Jul 22, 2008Jordan_L posted a message on Bashiok Answers Gameplay Video ConcernsFor all the talk that's going on about there being a T rated Diablo 3. Well I believe it's true. Germany censors their games, recent examples would be Unreal Tournament 3 and Hellgate:London which both were released in Germany before the USA due to them being a special modified low count shipment. The gore in Diablo 3 will be taken out in the German versions. Then again the rules might only apply to games that use peer to peer combat that involve guns or gore, anything that involves violence and gore in peer to peer combat, Diablo 3 will have PvP so that would cause them to censor the gore out giving it a T rating.Posted in: News

Jul 21, 2008Jordan_L posted a message on Diablo III vs Hellgate: LondonThere is no Hellgate vs Diablo, Hellgate:London tried to be Diablo and failed. What I'm saying is, they tried to make Hellgate as similar to Diablo as they could without getting copyright fines most likely, so really this is a Generic Diablo vs Diablo were talking about here. Hellgate:London is really just a badly done Generic Diablo. :confused:Posted in: News

Jul 21, 2008Jordan_L posted a message on Blizzard: Why Corpses VanishI used to be crazy about Multiplayer, if the game wasn't about Multiplayer, I wouldn't buy it. Now that's changed, and I enjoy Single Player games more than Multiplayer now. Sometimes the online community is just garbage. I really hope they don't focus Diablo 3 to be online, I really don't. On Titan Quest / Titan Quest: Immortal Throne, I'd mainly do single player due to the fact I could go at my own pace, enjoy killing all the creatures without some player rushing to them all, and not have any players complete quests I haven't completed yet which if they did automatically made the quest completed on my side.Posted in: News
I'd then go on multiplayer casually just to showcase my gear, or mess around. Since Diablo 3 will " hopefully " offer some decent PvP, that's a reason why I'd go online mostly. The PvP brings the community online, so I hope Blizzard realizes that and makes it one of the key focuses instead of wiping it to the side like most companies do with their Hack N Slash game. But it sounds like Blizzard is incorporating the same Online system Titan Quest used in terms of hosting a server, and players being able to join at any time and pick up where they left off in their single player campaign. I also liked to go online for the increased difficulty, since every player that joined, popped up a message saying the difficulty has been adjusted, which added more creatures, hero level creatures, and loot. -

A good example of us paying attention though was the concern and thread about corpses not sticking around long enough. I read that thread, brought it up, and some discussion was happening on it. Later our lead tech artist Julian was reading through the replies, and got some ideas of how we may want to keep corpses on screen a little longer. Now we're playing around with some changes that shouldn't have a huge performance hit, while still keeping the corpses on screen for variable amounts of time. Hopefully it works out.
He must have read my comment in that thread he's talking about where I mentioned that Titan Quest / Titan Quest : Immortal Throne with it's advanced physics and graphics, was able to keep every dead creature on the ground, along with every item, with no slow down or performance hit for the most part, which is also in one large streamed world with no load times. But yeah, I'm glad to see they are reading our comments and actually taking it to Diablo. Atleast when Diablo 3 releases, we'll know part of it's glory was due to it's fans.

Jul 21, 2008Jordan_L posted a message on Diablo III vs Hellgate: LondonI always wondered why FSS divided the teams and split the focus amongst Hellgate and Mythos, when at the time, Hellgate should have had all of the attention, especially in the state it was in.Posted in: News

Jul 21, 2008Jordan_L posted a message on Diablo 3 Not An MMOFlagship started this whole Hack N Slash MMO " genre " in order to charge a monthly fee for their Hack N Slash Hellgate:London and never really lived up to it. I think the whole idea is quite stupid, and it proved disastrous for them. To the poster above, when you say the minimum cap is 6 do you mean when hosting a server ? I think Blizzard is going to take the route where players host the server, so the minimum would be at 1, and the cap would be at 8 if they make it that high.Posted in: News

Jul 21, 2008Jordan_L posted a message on Diablo III vs Hellgate: LondonTitan Quest / Titan Quest: Immortal Throne vs Diablo 3 would be a way better comparison. The graphics in TQ:IT look just as good if not better than whats in the gameplay video as far as physics and graphics go. Iron Lore did a great job with the classes and multi classing, they all have their place, with very well done unique looking skill trees. Blizzard already mentoined a couple of things their doing in regards of Titan Quest such as the Multiplayer and Sets. But yeah, I've never enjoyed a Hack N Slash for so long, or beaten a game on so many occassions, after months of playing ( and sitll currently playing ) , 9/10 worth every penny. But yeah I've noticed more comparison with Diablo 3 and Titan Quest than Hellgate and Diablo 3, even though the settings are completely different so you wouldn't think so. Titan Quest has it's dark dunegons, and popping colors outdoors, with a nice night/day cycle. Actually, from the limitless sets, weapons, armor, to creatures, water, moving foliage as you brush past it, it's all eye catching, especially in the expansion TQ:Immortal Throne that brings in the land Hades, which has some very nice effects and details as you progress through it. TQ:IT is just like Diablo:LoD in terms of what it added as well.Posted in: News

Jul 21, 2008Jordan_L posted a message on Diablo III vs Hellgate: LondonI still get a bad taste in my mouth when I think of those hideous boring repetitive dark bland Tilesets in Hellgate:London, A weak story that was obviously not put together and obviously the lack of work shows, The random map generator was garbage, it often created maps that were impossible to complete due to uncircuited connections, poor voice acting - along with 1 second cinematics all being the same at the end of each Act, tons of bugs, I mean the list just goes on and on, waste of money it was. It shows the game was badly rushed, although I doubt it would have gone much further if they took their time.Posted in: News

Well yeah, did you see what the dev's were wearing in the interview videos for Diablo 3 ? They were wearing WoW collar shirts along with caps, just like how Epic was wearing Gears of War shirts / Hats in their Unreal Tournament 3 Interviews and Credits, Look how UT3 turned out, it's a clone of Gay's of War in many ways in terms of artistic design. Hopefully this isn't the case with WoW and Diablo 3. This is Blizzard were talking here with Millions, Millions, Millions Millions, Millions, Millions Millions, Millions, Millions Millions, Millions, Millions Millions, Millions, Millions Millions, Millions, Millions Millions, Millions, Millions Millions, Millions, Millions Millions, Millions, Millions Millions, Millions, Millions Millions, Millions, Millions Millions, Millions, Millions Millions, Millions, Millions Millions, Millions, Millions Millions, Millions, Millions Millions, Millions, Millions Millions, Millions, Millions Millions, Millions, Millions Millions, Millions, Millions Millions, Millions, Millions Millions, Millions, Millions Millions, Millions, Millions Millions, Millions, Millions Millions, Millions, Millions Millions, Millions, Millions Millions, Millions, Millions Millions, Millions, Millions Millions, Millions, Millions Millions, Millions, Millions Millions, Millions, Millions Millions, Millions, Millions Millions, Millions, Millions of dollars to spend to make this game RIGHT, so I have no doubt this game will most likely turn out the way Blizzard wants it to. The only problem is the unnaounced views they have on PK/PvP. -

I can understand why a company like Flag Ship Studios known for their failure " Hellgate:London" needed to charge a subscription for " luxuries " to fund patches and new additions since they were a new company with little revenue along with one game release, but online server storage was still free with atleast three large multiplayer servers ran simultaneously along with numerous full fledged patches.

And minor things like those are worth paying monthly for ?
Those features should be absolutely free, I can't even believe those features are considered as luxuries.

Guess the Blizzard-Activision acquisition was a bad one to say the least.

And what makes Blizzard think it takes gluing WoW's art style and features to Diablo 3. I think the only reason Diablo 3 looks like WoW in certain aspects is because Blizzard has been saturated in WoW the past few years, so unless they hire a completely new team to work on Diablo 3, some aspects of Diablo 3 will look similar to WoW's art especially since the head director of WoW is a lead in Diablo 3's production. It's not very hard to create something original though. If what you say is true, then Blizzard basically believes people's brains are set to WoW and noting else. If I play Resident Evil for example, I Do Not want to see similar features and art style in Silent Hill. Two similar genres but enterirely different franchises.
If I was a hardcore WoW fan, loved it, played it 12 hours a day, and thought it was the best game. I'd still want an entirely different game from Blizzard that didn't have anything related to WoW in it. I think Diablo 3 shares similarities to WoW due to them being built on the same engine and Blizzard's last few years of exposure to WoW's features up until now.
They chose the art direction they wanted to use, they chose the graphics they did in order to run efficiently on the broadest range of PC's which has nothing to do with dumbed down graphics on a console. By the time Diablo 3 releases, there will probably be several graphical tweaks, upgrades, additions, art style tweaks and changes, and a highly customizable graphics menu. Blizzards focus is PC first, so this will be a PC port to consoles, so I don't think menu/GUI quality should be a problem..atleast I hope not.

You do realize that Blizzard's focus has been on WoW the past several years up unitl now; as a result, we will see similar innovative features used in WoW in Diablo 3. Blizzard threw out the old inventory system of Diablo 1 and 2. Hellgate London was criticized for it's horrible tetris style inventory system in which seems to be what your describing, unless there were automatic organization buttons to chose from in Diablo 1 and 2.
The majority of developers that made Diablo 1 and 2 are not working on Diablo 3, I believe a lot of the developers that worked on WoW are helping out with Diablo 3, so it's obvious the way Diablo 3 is turning out and I dont think it's neccesarily bad although I wish I saw more actual demons instead of frogs and blobs.
I think respec is great, I don't get why people think it's fun to mess up on skill points and as a result start a charcter over for " replayability ". There are around 4 classes and if you want to make a run through with each class on multiple difficulties, that's enough replayability for me, I don't need to worry about all the crap regarding skill point distribution.
Hopefully fan boys wont freak out and throw riots because there are respec which often happens.
I'm guessing by the time Diablo 3 releases the graphics will be enhanced or upgraded along with certain features to toggle on or off depending on the resorces your PC has. Diablo 3 is probably in an early build still, who knows. The environments might not look amazing in graphical detail, but the gore, physics, and player/creature animations are pretty good, which is probably more important considering it's a hack n slash. Hack n Slashes don't always have the most detailed environments, in fact, most Hack N Slashes have really bland environments, so Diablo 3 looks great when compared to others. Titan Quest did pretty good though as far as night/day cycle with detailed environments goes. Titan Quest had no randomization at all though except item drops.
Diablo 3 might not have graphically superior environments, but it has detail alright, plus the ability to interact with the environment is a first, for example, knocking a large stone slab off of a cliff and killing several hostiles.

On a side note: That would be great to see real time reflections off of armor.

Blizzard is basically adapting to what Titan Quest used for its multiplayer, every time a new player joined a server in Titan Quest, the difficulty automatically adjusted, only problem is that, even on the highest difficulty on top of the max of 6 players on the server at its highest adjusted difficulty, the game was a breeze when people fought together, the only time it was hard was when you went solo on a maxed out high level server.
I hope Blizzard really makes the game fun and challenging for groups that want to fight in packs together, not a cake walk like Titan Quest was, which made it very boring. I'd rather go on single player honestly, and enjoy killing everything myself rather than have some kid running around with his high level gear hacking everything away like he is some amazing force in the game but rather an annoyance.
On a side note: What ? The characters you create expire if you don't use them over a certain period of time ? That's not good at all, what if you take a long break then an expansion comes out for high level content and the character you have been saving for the expansion has been expired. So anyways, how long did you have in Diablo 2 without playing until your character/s were expired ?
