Besides, as you mentioned briefly, WoW does have upkeep costs to pvp....Consumables, food/drink, Repair. Even though they are small, they are gold sinks, and thats what would help diablo 3 keep the economy from super inflation.
Upkeep costs are fine. Buying consumables, repairing your equipment, etc. would help people do better in pvp. It would encourage people to farm gold.
Having fees to enter tournaments wouldn't encourage farming, it would force it.
They did in the gameplay video. However, I'm pretty sure I read or heard somewhere that the inventory system used there wasn't final, and that Blizzard still hadn't decided on what system to use.
Can't for the life of me remember where I saw this thogh.
I'm really surprised that people are against this idea. Those who want to have more of a roleplaying feel to their characters would be happy, and those who want to name their characters something stupid could of course still do it.

I just switched "cinematic" to "artwork" in the url and it worked like a charm.

How about PvP tournaments? Teams would have to pay to take part in them and the winner would get a prize of some sort.
The prize could be anything, really. Some special equipment, a silly title... whatever.

If the Reaper (or something similar) ends up being a class in Diablo 3, it will definitely be my first choice.

I'm not so optimistic though.
