Mar 29, 2009Lachdonan posted a message on Blizzard and Microsoft Xbox?If the games from Blizz are both console and PC then I will of course stick with PC...I have one already, and I usually upgrade it for gaming anyway. No sense in buying something when I have something I like just as much to play games. However, if the games are console only(which I highly doubt will happen) then I will move on to some other type of PC game. I have nothing against consoles, I just don't see any sense in throwing away my money on something that will cause me to break up the limited amount of time I have to play video games between 2 systems just because games are console only.Posted in: News

Dec 11, 2008Lachdonan posted a message on Diablo III Website Animation UpdatesPosted in: NewsQuote from "scarcoke" »Great work!
So here's my thought after seeing this change:
It is quite obvious to all the Tyrael will play a very important role in the storyline of D3. But what if the Tyrael we all know so far (in terms of character and appearance) is not going to be the same with the one Blizzard will introduce in their new game?
A fellow fan posted some weeks ago a thread mentioning the idea that Tyrael will come back to D3 as some kind of possesed demon, losing his role as mentor and guide but becoming an entity of the same demonic character that he has been trying to fight for so many aeons.
So maybe Blizzard will once in a while update Tyraels appearance on the official website showing to us LIVE the slow tranformation that he is undergoing, in order to reach full potential in D3.
The first image Blizzard posted when they unveiled this site showed Tyrael the way we left him at the World Stone. Now, by changing the wings, obviously making them more mean, dark and aggresive (they actually look like those ghostly figures you could encounter in Kurast jungle and Bazaar...cant remember their name now) it looks like we are witnessing a complete remade of Tyrael right infront of our eyes.
By the time the tranformation is ready, D3 will be ready for launch!
I agree completely that this is showing a transformation from good to bad. But something that bothers me, especially since my memory is a bit off right now, did Blizz actually come out and say that the angel on the website is Tyrael? If someone could clarify that would be great.
For some odd reason I do not remember hearing that it was officially said to be Tyrael, it just looks like him. But then again there was another angel in D2, cant remember his name, the guy next to the last waypoint in Act 4. He kinda looks like Tyrael, except dead. So maybe the angel on the website is really Imperius and they are showing his transition to a fallen angel. Also you really cant see the angels chest on the website, and I remember reading a discussion about Imperius having some kind of special cross on his chest, so maybe Blizz does not want to reveal that its Imperius.
If anyone can clarify about Tyrael then I can get this stupid idea out of my head. I am just rambling now. -

I think this forum is way better than the B.nett forums.. this is much better and mature forum with bigger contents..
Anyway thx for the news.
Like everyone else here, we all want more answers to our questions. However, if Bashiok or anyone else from Blizz were to post outside the B.net forums, for example in these forums, then you would eventually get people who are not 'mature' flooding into these forums. Better they stay in the B.net forums. Plus Blizzcon is right around the corner. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

But yeah class specific items are good because they add more variety, and I do not think blizz will make every item in the game class specific, because that is not the Diablo way and it does not make sense to change it.

On a side note, were the Travincal Council Members humans that were turned, or mages of some sort? My mind is fuzzy since it has been years since I have played D2.

Blood_Fox's post really says alot of what I think as well, especially dealing with this pic. I agree I love the medieval look more, but as for this type of scenery not being in diablo you are completely wrong. Act 2 in D2, this is exactly what I would picture the palace to look like. Oh and just because you did not see something in Diablo/D2 does not mean it can never ever be there at some other point. As long as the story backs up the scenery and blizz doesnt give up pink elephants, its all good to me.

In D2 a large % of the player base just ended up with the same stats anyway, so they made it easier for everyone to just do it for you, plus why would a barb put stat points into a stat that would get him more mana rather than getting more strength or life. It is just silly and makes alot of sense to just do it for us.

I still think you are wrong on this point. For one thing, I believe people will no longer have to go from room to room saying who wants to buy this item. There will most likely be some sort of trade system that allows people to show off what they want to trade for long periods of time without hindering their game play time. When you are able to do this, then you are able to sell items for more than what a vendor would give you because eventually there will be a demand for them.
Diablo is all about characters and items. You have a character that you want to level fast? Twink him/her out because you already have a high level character that can farm you enough gold fast to make a godly twink. At this point the amount you pay for the item is not as big a deal, you want to get the best items for that level as fast as you can to help you level up as fast as you can.
Low level items will sell for a great deal more than a vendor would give for them compared to a high level item. High level items will only be bought if people have an excess amount of cash or if they trade that item for another item. Plus they are alot more rare.
Not only that but you will see some amazing items for sale. Why? Because there are always people who will find really good items more than 1 time, and since they have it already they will trade it, or they will find a good item that their class can not use, they can either save it for an alt or trade it for a good item that they want for their high level character.
Yes the game needs money sinks, and the more the better things will be, but I also think a money sink that allows people to help their alts out it a good money sink.
I think I have rambled on long enough with this one so I will just stop right here.

I agree Merc just sounds so much better, but why not just call them 'Helpers"? From what you have said here the term Helper can be used in the exact same sense as Merc. Oh sure Merc sounds better when you say it, but the NPC does the same exact thing no matter what.
As for a follower, the follow you along just as a merc did. In a sense you pay the merc to kill for you, and with a follow they kill for you because they want to follow you, you dont need to pay them to kill for you.
They are just names, sure if I had the choice of what I would want to call the NPC then I would choose Merc because is just sounds so much better. We do not seem to have that choice but it does not bother me because the NPC does the same exact thing, and people will probably just call them mercs in game anyway.

But lets say your idea does go through and people really like it and use it. There is going to be a massive amount of items on this auction house, Diablo is all about the items, and with so many items to look at I do not think a timer of less than an hour would be useful to anyone and unfair to most. A short time would force people to have to camp the AH and not play the game for any item they are really interested in buying.
A long timer would not help either because since the game is being played on battle net there needs to be enough space to store all of these items for a long period of time (though we do not know what kind of server upgrades there will be). In WoW an auction house works great because each individual server can handle the load. On battle net you tend not to have the player base split between a large number of servers.
Do not get me wrong I wish they could implement a WoW like auction house, but I just dont see how they can for D3. I see a WoW like mail system for sending items to people, the only thing I can't think of is how is Blizz going to let people put items up for trade for long periods of time as well as let people look at all the items others have for sale on the server. Some sort of WoW armory page where people can search for items that people have designated as for trade? I dont even like that idea, a trade system that is not in game would suck.
Who knows maybe blizz will surprise us with an in game auction close to WoW.
Edit:
I could see them creating an instance server that is just used for trade. You walk through a door or portal in tower to the instance which would be a trade server. There is only a great hall with auction houses that you can put your items up for sale and then go back to the other server to play the game. And if your item sells then you money gets sent to you through the mail system. I don't know, it could happen

What exactly are you talking about? It seems to me like you left out the entire first half of your thought. Maybe there would be more discussion if people knew what was being asked?
