    Quote from "Doppelganger" »
Nah, not scaling, i think thats a horrible thing. What i do like to see are things that are unique to sets. What i mean by this is things similar to how you could make runewords out of plain items and how you could craft them, how you could up rare a,d unique items and how they could be ethereal. I'm thinking in the line of making sets more personal, as in, cubing which bestow certain magical qualities to set items. For example, the angelics set gives you a huge amount of ar, thats about the only good thing it has, thus with some ingredients you could "unlock" certain high level qualities, eventually making the entire set viable as end gear.

I do not like this idea because it is essentially the runeword system. The runeword system, and your idea above, puts more emphasis on the items used to boost the power of the set pieces rather than having the set pieces themselves being good. If you need to keep "enchanting"(lets just call it that for now) an item over and over as you level up, then the purpose of the game becomes more about the ingredients to enchant stuff rather than about the item itself.

For me it makes it less enjoyable knowing that I find this item and then have to go around getting all these ingredients together just bring it up to a certain level where it will be worthwhile to use. Atleast with scaling set items only it would not render them useless at any time. Scaling uniques/rares is a bit too much though and there should be a wide variety of those at all levels. Sets in my mind should function differently from any other type of quality item.

Sets that scale with your level is a good idea. Each piece by itself should be a little bit better than magic items, but not as good as a rares/uniques of that item level. The drop rate should be less than magic items but better than rares/uniques. The real power of sets should be the bonuses you get when you collect more than 1 set piece. This will make it so that having set pieces early on won't be too overpowering, but will not be useless late game either. Scaling with level is a good idea for sets.

posted a message on Bashiok on "Keys" in Diablo 3
    Quote from "mockery" »

So what do you think? Would you rather have random keys work in all chests, or do you like the more specific keys only working with certain things? Personally, I prefer the more specific ones because it adds an extra element of challenge. I like having to hunt for an item, battling my way through hordes of enemies. Makes it all the more satisfying when I finally get it!

I do not like the random keys work for all chests idea, because a majority of the time the loot is worthless anyway. I do however like the idea of a specific key for a specific chest but I would like to add a bit of a change or addition to that idea. If anyone ever played Mythos, yes Mythos before it died, I liked the idea that there was always a special dungeon chest at the end of the dungeon and there was 1 mob in that dungeon that dropped the key to open that chest.

Now the dungeon itself could be 7 or 8 levels deep and the key to the chest on the very last level was dropped by a mob on any level. So basically if you kill every mob on every level you will get the key. It sounds like more of a grind but it is optional to get the key to open the chest. And of course since the key is more special than random keys for random chests it would have a better loot table.

Maybe Blizz can twist this idea to their liking, but its much better than running around looking for a key anywhere in the world of santuary just because you came across a chest that is super rare spawn.

I'm not too big on the Radeon graphics cards, I tend to find that Nvidia graphics cards perform alot better with Blizzard games. I guess I haven't had much luck with Radeon, plus I don't know too much about the X1600 series. I would look into an upgrade(preferably 256MB Nvidia card). You got alot of RAM and your processor is fine. I am not a Mac person so I have no idea which graphics cards tend to perform better on Macs.

The only form of transport I'm interested in is horseback riding. I think it would be sweet if you could purchase a VERY costly horse and equip it with horse armor. By the end, you're fully upgraded horse would have the appearance of a fully armored horse from hell (or heaven, for that matter!).

Yes having a mount like in WoW is cool, it adds another element to the game and I would not mind it. But the difference between WoW and Diablo3 transportation is that in WoW it is need because the world is so vast and you can travel anywhere without loading screens. Blizz already said that the D3 world is not going to be a vast world like WoW. It is going to be similar to D2, so you will have loading screens between acts.

In order to get from 1 act to the next you will have to fight monsters every step of the way so there will be no use of mounting up onto a horse only to go 2 steps before you have to get off and fight more monsters. Mounts just dont play a part in this type of game style.

And if anyone mentions something about being able to fight while mounted...well thats just silly, who ever saw a barbarian on a horse doing a whirlwind attack?

My guess is that waypoints will only be used to to go from town to town. All the other waypoints that you had in the dungeons and other areas in D2 will now be checkpoints in D3. Town Portals will be of limited use and quite possibly on a kind of timer like hearthstones are in WoW. There will most likely be transportation between Acts like in D2, cause you obviously dont get the waypoint first. This is all the transportation will be imo.

Purely conjecture on my part, but I could see a Starcraft MMO before a Diablo one.

Yeah I agree, plus with WoW already being set in a medieval past type of environment, I doubt they would make another MMO that has a somewhat same feel of the environment to play in. Starcraft environment being space/futuristic would be something new and refreshing after playing WoW. Or it could be a completely new franchise that we dont know about.

If Blizz balances gold drops alot better than the horrific drops of gold in D2, then there will be less need for gold money sinks. The reason you would need gold money sinks is if gold drops are like D2 gold drops (really abundant). Money sinks to me are quick fixes to a bad idea/bad implementation. If Blizz fixes the bad idea then there will be less need for a large number of money sinks to keep people entertained with getting rid of gold rather than playing the game.

Gold should really be used for 3 things. Repairing items, buying items from a vendor or from players, and then buying luxury items. By luxury items I mean items that wont help you kill/survive against monsters like extra bags, extra bank slots, personalizing items with a characters name. If you balance the gold drops then you dont need 10 or 20 different types of gold sinks to throw your extra gold into. Gold should be for the essentials, and if you happen to have leftovers then you can get a luxury item.

Note: Items from a vendor would obviously be weapons and armor but would also include crafting materials and such.

posted a message on First Character Pick in D3
As of right now I will probably go with wizard with a Barb very close 2nd, but I really want to see what the other 2 classes are going to be. WD will probably be the last character I play, I am not a huge fan of minions/pets. Plus the WD didn't really jump out at me when I first saw it in the gameplay. There is still alot to be revealed about the WD though so maybe I will change my opinion at some point.

Something that struck me as new was that there were no damage numbers popping up over the characters heads as they attacked guys. Looks like Blizz added an option to turn that stuff off. Well atleast it is new to me because I can't remember not seeing it in other vids.

    Sorceress ? Halle Berry
    Assassin ? Winona Ryder
    Amazon ? Tea Lioni
    Barbarian ? Brock Lesnar
    Paladin ? Don Cheadle
    Necromancer ? Jason Isaacs
    Druid ? Hugh Jackman
    Deckard ? Bernard Hill

If there was only 1, yes 1, movie then I would take all of these actors to fit the role, however that is not how Hollywood works if the story has alot of room for sequels. Usually the first one is really good and then they get progressively worse if you try to use a whole group of big time actors.

Look at X-men, a handful of top notch actors. The first movie was great, and the rest just sucked. Why? Because they couldn't pay the actors what they wanted and still have enough money left over to make anything else in the movie good. Which is why they are doing X-men Origins with only 1 big time actor in each.

However you do have the exceptions like LoTR, but those movies were significantly better and grossed more than usually Trilogies do.

I would choose Huge Jackman as a druid, Don Cheadle as the pally or Angelina Jolie for Amazon. Choose one of them and do the story from that one characters point of view and then have the rest, or just a couple of the other characters that show up randomly throughout the movie.

hahahah omg I rmember that...the sin sure aint OP anymore LOL

This is something that drove me insane when people talk about a casual wow player. Why does casual and easy always have to be assosiated together???? Hell if i could of been a casual in wow when i played and raided I would of been(I was to addicted tho lol)......casual gamers must really suck tho cuz my god even the hardest bosses in wow arent that hard by any means....the only hard thing about any raid was not getting idiots that died on important bosses like archy and c thun and actually learned there roles...that was seriously the only difficult part of the game lol...but I guess idiots make up the majority of most online games :P

I agree completely, when too many people (a) cant find the time to play a great game, (b) complain the game is too difficult because they do not want to learn how to get better at the game even though they play for long periods of time, then Blizz just decides to nerf things until these types of people can play the game. It hurts the game and the player base(small %) that actually take the time play the game and learn how to play it correctly.

I still wish raids were 40 man, I might still be playing. Atleast with that you could drag some of the idiots through the raid and still have difficult content, unlike it is becoming now.

"A freedom in the darkness", almost meaning to say, "god needs evil to exist, therefore it will always exist in the darkness, and it should be able to manifest itself"
Which it probably could not properly do with the destruction of the Worldstone at Mount Arreat.

Possibly this is why the heavens sent this fire ball??

This is the only thing I really agree with that could very well be true about the story line of D3. Its the only real connection you can make between the worldstone being destroyed, the meteor and the diagram. Other than that the diagram is a picture that looks like it would have been drawn out during the diablo time period and it fits well asthetically. (sp?)

Good thread to read through imo if you dont have much to do. :)
