Farmers are people who receive a salary for their work from the company that distributes the items. With D2 it's mostly bots so one item selling site can be governed by a single person who maintains an undetermined amount of bots who do the work. One such site can accumulate enough items to supply every player in the game and eliminate any need for anyone to ever work for their items (if demand was enough to accumulate enough money for new computers and CD keys).

If a company can make enough money to support its employees, then why can't 1 person make enough money to support themselves? And if that one person supports themselves, they aren't getting paid a salary by a company and therefore they are not a farmer?

Diablo III already has synergies, such as Mongrel + Locust Swarm.

In that definition I guess Amplify Damage was a synergy to Raise Skeleton. By synergies in this thread we are specifically talking about diablo 2 where one skill being trained passively enhances the damage/duration of another skill. I do like the Mongel + Locust Swarm combo, but I'm not sure how feasible it is to make combos like that for every class to make synergies (by my definition) unnecessary. Like the barbarian had no combos like that, from what I could tell.

There is a big fuzzy line between gamers and farmers. Is someone a farmer when they have sold 5 items? 6?

Uh, my point is this, show me a 99 year old man (level 99) whose mind has "filled up". They are certainly less likely to want to learn and mental sharpness decreases, but if he has become a master of carpentry (kind of like fire mastered sorceress) he could surely learn the basics of how to sew on a button (learn level 1 of a skill). Diablo doesn't take into account alzheimers or decreased mental sharpness of older people so I'm not taking that into account in my example either.

Beter skills to be not reorganised !

Do you ever UNLEARN something ... - i doubt so .
So keep - normal human way of developing characters.
Characters are not a robots to load and unload knowledge inside them - they are humans , and humans have not a natural way of unlearning skills. ( except forgetting - which is not really applicable in the case ).

So - keeping creating better characters from the scratch again is the best way keeping fun going and going in the years.
Else - battle net will have about 5000 players - each knowing all others telephone numbers, drinking beer in Friday afternoon :D

    - Best report on situation : - Me : Sonicpld

I don't agree with being able to respec on a whim, but I also don't agree with your arguments against being able to respec.

If you are to take the 'realism' argument, then how come every character has a clear-cut line in the sand on how much they can learn? The human brain doesn't behave in such a clear-cut manner. No person, ever, has hit their knowledge limit.

So if you want an explanation for this knowledge limit, you have to conclude that skills aren't just learned by their brains, it is some sort of magical limit. Just like mana is magical limit on how much spells can be cast, there is a limit on how many spells can be learned. It makes sense in the confines of normal rpg character building, not in the confines of earth and humans as you know them. Just please stop trying to bring "is it realistic" arguments into this, that doesn't matter at all if it is fun (which I believe is the intended effect of games). I'm not a huge fan of flight simulators, life simulators (The Sims), or any simulator but I am a fan of diablo (it's not a simulator).

They said synergies were added in a patch to fix errors in balance and that there is no reason to bring them back. So no, I don't think they will be back.

Then how are they going to solve the 'saving skills' issue? I hope I dont have to ride coattails to high level with all the sorceresses I make...

I agree with mahamoti, I don't really like respeccing for Diablo. But it was stated that it will be in the game, so it should be very limited (like one time) to keep character identity and careful character building as a big part of the game.

This has been discussed before, but here is a run down of the basic pro and con as I see it.

    Pro:
    1) Characters spend points in 'lower' skills, which keeps them effective early-mid-late games. Before synergies characters would save all their skill points for the good skills to maximize their characters potential at the end of the game. They would be complete garbage until about level 50.

    Con:
    1) Pushes characters into specialization, making for less varied attack styles and for sorceresses extremely effective against some monsters and extremely ineffective at some.

It is important for characters to have skills released to them later, those skills should be more effective. This gives people something to look forward to, and spurs them on. However, characters also need to have a reason to train those early skills. Wow's talent system kind of does this...but at the same time that system actually encourages more specialization and less build variation than diablo 2. I'm not too sure of the right solution, but I know in general I like synergies.

I liked someone idea that went something like...their are monsters that randomly spawn in a game, anywhere (almost) that are the only monsters that can drop a certain item. That would make it so people had to explore and fight things other than just the bosses.

making things like boss runs finite will only kill the replay value. some games are 1 time through, good story games (bioshock), but they have no reason to keep playing it.

    A druid without elemental skill?
Bring old classes back suck imo. Bring then back without old elementds and adding nothing new ?
    No imo.

Of course they would add something new. Such as...being able to actually command the creatures, use them for abilities... Summon 1 rhino and you can command him to charge a monster. Summon 3 rhinos (<<insert animal you like better) and you can use the ability stampede for wave damage. Summon 1 hawk and you can use the ability dive bomb, 2 hawks for distract ability (im envisioning aoe so that its actually useful). Summon a wolf and you can use claw (bleeding damage).

Those are just examples of course, but you can be alotted creature points where like 1 rhino = 3 creature points, 1 hawk = 1 creature point, etc... then you could mix and match depending on what kind of abilities you want/need. 3 rhinos and a hawk so you have stampede and dive bomb. 1 rhino, 1 wolf, 1 hawk to get charge, claw, dive bomb. Of course you could come up with further synergies between the animals to make it more interesting. If that still sounds like it will play like a druid let me know...but it sounds pretty damn fun to me.

So you will just spawn at like a graveyard at the beginning of that floor? Doesn't sound like much a difference to spawning in town and going through a WP. Except, what if monsters were already crowded around the checkpoint...would you spawn-die like 5 times and then it decides to bring you to the one before it? Or is the checkpoint under some sort of protection? Sounding kind of lame.

Also he says they want more seperation of town and 'out of town'. Does this imply no TPs and possibly less WPs? Or TPs have a long cooldown? Or...? Could be fun to not always have the choice to just TP out whenever you want.

Yeah, you are probably right on the healer part. It's either that or that are adding elves or some crap like that.

But, how can they not have GUNS!!!1! I wanted to snipe pplz asses from a mile away and ruin PVP!! WTF? I'm calling NRA...:P

You have to be crazy if you think healers will ever be in diablo. Also guns wouldn't be anymore OP than bows. And for someone saying they would rather do fireballs than shoot guns, i assume you would prefer fireballs to arrows, swords, etc. so whats the difference, make a sorc.

    1. I like it, grab and go.
    2. At least i'd feel like I'm doing something by having to click onto the next monster, just holding a mouse button makes me feel like a paperweight.
    3. I could see having the ability to melt things down into gold, silver, bronze...pieces. And of course the base metals you get from the items would be worth less than the actual item.
