It seems to me that the Paladin class is amongst the most most popular - so it is beyond me why the class is not returning... If there are game balance issues - surely this can be overcome without trashing the class completely?
In the final analysis, though - it is true that some people like playing 'dark' character - even having 'evil' plot options...
But I think most people prefer the side of 'light' - as traditionally depicted... Many of these people would love to play the Paladin class...
But if despite all this the Paladin class doesn't make it - there should be options to play on the side of 'light' - at least have the class choices I would think - perhaps including an 'Angelic' class?
More later - there's still plenty of time for us to have input in this process.

But if we are to have an alteranative fighter class - why not a Ranger class?
Only problem is that the Ranger is not necessarily heavy armoured...
Templar is too specific historically - ie: to real-world history...
Back in the the 80s there used to be a AD&D 'Cavalier' sub-class... Maybe an idea?
But still I think Paladin would have been more popular...
