I won't argue with that, but I still find the notion that we will be able to max all skills by the level cap just because some have a max of 5 ranks a faulty assumption.

I didn't make any assumptions about Diablo 3... I was just explaining that the idea of having different builds in any game requires there to be options that you can't have. In the case of Diablo, the less skill points you have available, the more your decisions where to put them matter. A few people seemed to be a little confused, and I just wanted to clear some things up.

In fact I'm sure Blizzard wont let players use every skill after they're done leveling up.

I'm just thinking out loud here, but if you get a significantly smaller amount of total skill points to use, say one half, (to make the 5/5 and 10/10 skills act like 20/20 in Diablo 2), and we know there are still 20 max point skills, that would make the 20/20 skills a pretty huge investment.

The fantasy answer, in this case, would be that we still get 1 skill per level up, but there are way more skills to choose from. ...Oh well, I guess its pretty pointless to be making guesses at this stage, since its bound to change regardless.

It has been likened to the barb warcries. In D2, you would have to invest 60 skill points to max out the warcries and their synergies. What if, in D3, you could max out your warcries with 30 points (to a similar power level as 60), then it frees up points and opens up more build variations. You might be able to put some other points in Natural Resist or Iron Skin or your attacks. As long as we can achieve similar strengths and balances, then its a good change IMo.

This is really a misleading thing to say.
The idea of 'build variation' requires an opportunity cost for each point you invest in a skill. In other words, each time you upgrade a skill, there are different skills that you CANNOT upgrade. If you could upgrade all of your skills, then there is no reason to have a skill tree in the first place, since everyone will have everything and unique builds will be impossible.

Yikes I just said SKILL a lot.

To everyone who says item-nabbing detracts from the experience of monster slaying: You forget that the heart and soul of Diablo has always been the items! It was never about killing monsters, that is just a means to an end. The reason we kill thousands of cows is to deck out our characters with godlies. I think an individual loot system really detracts from the thrill of getting great items. For example, which is a more satisfying experience, finding a Grandfather sword in Diablo, or buying PVP gear in WoW? I've always found equipping my WoW character a pretty empty experience, since it is all about spending time grinding away, and not about quick reflexes and luck.

I know you guys want to be guaranteed your items, its much safer and less risky. Most people don't want to be punished for dying, socketing their items wrong, or making bad level-up decisions, but don't forget that consequences are what makes our decisions and actions actually matter.

Sorry for being preachy, I guess I'm just really worked up right now. I hope you guys didn't find me too condescending.
