I'd be ok with it either way. personally I'd rather have the difficulty system because then you don't just abandon the lowbie areas of the game forever. like in games like WoW you hardly ever have to go back to the places you started unless you re-roll. Not that it's the end of the world, just a waste IMO.

I hope there is a fourth difficulty that is way above 'Hell' difficulty. PvM was a breeze in D2 SC. There should still be some challenge.

I'm sorry. I didn't mean that there weren't any other balanced games, but it serves to show the company SC is in. All of those games you mentioned I own (or one of the series).

Warhammer has been out longer than Starcraft or Warcraft, and the reason Starcraft sells is because of Brood War and its complete balance between factions. Come to think of it, its the only game that Blizzard has made perfectly balanced
Give me an example of any other game that can say that it is "completely balanced". This is why Blizzard can be considered giant in their genres although they haven't saturated the market.

Starcraft sold more copies than any Warhammer game, and Warcraft (the RTS) also was very popular. I honestly had never heard of Warhammer until WAR started being talked about all over the place.

The RPG aspect is Diablo. D1 was big, D2 was huge. Recently, nothing. But at the times of their release, Blizzard was #1 with almost 100% of their games.

2.Activision is rich and can hopefully sponsore blizzard with their games.
I felt that if Blizzard continued on their own that they would have turned out as a gaming giant. Not that they weren't already in their own right, they had dominated the [computer] RTS, RPG, and MMORPG genres for years before this merger, but with the addition of WoW Blizzard had to be making billions of dollars a year. I mean how much more money do you need to create quality games? Activision may have more money (I seriously don't know how you can make more money than 10 million subscribers paying $15 a month) but I don't know how or why Blizzard could be sponsored by them.

The only thing I see good coming from this is more graphics and physics engine sharing. Also, seeing as how Activision is completely console gaming, Blizzard games may see higher probabilities of being console ports (good for Blizzard because more $$$).

BTW, were they bought out or is this more of a "let's bring together our efforts to benefit us both, but in reality it's better for one of us" things?

It says upturned, but isn't that sword on the angel in the image turned downwards? It's the pommel at the top of the sword and the blade at the bottom? In any case, it resembles a cross more than a sword IMO

Oh yeah, just make it only the party gets the loot, and kick anyone who isn't fighting. :P
You ever have one of those moments where your own stupidity hits you so hard you have to fight for breath? Neither have I, but I'm pretty sure that had this thread gone on for a couple more pages I would have been there.

Yep, there are plenty of ways to get this done. I just hope Blizard makes sure they follow the idea all the way through or else there is no difference made with this new system other than the randomness of who gets the good drops are left up to logarithms rather than lag spikes. No difference there IMO.

I'm hoping for a kick system anyway for whoever is the room maker.

Besides for the drop you probably need to be close to the monster and at least do some damage to it.
That's an interesting idea. Having to be within X yards of the monster or having to have done some damage to it.

If drops are specific for each character, what encouragement is there for getting mixed in with the combat? I see PUB games with 3-4 people doing actual work killing monsters, while some lazy or low-level SoB sits in back and advances when the monsters are cleared to collect their loot. I guess you can't eliminate all of this type of abuse, but something to counteract this like a kick system or what have you might need to be implemented to truly realize what Blizzard is trying to accomplish with this new drop system.

I had no idea HGL did this. I only played it in beta, and decided that it wasn't what I was looking for. Guess D3's announcement made waiting worth it =)

I just recently played CoD: 4 for the first time at my friends house on Xbox 360, and there is a good analogy to be made between this idea and the accomplishment there.

Like in CoD after X kills with weapon Y you get camouflage, red striping on weapon Y. So everyone can see that you reached X kills with that weapon. Just something to give people bragging rights.

The more I think about it, they could implement this system with PvP as well where you get a chain of ears on your toon and people can click on it to see all the people you've killed in PvP.
