posted a message on Characters/classes we want to see/be in Diablo 3
I dont think we'll see any of the classes from d2 in d3... we've already played them in d2!

There will be classes with similarities, but I dont think there will be any simple barbarians, assassins, druids, amazons, necros, sorcs, or paladins. It is likely that the game will start in a different, new, area of the world, full with fundamentally new heros.

I do not care if classes are untraditional in name or appearence. I would prefer that they are more original and creative, as long as they each has a specific, unique, role.

I dont think barbarians need to be forced away from using magic. Sure in typical nerdy dnd culture, they may be, but it's not too hard to find barbarians that use magic of some sort (in games and other media). Even in diablo 2 we have skills like warcry and beserk, with descriptions that describe animals, sprits and ancestors.

I dont think blizzard is going to use more than a handful of classes for the initiial release of d3, and I think that most if not all classes will be considered hybrids of some sort, having bigger, more complex skill trees compared to classes from d2.

Sc2 would need to be at least as good as sc:bw.

Can blizzard do it? I dont think so. Their last RTS (wc3:tft) was/is horrid.

Why do you think they tried to diversify the franchise by moving it to FPS with ghost? They've had no idea how to make sc2 for a decade now, and I think they still dont have one. No company has been able to make such a great game, with the perhaps hundreds of rts titles that have been released since.

Honestly, I dont know if i want to be disapointed by a sc2, and do you think blizzard will take that chance with one of the greatest titles ever? World of Starcraft is more likey, I think.

Though, they did release wc3:roc, so maybe it wont be too long before rts is completely dead with sc2.

Better chance to find an soj mfing than a high rune? What, with an isted out mfter, mh and a bot program? Now thats some advice for noobs, you are so gosu.

You have a shot at a good rune with your hell forge, and besides that, playing regularly in hell will get you a decent rune at least every 1 or 2 months. And all without being an obsessive botting, cheating maniac. Noobs and non obsesive players can get all the items desired without ever doing mf runs, and they often do.

The only people that gain more than 10% of their items from mf runs are botters, and obsesive mhing maniacs, period (ie cheaters). The rest of items are aquired randomly or through trade.

This is probably one reason that high level rune words were developed, to control inflation caused by cheaters. It's essentially impossible for the average disconnected player to put together a high level runeword without a large cheating culture (trading botted items for runes). I realize you and most of the people here are in that culture, no worries.

I really think that mf is over rated, mf mostly benifits botters and hardcore maniacs.

You can be successful in the game with minimal amounts of mf, and with that in mind, good character and playing skills are more important than mf.

You need to learn to make characters that can go through hell-mode, where youre likely to find runes, which can either be kept and used in words, or can be traded for items worth hundreds or thousands of hours of mf.

Noobs are going to be shut down in hellmode, items or not, so noobs dont need to worry about mf or about runes, and should focus on learning the game and getting hand outs.

If you are planning to play with buddies, I would suggest some melee and some range, with at least 1 barbarian and at least 1 paladin. Other than that a good rule is melee+ranged characters, for noobs. I personally find all melee to be the best thing, but then you need some decent items and some wits to pull it off.

Ultimately, I think the best pvm classes are: barbarian, paladin, amazon, able to handle every map on the game, and generally with a lower grade of items and time investment than other classes. Pvp on the other hand is mental and has little to do with class.

And then there is the hammerdin, if you want to both suck and do some RMT.

posted a message on Diablo 3 Graphics: Which would you prefer
I think the game will look like diablo 2 except at higher res, and with only slight style changes. Blizzard isnt going to make a game that is barely recognizeable in the screenshots. When you see a screenshot, you will know it's diablo 3, folks.

The other two diablo games used pre-rendered 3d models on low res textures. I dont know about the specifics of their models, but they might be able to use them in the game, straight up, they wont of course.

And there is no doubt that the game will be 3d, either. It essentially has to be 3d; in a game as huge as d3 will need to be, 2d would be approaching practical physical limits.

One benifit of 3d will be all the extra detail youll be able to see on a character, about equiped items and overall state. Another benifit is that there could be a lot of shared animations between different classes, such as leap attack, etc.

An enchanter doesnt directly move stuff, but enchants it to move. Kind of like the fairy god mother enchanting candlesticks and dressers to dance around and sing songs.

*Warlock/deamonmancer type character, can charm deamons and get them as pets, can also take on attributes of deamons.

*Nomad type character, physical strength and ability, some animal friends, some nature based skills or spells. More of a brute than a Ranger.

*Astrologer. hard to say. telescopes and vodoo.

*enchanter, specializes in items. Can move items at will like an mentalist, can also bestow powers into items, and take powers from items and put them to other uses.

*PIRATE! Pirates are in it for the gold. Pirates excel with swords, with muskets, and all forms of drunken combat. Not bad with boats, maps, or lost treasure, either. I guess this would be a half drunken theif that likes the sea.

*Inventor. Uses gadgets, contraptions, traps, and alchemy, to fight the forces of evil.

posted a message on What NEEDS to be different in d3
    My suggestions:
*Multiple endgames and ways to transverse the story.
*Encouraged multiplayer and fun multiplayer dynamics.
*More unlockable stuff and stuff that can be worked towards across multiple games.
*Game elements that help manage cheating and inflation.
    *More extensive and meaningful crafting.
*Ways to respec your character, maybe with increasing gold costs, like in WoW.
*Character starts out with several skill points to place, and maybe some attribute points to place. Initial character is more able than button/skill 1 for 5-10 levels.

I think what needs to be different is some of the way the story progresses. In diablo 1 and 2 you had a specific set of levels you always progressed through. In diablo 3, there should be some divergences and trees that can be navigated. One advantage this will have is with the end game; no longer will you need to continuously join the X Run, but you could join any series of runs depending on mood, any of which will have a particular effectiveness and entertainment value.

I always thought that diablo 2 didn’t start until hell mode. The game never got interesting until hell mode to me. What was interesting was that players had to actually play in particular ways, due to immunities and the deadliness of particular monsters. In earlier modes you could generally use the same play style (attack, attack, attack), regardless of monster. But in hell mode, you had a variety of play styles, changing depending on monsters, and there are even times when coop play is encouraged or required.

This sort of dynamic should be encouraged throughout the entire game of diablo 3, starting, maybe 10% in, verses like 66+% in with diablo 2.

We also need more events and special type things (unlockable things), such as the keys and organs from diablo 2.

I dont think that diablo is mainly a solo type game. I had characters that could solo through hell mode, but I didn’t know of anyone that preferred to solo. Two characters, or even one, can take ubertrist, yes, but we'd take as many as wanted to join, because that's what's funner for everyone. Co-op play is fun and I think it should be encouraged in diablo 3.

Encouraged in ways maybe requiring multiple players each to play in particular ways, and having roles that change as the monsters change.

They also need to put in more elements to help manage cheating, for instance, selling of high valued items to unlock global events. SOJ sold, for instance.
