if anyone had been to teh PTR feedback forum you would have read the tons of great suggestions and constructive critisms that the community have given them but they choose to just give us the middle finger and do whatever they wanted and ignore everything that we suggested

the PTR feeback forum is pointless, as they would jsut do whatever they felt like it as the tavern talk clearly illustrates.

how many of them even play the game they are suppose to be working on.

someone puts out let's say some old Ford and over the years add in new stuff and it becomes a mercedes SLR with all the bells and whistles.
then that same company comes out and say that they are putting out a new car that is supposed to be the next in line after the Mercedes SLR.
but when that car came out it does not have most of the features of the SLR, sits less people, always breaking down etc.
are people gonna be happy about it and go but it took decades before that old Ford became the SLR and wait decades for it to improve or would they pissed about it?

D3 is not supposed to be compared to vanilla unpatched D2, it should be compared to the current version of D2

the effects look to be too much because you are watching a video.

Seems like the Mac vs PC thread turned into some kind of x64 vs x86 discussion... I guess I'll give my opinion on this since I know more about this than Mac vs PC.

First, x64 =/= 64bits -> Read on it if you want, but there's a huge difference between what Intel released around year 2000(pure 64bit) and what AMD released(x64) in early 2004. A 64bit operating system can run anything that a x86(32bit) can. x64 is a mix between pure 64bits technology, and the old x86(286, 386, 486 and all penthiums) technology. Only some drivers, DLLs, and poorly programmed(using x86 DLLS only, etc.) applications wont run correctly.

2nd, 64bits improves a lot more than only the 'max ram you can have', every calculation that is more than 2+2 will take advantage of it. A higher max ram doesn't make any program faster. BUT, if you're like me, running more than 1 application at the time on your computer, it helps a lot to have more.
I usually run : Any recent game + MSN Messenger + Web browser opened on forums + Facebook + Windows Media Player for music (+ Windows)... It can often take more than the 3.xxG max you can have with 32bits.

We've recently made the switch from XP32 to Vista64 at job for about 1/3 of our 150 workstations, and I was in the team who had to make sure that every application was still working in Vista64. Do you want me to make a(obviously long) list of the applications that wouldn't work? Here it is, get ready : None(Except an homemade tool for SolidWorks, which was updated within 2days).

You said we saw many issues with 64bits, and it was only the start! Well, like someone said, those problems were the start, in 2000... The IT progression is going fast enough that 9 years later, most applications can run without any problem in an x64 environment.

I'm not saying you HAVE to use a 64bits box to be able to run games, or that you need more than 4g to do anything nowadays, but I think that staying with a 32bit XP OS when your machine is powerful enough for 64bits(don't forget there's an XP64bits too...) is a bit like using pen + paper for the accountability of an enterprise... It still works great and we're used to it, but hell we'd be able to do so much more things using a computer...

Edit: And BTW, nowadays most processors + motherboards are native 64bits, the only thing that decides if your computer is running 32 or 64bits is the OS you're installing on. It wont be more expensive to have a 64bits rig, so why not installing the OS that'll use your computer to the max of his performances?

I'm glad to hear that they're taking the concept of equipment affecting appearance that Blizzard North pioneered to such acclaim with Diablo (although it certainly isn't as impressive nowadays) and making it even more detailed. Really great.

I don't really have an opinion on the NPC and hero animations but I'm sure NPCs will have a lot to do to make them more distinctive. More than Diablo 2 I'm sure.

I can't really understand some of the Diablo community's pre-occupation with gore. It's like the slasher vs. psychological horror type of debate seen so often among film fans. Personally, lots of blood does nothing for me when it comes to inspiring fear unless it is placed in an approriately frightening context and used somewhat sparingly in the game (ex. the Burcher's room). If it's just strewn anywhere and everywhere then it simply becomes part of the scenery and not really anything to get excited about. I hope we won't be seeing horribly bloody corpses in more than half of the game. A lot of corpses are fine, but they don't always have to be covered in blood.

I hope that the heavy use of the physics engine and wild effects won't ruin the atmosphere of horror that I love to see in this series. Too much banging around and objects flying everywhere can make things seem considerably less sinister and mysterious than they would otherwise. Sometimes silence and darkness are all you need to scare someone.

Not that I want the Diablo series to be a full fledged horror game since of course it's much more than that but I'd like for some scary undercurrents to remain. They help to give the game some soul.

This issue alone will make-or-break the deal for me. If Diablo 3 (or Starcraft 2) ships with overprotective DRM, I may have to pass on this masterpiece.

For those who don't know, lemme give you a quick rundown of DRM.

DRM = Digital Rights Management. Generally, it grants control over your copy of the game to the game creators (in this case, Blizzard). DRM has varying degrees of restriction. Serial keys are a very light (and in my opinion, acceptable) form of DRM; they control who has access to online benefits. Many games today employ copy protection DRM; the original disc works, but CD-Rs do not. EA recently exerted too much control over Spore (and several games preceding it) by restricting the number of times you can install the game ever (currently, I understand the limit to be 5 installs).

I am OK with serial keys. These keys at least somewhat ensure that my copy is my own. Blizzard also uses these to enable/disable access to Battle.net (great for kicking off cheaters/spammers).

I am NOT OK with games that require online validation of my game to play SINGLE PLAYER (such as Portal or Half-Life 2); I am not always near an Internet source (particularly on my laptop), and I want to enjoy something when Internet is not available.

I am also NOT OK with games that install rootkits or other programs that are designed to watch me, watch what programs I run, and report back statistics to the mother ship. SecuROM (EA's favorite DRM choice for many of its games) is the primary offender here.

The primary problem with DRM is that it is designed to stop piracy... but it never succeeds at doing that! Spore was leaked/pirated before it was even released, and it is a very recent game. Blizzard needs to understand that Diablo 3 will be pirated. That is an unfortunate circumstance in today's world, but any precautions should not royally annihilate the paying customer's experience. Today, pirates are enjoying DRM-free (aka hassle-free) copies of Spore, while the customers who actually gave EA real money have to deal with installation limits, SecuROM, etc.

Another big problem with DRM is that big companies have to maintain DRM servers. Microsoft, Sony, Yahoo, and now Wal Mart all sold DRM-locked music until they decided to stop; they were gonna shut down the DRM servers until customers voiced their rage about being unable to transfer that music (or ever download it again); the servers were kept running a bit longer. I don't know about anyone else, but I still have moments of nostalgia where I like to take my ancient copy of Warcraft II, stick it into my computer, and play it (no matter how old they get). If they required DRM servers to be running, they wouldn't work anymore.

DRM essentially changes purchases into rentals. No one can really purchase EA's Spore; people can only rent it as long as EA permits. Meanwhile, again, pirates (the ones who DIDN'T pay for the game) continue enjoying it with no problems.

Blizzard, be gentle with DRM. Don't require the disc to be in the drive. Don't have the game phone home just to play Single Player. Here is the point: the game will get cracked; the game will get pirated... but I will still go out and purchase the game. There are more honest people in the world than EA gives us credit for. I purchased Diablo 2 despite knowing I could have downloaded it illegally. Give value to your paying fans; don't make piracy the more enticing choice.
