posted a message on Diablo III - More Details
I think there's a few reasons timers that make loot appear wouldn't be a good game mechanic.

Some people would just lag behind the party, waiting for all the loot to appear. They would join games and not really contribute. That's a pointless waste of a slot on the server you are playing on. Even worse, most of the team might just sit and wait for the timer after each big battle. That would ruin the pacing.

A ridiculous number of items would appear. If the new system has a decent number of items appearing for 1 person, most of which they'll pass up, then in an 8 player game, it would just be pretty insane.

I am sure they will do it right now and compensate both sides, just a little hard when you know waiting 8 years and there being a chance they will totally screw you over.

The flip side.. if you are a person who felt that random and abrupt PKing was pointless and relatively boring, and didn't really highlight any of the truly good aspects of the game, Diablo 2 already screwed you over. Lots of people don't even bother playing online because of the griefing, and companies are finally starting to recognize this.

I really hope that they put PK into the game, both as a game option, where specified games can have open pk, and as a mutual agreement duel option. It just totally blows my mind that anybody is against that concept, the only possible explanation for it is that they want to annoy the people that want nothing to do with it.

But when you declare hostility and then have to rush out and really kill the person out in the game, that person ALWAYS have the chance to get away. And that just adds extra flavour to the game.

A chance to get away, then have to leave the game and start over? That's.. pretty much the opposite of fun.

Look people the pvp with Diablo 2 is bad enough as it is now, blizzard has lowered their standards and is catering to all of you people who suck at the game.

What you fundamentally don't get is that people who don't want to engage in PK aren't even playing the same game as you. They aren't interested.

I think the main reason that PKers complain about the change is that they aren't interested in sporting play against other PKers, they really just get their fun from griefing. I'm sure they'll find a way to still be annoying, they shouldn't get all worked up over it.

posted a message on Diablo 3 Items and Inventory
I know it's not going to happen, but here's what I'd like to see.

Keep the basic inventory from Diablo 2, where items take up space depending on their size, but let you open up town portals and just throw items into town without leaving. Then you deal with them later in some kind of vault. You can't take items out from that vault unless you are in town.

Also, I would like to see tons and tons of vault space. I really don't get what the gameplay fun of having such limited space is. It just gets tons of people to create mule characters and holds up gameplay.

posted a message on Diablo III Producer Justifies Controversial Art Direction: Color Is Your Friend
I don't think the World of Warcraft comparisons are particularly apt. The gameplay video shows quite a bit of gore, some of it actually quite innovative, as far as gore can get innovative.

Given the bloody nature of the combat, it seems likely to me there will most likely be plenty of nasty locations.

It makes sense to make areas that contrast with that, so that the nasty places will actually have some gravitas to them. The same is true of monsters. The first monsters in Diablo 2 were actually somewhat comedic, from there it sort of goes through a gambit of mystical, brutal and then totally demonic.

posted a message on Blizzard Comments On The Classes In Diablo 3
I felt that was a major problem with Hellgate: London. There's only a couple of things that make the classes feel significantly different, and other then that, there's a massive amount of overlap.

As for wanting classes to make a comeback, I bet pretty much every class will make a spiritual comeback in some combination or another. To me it's pretty clear the Witchdoctor is a twist on the Necromancer, so I doubt we'll be seeing the Necromancer, as those two classes would be too similar. Unless they radically change the Necromancer that is..

posted a message on Diablo III console port "theoretically possible"
I don't really see why it's so hard to imagine a console D3. From a technical perspective, the 360 and the PS3 can definitely handle what we've seen in the gameplay video.

As for controls: put different skills on the 4 shoulder buttons and let the D-Pad switch between sets of skills. Left joystick moves, right joystick aims. You've still got 4 face buttons, select / start and the joystick-in buttons for things like the map, inventory, character sheet, zoom-toggle, etc. Getting potions out of the picture is particularly helpful for a console control scheme.

Some concession would probably have to be made for how aiming skills work, but.. really.. it's not that difficult to imagine it being pretty decent.

I'm really glad they are recognizing that PK is just simply annoying to most people. I don't mind it at all if it's a mutual thing, but if I just want to relax and bash some monsters, I don't really want to have to deal with somebody taking the game way too seriously looking to prove his eWorth.

Special PK ladders and such are totally fine with me. In fact, I really hope they have them, so that it will draw those sorts of players away from the rest of us. Griefers have successfully driven away many players from games, Blizzard would be smart to not let a repeat of that occur yet again.

The griefer excuse is that other players should toughen up and strike back, but.. you see.. to us.. it's just a game. It's not worth it, we'll just move on to something else.
