posted a message on Revisiting an artistic direction. (/w questions)
Alrighty, for anyone coming to this game late - back in 2008 (or so) there was a pretty big uproar over blizzard's "kiddy/wow-like" approach to the art and environment in Diablo 3.

A quick search yielded this old petition site [with 64,277 signatures at the time of this posting]: http://www.petitiononline.com/d3art/petition.html ,Also! There was a link to an old thread in this forum dedicated to the issue: http://www.diablofans.com/topic/6111-graphics-discussion-new-art-style-proposal-to-blizzard/page__st__80

if you are unfamiliar with this issue please view these links, or the 3 pictures below... or one could easily familiarize themselves with a quick googling of "diablo 3 artistic direction"

The following links are comparison pictures (still working links lifted from petition website) of original artwork (screenshots) and peoples' modified versions - they are clearly labeled. [Before = pre fan edited]

This complaint as well as a whole host of others died slowly, with the defense that this was just an early, pre-gloss version of the game.

My question now goes out to those who are now familiar with the look and feel of the beta.

reflecting back on this old complaint, how satisfied are you? Does this argument still hold any water? - Do the graphics stray to far from the 'diablo' look, are they too similar to WOW, too bright, ect.

I am questioning these arguments' validity/legitimacy in the current state of diablo 3... (going off of D3 beta. act1)

    PS!

While forum searching, I came across this post by Internet. Would those who have played (or who have been studying the game!), please now address these whiny questions.

I was very dissapointed when I saw Diablo 3 trailer. Although It wasn't becoz of "lack of darkness" initially but now that people mention it I guess I can see it too :) The photoshoped screenies do look better than blizzards. But there are other problems with this game:

1st. I noticed it's same gameplay as Diablo2. I was a big fun of Diablo 2 but after WoW came out it completeley pwned Diablo2 in all aspects. Essentially what I saw is very much like Titian Qest. Sorry I just can't picture myself playing tiny little isometric monsters with "click - till - you - drop" gameplay. It worked in 1999. But not in 2010 IMO. I mean we have WoW with the whole world where you can kill random players or join up to do huge bosses raid progression etc.! There' just so much more stuff to do that clicking little people just seems sucky after you play it....

2nd. The Graphics are essentially zoomed out WoW. this engine was started in 2002 or so when they used it for WC3. WC3 IMO was mediocre game I didn't buy it. And Now blizzard uses this graphic engine for SC2 and unfortunately D3, which sucks. I was really expecting D3 franchise to be more realistic with armor reflections, but armor looks crappy like in WoW. I mean, I like WoW but graphic of WoW are crappy.

So I guess to some it up it's outdated grafic, outdated gameplay, just a big dissapointment, I was expecting truly next gen type of game that would stand out either in terms of gameplay or graphics but it looks like both are outdated, so this game is going to suck compared to WoW.

TL DR: To those knowledgeable, please answer a few echoing whiny questions from a year long since past. -2008

Another thing to add is what Verity said in this topic
The AHs around the world will operate in different currencies. The US will obviously use $ while many EU countries will likely use €. The Brits, as proud as they are, will likely use £. Chinese will use Yen and so on and so forth. So even more splits.

What a bloody mess for a 'video-game' company to manage. What a bloody mess in general.

-Someone ask them at blizzcon..not that it really matters - what will be done, will be done =/

Bashiok has said twice now, that they aren't willing to discuss "regions" quite yet (both were in regards to the RMAH, but it's pretty safe to assume that realm regions will be the same, else it will just create the very thing they want to eliminate... third party trading. If I can *play* with Americans, but can only access the Canadian RMAH, then what's stopping me from creating a website for trading within the North American region?)

That realms will be more or less the same as they were in D2? -> I could be mistaken, and in fact I probably am, but I thought that the Auction House in WOW was universal. That players could and would often unknowingly buy things from other players located on different servers.

Also - If you could play with Americans then your auction house would also probably be linked with them(?). It seems likely then, that NA would only be able to trade with NA, if this was the server --- and that other regions would not have any influence on our North American server. (this was my original thought).

[ IF Blizzard is not willing to discuss this yet, then I suppose this thread will only lead to sheer speculation... that is unless anyone has uncovered anything? ]

I have yet to see this question be addressed..

Does anyone have any news about realms in Diablo 3? I don't mean realms in the WOW sense; but rather, in their old school (US: EAST/West, Europe,Asia) pre-WOW form.

I am also a little worried that Blizzard will disconnect the "regions", similar to what they did with SC2 - where players from North America could not/cannot interact with players in Europe/Asia/ect. I realize this was is due to latency issues, but it seems that we may now be dealing with a 'new' blizzard and so I throw the question to you.

What of them? what form will they take? Have any facts, theories, wishes, or whims regarding realms that you wish to share?

And on a side note: facebook integration. Did blizz. learn their lesson from the SC2 crowd, or will they try [even harder] again to implement something like this in DiabloIII. It seems inevitable to me (that they will try), but please 'say it ain't so'.

posted a message on Cool downs and Potion using
With the newly implemented "health orbs" should blizzard make health potions have a cool down?

1.[pro cooldown] potions can grant the user 10k+ health.
The health orbs should help balance out potion using, so rapid fire-potion overdosing- shouldn't be needed.

2[cons] rapid fire potions using has always been in Diablo and personally, when I'm about to die i like to use half of whats on my belt- Plus potion-cool downs are WoWey.

What are your opinions? Any claims /w proof?

posted a message on Please, Blizzard, let there be a monthly fee.
    Quote from "Murderotica" »
I been lurcking around this forum for about a week and finally registered. I just wanted to add my thoughts in about this. Read before you flame please.

There are many reasons I would like there to be a monthly fee, or at least wouldn't mind it.

    1. Keep the kiddies out. I am tired of 14 year old punks ruining my gaming experience. With a monthly fee, that is payable by credit card not game card, it would get rid of a lot of immaturity and would result in a better game. The game is rated M for a reason. Go watch your bob the builder and leave the gaming to the adults, thanks.

    2. If blizzard plans to regularly update this game like wow, then I don't mind one bit paying for the content. It would give extra money to blizz for new enhancements and whatnot. We were all complaining about how d2 hardly ever got updated. Well, why should they when they have no reason incentive to. Added levels, bosses, items, bug fixes, and world events is way worth the cost to me.

There are many other reason however those are the main two.

So I read posts on various pages and it seems the main topic hasn't really shifted from these two points, so hopefully this comment wont be to outdated

1.) Keep the kids out, I'm sure this point has been made and reiterated many, many times during this threads life, but here you go- My Version.

X-box live requires a yearly-or monthly (depending on your subscription) payment. Halo, is rated M. When playing online you run into kids who are less than 17. Their parents buy the game, pay the subscription, and they play. Simple as that

To put the idea that subscriptions keep out youngsters to bed, all you have to do is look at WOW. I played the game for a little while, sure there are teenagers, but there are also younger siblings playing on accounts and of course minors with accounts of their own.

Stated in one plain sentence; Subscriptions and Game ratings do not and will not keep out youngsters to any reasonable extent.

2.) Updates are nice, I'd like some real WORLD events (wouldn't we all). But not at any extra cost. Blizzard updated d2 reasonably well until larger cash cows were created. They make plenty of money with advertising to upkeep -monthly updates- go back to Lod's release date and look at the number of players.. Look at the number of active members on this sight. Diablo2's community dwarfed this sights membership by much greater numbers.
Yet this sight has done reasonably well all things considered.

So- post all your reasoning, I'd be glad to rebut and debate with you about them

posted a message on why not synergize? websites
Why not combine these two website's forums?

    http://forums.diii.net/index.php
    http://www.diablofans.com/forums/

The merge would be mutually beneficial and also create a more coherent atmosphere. Due to the influx in members from such a fusion advertisers would pay more money -- increasing profits.

the mix would produce more ideas- and could potential rival Blizzard's official D3 forum ( that is, IF they don't fix their major problems fast).

Split the profit- hopefully a mod. will see this~ What do you *the community* think?
