Jul 13, 2008OathofChaos posted a message on Diablo III - More DetailsDon't forget that the drops are on a person to person basis... like a credit system (or, at least that what I thought).... so it's easier to bypass items that you don't want // need. That'll also fix the problem of people just sitting behind to clean up the scraps.... if you call that a problem.Posted in: News

If you have the Steam version, and the game crashes on you on startup, I found a solution. This happened to me several weeks ago, and I finally figured out what it was. When using certain mods, it can cause a corruption of data being saved to the Steam Cloud. That being said...
This fix will erase your saves
Here's how to fix your game:
Make sure that there are no appendices to your game (i.e. safemode=1 and other startup "fixes" [these are located by right-clicking on the Torchlight game in your Steam window, and clicking on "Properties", and then clicking on the "Set Launch Options" button])
Start Torchlight by double-clicking on the Torchlight line in your Steam Browser.
When the window comes up saying "Your local files are different than the ones saved on the Cloud, do you want to update the Cloud files to reflect this" DO NOT CLICK ANYTHING! We will come back to that.
Open up "My Computer"
Windows 7 // Vista:
-Double click on the "C:" drive, then "Users", then <Your computer name>. Click on the address bar at the top and add to the line "AppData", (ex. C:\users\OathofChaos\AppData\ )
-Double click on Local and Delete the folder "RunicGames"
-Go back to the Torchlight Window and click "Yes"
-Boom! Working Torchlight!
Windows XP
-To be honest, I'm not exactly sure where the Steam files are saved, but you can do a search for AppData, and navigate there. The rest of the instructions are the same.
How does it work?
Essentially, what we've done is started clean slate. All files that would have normally been saved to the Cloud have been erased, thus removing everything that could've been corrupted. Now, there can be some tweaking here. You could copy the RunicGames folder somewhere else (and re-name it), then one-by-one deleting each file until you can get it working (thus determining if one specific file is the source of the corruption), but this other way is simple, and effective.

Essentially, we perceive Time as a unit of measurement from two static points, just like we perceive inches as a unit of measurement from two distinguishable points.
That being said, the only possible "hint" we have at time travel is the existence of Tachyons, which are still not completely proven. These sub-atomic particles have "appeared" in several atomic collision experiments, and disappeared as quickly as they came. They see it as an "echo" from the future collision... but still haven't been able to totally prove // replicate that consistently.
Either way, that phenomena is still unexplainable (I personally think it's indicative of the Super String Theory, but that's just me).

I love to control characters in games, but I do not let it control me.
I have nostalgia about “the way it used to be”, but I’m not a snob to the newer games
I frequent forums to have discussions directly related to games I’m interested in, but I do not start flame wars, nor do I insult other people’s opinions.
I will spend a full day playing video games on occasion, but I have a full-time job that I’ve never been late to (directly related to video games).
I pay for my games, because I support the developers who spent time and money on them.
I enjoy Action RPGs, but I’ve also played and enjoyed RTS, FPS, MMO, and JRPGs.
I respect people online and help n00bs, as I was once a n00b, and someone has helped me.
I do not beg or whine in multiplayer games, as I strive to become the best on my own.
I love learning about upcoming games, but I also read topics in the news that I am concerned about.
I love relatively soon release dates, but I am willing to wait for a game to have ample enough development time, as I understand that (for the most part) more development time means a better game.
I have several favorite games and franchises, but I keep an open mind about other games and franchises, and their fans.
I love the community aspect of many multiplayer games, and I use full and complete sentences to get my point across.
I am in my mid-twenties, but I am not a fan of certain franchises aimed towards my age group (such as Grand Theft Auto).
I enjoy Mountain Dew and Pizza, but I have great eating habits, and a love for healthy foods
I have been known to order out on occasion, but I've also been complimented on my cooking of various formal dishes.
I take a shower once a day, wash my own clothes at regular intervals, and do my own dishes before they become a pile in the dishwasher.
I have a girlfriend who also plays games with me, but we also go for walks, watch movies, and enjoy just hanging out.
I enjoy the beauty of a naked woman, but I feel that women in video games should wear more clothes.
I love historically accurate games and movies with creative licensing, but I hate the fact that creative licensing usually places females in “plate thongs”.
I have an opinion about politics, religion, and the economy that's realistic, and I don't force others to listen to my opinions.
I am a video gamer, and I’m not alone.

That being said, Time exists parallel to Space, just like Length exists parallel to Plane (the second dimension). The Special Theory of Relativity, which touches on relative Time, exists within inertial frames of reference, meaning that the theory refers to time homogeneously as well as space homogeneously.

We had a "Science! Day" where we destroyed bottles of Diet Coke with Mentos (impacting them to cause them to rocket off 50+ yds), and Dry Ice + water in a water bottle. The pressure builds up in the water bottle because of the amount of CO2 and H that's released, that it explodes, splitting the bottle in half, as you see in the picture.

While that is true, you could't get flashy with Javascript.... like... a picture of the item complete with empty sockets, allowing you to choose a possible combination given the amount of sockets, complete with full animation.... and.... and.... Monkeys! Bwahaha.... erm... >.>
But a basic design would be good as a tool for the forums. My idea (which is better done in Flash) may not be a good idea because of the loading necessary, which could impact gameplay, especially on older computers. I'm down for giving it a go though. I can brush up on my AS3 =D.

AJAX I hear is clean, but load times can be a pain, and that it's more difficult to integrate. Unfortunately web-based programming is not my strong suit, so I'll leave it to you guys on that one.
