Blizzard has said many many times before that they hold complete control over what games they make, how those games are made, how long they take to make, what platform they will release them on and when it's considered "done".
Anyone would be a fool to step in and mess with the receipe that Blizzard is working with. Everyone knows that whatever it is that they do behind closed doors, works. It works better then anyone else in the industry. A smart man who buys out Blizzard would say " Good job, keep doing whatever it is that you do!".
Only thing I would wish would change at Blizzard is the length of time they take to develop a game. It takes them just as long now when they are a HUGE company as it did when they just started out. I mean i know they work on several games at once now instead of just one, but they still take ridiculously long time to produce a game.

Jul 9, 2008Alcovitch posted a message on Blizzard Comments On The Classes In Diablo 32 classes we can say almost for sure will make the cutPosted in: News
1. Pure caster. Wizard, mage, sorceror... whatever you want to call it. There has to be a pure elemental magic user
2. Ranged class. Again with the diablo lore, you can't have rogues or Amazons as male, so they will call it something else. It will still be a class dependant on bows/spears.
I guarnetee you these 2 class roles will be filled in D3.
My vote for the 3rd and final slot will go to the Paladin. His buffs are very group friendly and he is a hybrid of melee/caster. I'm almost 100% sure he will remain in the 5. It doesn't matter if the barb uses some of the skills the Paladin had in D2, Blizzard will just give him new ones. -

1.) "OMG the concept art looks totally cool/roxxor, it's not too dark!1"
Does it really MATTER? It's the GAME that we'll be playing, not the concept art. The 3D artists have deviated far from the concept art, clearly. Again, not a criticism, but I don't see the same goddamn game when I look at the art and the gameplay vid.
They haven't diviated "far" from the concept art. Understand that Concept Art, is exactly that, Concept. Take a look at any of the Lord of The Rings dvd featurettes. Many of the designs for orcs, trolls etc went trough many iterations before settling with the final design. Hell they completely redesigned gollum after they had used a version in the first film.
Baiscally, alot of you need to learn and understand that there is an iteration process that happens from original concept art > final product. Each person along the way adds their little touch to the overall design. Keep in mind that some things that work in a sketch or painting may not work so well in a 3D model. The idea is to keep the essense and feel of the design in tact throughout the process. It's clear Blizzard did that.
I don't understand most of you. Blizzard's art department is clearly competant and top notch. Never have they released a game that didn't have the very best art, style and high quality animations. Alot of you need to get off your high horses. -
Jul 4, 2008Alcovitch posted a message on WWI - Diablo III Concept ArtLoad up the tristram Chath concept art. Can any of the morons crying foul about colorful graphics in game no see there is plenty of color in that concept art?Posted in: News
Just to help you along, the main color is BLUE, and theres lots of it.
Also, theres some well placed and used RED in there.
The use of color makes the whole image look ominus and gives the cath a look like something is brewing inside.
If you don't understand the use of color to set a mood in a painting/art/movie set, then go pick up a 101 art class. -

Good thing Blizzard didn't either! Over the top stupid exaggeration FTL?
BTW, blizzard north became Flagship studios. Look at the travasty of a game they produced. It's called Hellgate London. Or as it's known by some: Hellcrash Bugdon. -
Jun 30, 2008Alcovitch posted a message on Diablo III OverviewThose of you wishing for a Christmas release this year obviously have no idea of blizzards time frame. When was the last time they announced a game and it came out 6 months later?Posted in: News
Starcraft 2 was announced at the WWI last year. It's been a year, is it out yet? We don't even know if it'll be out this year or not.
When they have a closed beta going for a game, you can be sure it will release probably later that year.
From what I understood from the panels etc conserning D3 is that they spend a majority of those 4 years of development on their engine and especially the art direction. They did 3 complete overhauls of the entire games art design. That set them back some. If they had stuck to their first iteration of the art style, pretty good chances the game would be near complete now. But they didn't.
Seems like they have all their classes fleshed out and the first act roughed in, but nothing else. Now that their dev tools and engine is complete, along with them finally being pleased with the style, they should be able to churn out the remaining 3 acts (if they stick to the D2 4 act set up) in relative short order. Testing and balancing takes quite some time though.
Expect the game summer /fall next year. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

The buff doesn't change what monsters drop. All it does is increase your gold and MF % (along with apparently causing the boss to drop more loot)

How is this in any way penalizing anyone? There is no way they will make this buff last through log out or until you change chapter or quest. That will only promote what they are trying to avoid. You'll sweep the area clean of elites and champs, get your max stack of the buff and NEVER do anything but reset the game and B-line it right to the boss every time.
You don't have to play for hours. Why does everyone jump to these worst case scenarios? Play for as long as you want to play. You don't get max stack of the buff cuse you only got 30 mins to play? so what? You'll still be killing stuff, you'll still be finding loot etc. Yeah people with more time will probably end up with better loot per hour or whatever, but frankly that was always the case regardless of the buff.
Might as well say players having more free time is penalizing other players while we are at it.

That makes no sense.
They aren't rewarding people for never logging out of the game. They are rewarding players for sweeping areas clear to find elites and champs. Not like those idiots who B-line it right to the boss all the time.
This promotes actually exploring dead end tiles for elites and champs. Right now in beta (and without this change in retail) people don't even explore upper staircases, dead end tiles etc. People just run passed everything right to the exit. It's damn lame.
This new buff promotes you to clear whole areas and check even places you know don't lead anywhere in the hopes of finding elites and champs.
You can still leave the game. You can call it a night and come back tomorrow. You'll just need to find more elites and champs on your next play through.
Get used to this as this is what Blizzard intends end game to be.

If people will be settling into a build and not switch, how is losing the buff if you do switch drastic?
You only lose it once you've started. You can still switch skills in town.
It just seems people made up this idea that they would be switching skills all the time, before bosses, for different kind of elite or champion packs. I never understood why people believed this and blizzard clearly stated they DON'T want people doing that
By making this buff only work once you're 60, you should have found a build by then that works for you. You can still switch, just do it in town before you start the game for real.

It's been in the beta for ages. You simply haven't come across it till now.

Isn't it ALWAYS like 8-12h with blizzard during their maintenance?

It's just a bug in beta.
0
I highly doubt if the WP's spread like last time that they will ban 90% of the beta community thats going there cuse the current beta is boring as hell.
If they have a problem with it they should fix the underlying issue: the bug, instead of wiping peoples WP's as a band aid fix.

Who the hell plays games like this in 1024x anymore anyways??
0
LOL. It's not like seeing the very next area (with most of the mini dungeons not actually working) is a huge game spoiler and will ruin the remaining 3 acts? Come on.
And what is blizzard going to do? If it's spread to everyones games, they are not going to ban the entire beta community. They will simply hot fix it and remove the waypoints if they care enough to do so.

No, they need to do something to encourage people to actually explore. As it is right now, people take the shortest route through an area. If you notice that you're next tile is an end piece, people don't even explore it they simply turn around. Whole sections are being ignored because people are just B-lining their way through.
If they have bosses drop the best loot, but require you to hunt down rares/champs for that to happen, then people will have more reasons to search all the areas people are skipping.
Granted, this is happening in the beta and I guess you could argue that that might not be the case in the retail game, but i think it will.
Also, why are they still meddling with game systems if we are expecting a release date any time now? It's like this game is stuck in feature creep development hell. RELEASE IT ALREADY.

Any spell landing on a target dealing dmg = a hit.
