually talk to the other person directly, know who they are and actually take your time doing all the quests. I just don't like playing with random people online where so many are just rushing, look at every decent loot drop as a competition, etc. Not to mention how much easier online is because of all the excessive items floating around after people bot or mf with super high level characters and then put into cirrculation.

    Personally diablo 2 is one of my favorite single player(and multi if you include lan) games but the online just seems terrible to me. If diablo 3 were to require an internet connection even for single player I wouldn't even consider buying it. Luckily I don't think there's much chance of that.

    Where to begin:

    - LAG FUCKING;
    - trading is complicated and broken due to economy;
    - everyone is rushing all day long;
    - everyone is using a cookie cutter build;
    - everyone is using twinked characters with uber gear already;
    - PK'ers in Hardcore;
    - loot system;
    - sharing items between characters is a huge pain via mules;
    - characters disappear if you don't play them long enough fucking gay.No, Multiplayer has huge motherfucking lag. Single player doesn't. Multiplayer only lets you play when you have good internet. Single player lets you play whenever you feel like it.

    Agreed 100%.

    I hope they don't go too far focusing on multiplayer to the point that it takes away from siolo. I played online for a bit but it really sucked in comparison to the single player. Now I only play solo and lan.
