It's either going to be Christmas 2011 with the beta announced tomorrow or they'll wait for their typical Diablo summer release in 2012 which really does seem far out, even for Blizzard.

We know they're trying for 2011, and I think they'll manage it. Whatever they say in tomorrow's call will be the real tell.

This class looks badass, no doubt, but...

anyone else think 'demon hunter' is a strange / lame title? I mean, which of the classes ISN'T hunting demons? :confused:

This is getting ridiculous. It's your name. To be displayed on a forum that in no way affects your interaction with any of Blizzard's games.

I'd say what it comes down to, is that it's Blizzard's official forum. It's their turf. If they feel this is what they need to do to make THEIR forums respectable again, all the power to them, and again I say it's long overdue.

This isn't even a case of 'It's their game, play by their rules.' You're not playing anything. They don't owe you the forums, much less the forums how you would like it at their (literal) expense.

What's funny is that...we're all complaining about it on this forum. Obviously this is something beyond optional. We don't just have one or two or 5 choices, there are dozens of Blizzard and Diablo-related forums one might choose from. If one of them were to do this, and it bothered you, you'd just shrug and say 'Oh, weird. Not for me, thanks.', and not give it a second thought.

Many people are here saying 'Oh, I don't go on those forums anyway.' Good for you. No, really, I mean, who cares? You don't, I don't.

I just don't get the melodrama and FUUUUUUUU rage going on. If you're not down with it, stay away from the forums. If posting on Blizzard's forums is that important to you, really sit down and consider of catering to Blizzard's desire for a decent atmosphere on their own forums by something as harmless (yes, it's harmless) as your name.

I'm not even saying this is 100% the best and perfect way for them to do it, but it's certainly not the worst or 'most retarded' (you all sound 12 when you say that, by the way), and I don't feel they've overstepped themselves at all in this.

Exactly. The people that whine about 'losing customization' are the same ones to give you a blank stare when you ask them how much 'variation' there is among stats between any two Sorcs in D2.

The mechanic doesn't work. Blizzard said they realize this and are removing it and replacing it with a system that will not only offer actual customization, but customization that's more fun to play with.

I wanted a notable amount of new content as much as the next guy, but I do think people in general are being hard on Blizz in that regard. They indeed used the word 'content', but they were careful to not qualify it with anything; i.e., 'significant new content', etc...

We got new content. Just not as much as most were hoping for. Not sure why all this Blizz hate, e.g., 'They promised blah blah...'

I remember one Bashiok post way back where he specifically said he thought the community was giving the patch more hype than it deserved, so how can we blame them? Can only really blame ourselves.

I was only initially disappointed when the first PTR hit with no TPPK fixes, but eventually those made it in, which is all I was really expecting anyway.

Ladder Reset + TPPK Fix + fixing some duping methods / uber rushing / rune drop rate / respecs / etc....I'm pretty happy with that.

No reason to be disappointed / hating on Blizz for one's own foolishly high sense of expectation. The only thing they reniged on was stash size, and even that was never 'promised', they only said they were trying to do it.

I guess I'm the naive optimist in the crowd, but I guess I can't get too worked up and pissed about these things because I really don't think it's intentional -- we could debate the details of whether this kind of approach (if intentional) would actually work in Blizzard's favor, e.g. raise more hype for the game versus strain it over time.

I simply get the impression they try to play the precarious balancing game between saying things too early and too late, bearing in mind things could prop at at literally any given point in the development process that means they have to delay the game.

It's frustrating, I'm 100% agreed on that, and it gets old, but I don't buy it's pure intention nor pure incompetence; it's just how this particular thing goes, which in a way is why it can be exciting.

Official Blue post is up on this. They're now aiming for a release sometime in the first half of 2010.

1. I never really noticed it. I guess I just accepted that he's a monk and uses his fists. All of his abilities are in some way related to martial arts, so it makes sense that his attacks use fists. Then again, I don't plan on using the monk as my main, so I DO see how this might upset others.

2. I actually don't mind it. It looks pretty cool and adds to the effect that we are these massive champions that are the only ones capable of stopping the evil! It enhances the ownage factor.

3. I didn't really notice it, but honestly... one of the things that makes WoW so great are the amazing structures and environments. Why not make everything look beautiful on your screen? There's a lot of design and effort that goes into making these environments look amazing, and I think whether they look like another game or not, they are absolutely astonishing.

Monks don't use weapons that's like complaining Hunters in WoW should be able to throw their melee weapons, don't like it just don't play the class.

Ragdoll physics make the feeling of killing monsters rewarding and you won't know until you actually play. Only the weak monsters will be knocked back when you kill them, but let me tell you how fucking cool you feel when you bash a zombie in a house so hard that it looks like he flies back into a wall and dies on impact. They got this exactly right and again unless you play the game personally you will not understand, don't worry about it.

Epic Structures? What the fuck are you talking about? The first thing you do in D2 is walk outside of the rouge encampment and enter the Blood Moor which is a HUGE VAST open field, as is all of Acts 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. Did you only play the fucking maggot lair in some cheap D2 demo you got at blockbuster as a kid and not it's your biggest gripe?

Short answer: Blizz makes good games.

Blizz has small development teams, which are better for quality but bad for time. This, coupled with their high standards means their dev cycle is long as all hell.

Size doesn't factor in as much as you might think, since generally bigger games have farther spread content. Depends on the game.

There is usually a rune that makes it so that its the same skill just with a damage boost/cost reduction. So if you like how the skill functions, just use one of those runes. Obviously that won't always be a choice, but it will be a decent amount of the time.

If they didn't make money then you wouldn't have a game to play. They aren't going to release something that won't make money, would you? You're running a very large company that makes a lot of money, do you release something because, eh It's ok if we lose money on this, we are making a ton. No. That isn't how the world works.

Be happy at the very least that Blizzard seems to work under the pretense that if they make a great game, they will make money on the fact that people will buy something they like. At least they arn't making a sequel that is the exact same fucking game with new maps. (Call of Duty has no new features from game to game. Reworking interfaces doesn't count as a new feature.)

Having spent the past weeks digging through the data files and looking at the changes that have come since the original beta client build up through the current build 7338 (Patch 3), I can tell you the game most certainly is *not* done.

A few examples:
* An extra salvage treasure class was added to the item tables (ie internal data structures are still in flux)
* Many Legendary/Set items have associated affixes that aren't being applied due to affix level restrictions
* Many Legendary/set items are in the data files, but don't actually have any stats yet
* Some icons are still missing for items
* etc

Activision was most likely pushing for a holiday release for financial reasons, but at their latest status meeting the D3 team decided that they just weren't going to be able to make that deadline so they pushed the release date. (If they wanted to meet that date they really only have a little over a month left before the game would have to go Gold Master and be packaged and shipped to retailers. They could still have a patch on release, but testing release builds takes considerably longer than developer/beta builds so even that doesn't buy them all that much time.)
