May 9, 2011Kiserai posted a message on May 9th Conference CallI'm not sure where the disappointment is coming from; did anyone expect an actual guaranteed date? We knew they weren't entering beta until the last systems are announced, is it wasn't going to be imminent (i.e., this month). That means anything is still an estimation on their part. They were right on par with what they said along these lines for SC2, I think they've gotten a better grasp of their own dev cycle and I'm confident in their goal of a late summer beta.Posted in: News

anyone else think 'demon hunter' is a strange / lame title? I mean, which of the classes ISN'T hunting demons? -

I really don't appreciate having you guys rip my throat apart for not agreeing with everything.
You mean me? I wasn't directing any of that at you, specifically. Moreso at the people having complete tantrums, i.e., 'OMG NOOOO I WANT MY KNIIIIIGHT' without so much as seeing some gameplay.
You said 'Eh, not my thing.' That's cool. Barbarian has never been my thing. It's just how it is. -
Aug 21, 2009Kiserai posted a message on New Diablo 3 Character Class: The Monk!Right on. I'm not saying it's going to be my first char. probably but I think it's a neat direction and has a LOT of potential, and I can't wait to see it. I'm not disappointed in any character or spell yet that I've seen.Posted in: News
Just wait for the cluster!#@% that will ensue when the 5th / final class is announced, there will be people sobbing for days that (insert class they wanted) didn't make it or was implemented in another form, without giving the classes we are getting a chance. -
Aug 21, 2009Kiserai posted a message on New Diablo 3 Character Class: The Monk!Blah, no one ever likes change. I can't believe how many people are already disappointed or giving up on the class because of 1 image and the title 'Monk'. We have no idea what his story his, how he fights, what his abilities are, etc. etc. etc.Posted in: News

Aug 21, 2009Kiserai posted a message on New Diablo 3 Character Class: The Monk!Posted in: NewsQuote from "nefaust" »Isn't the female wizard from Xiansai?
This is an old old debate and no-one ever believes me and dear God I can't wait to be vindicated.
She was born in Xiansai, and sent to Caldeum at an extremely young age to be educated. I don't buy she 'hails from' or 'represents' Xiansai, in the way that ever class seem to do.
For all we know he was born in Caldeum and sent to Xiansai to be trained It would explain why he doesn't look Asian, as many assume the natural populace of Xiansai do. -
Aug 21, 2009Kiserai posted a message on New Diablo 3 Character Class: The Monk!Yeah, not buying that he's any kind of 'healer', in any sense. It would break the mechanic of all classes meant to be played both in SP as well as online.Posted in: News
And Psionics would be in line with his archetype, and there are a dozen ways they could implement absolutely badass psionic attacks with the engine they've been showing off (i.e., think of some of the Wizard abilities). -

and he represents Xiansai.
*Unconfirmed by Blizzard, but I'd put money on it. -
Aug 21, 2009Kiserai posted a message on New Diablo 3 Character Class: The Monk!Posted in: NewsQuote from name="Duckman Drake" »I'm pretty disappointed.Monks are pretty boring and over-played in RPGs.
I would of preferred something more creative and out-there.
Don't you think you should see, at minimum, a minute or two of gameplay before assuming you know how the class will play and what it's mechanics will be?
By your reasoning the Barbarian should be scrapped. Want to talk about overplayed? Hulking fighter-type is the absolute basic class of every RPG ever created. -

I think the consensus hope is that they'll be doing both. -
Aug 4, 2009Kiserai posted a message on Patch 1.13 PTR Forum is Up - Don't Get Excited, ThoughIn case everyone has missed it, the WC3 patch just went live, which in Bashiok's own words mean the 1.13 for D2 should be very, very close in hitting PTR.Posted in: News

In other news, telling someone he's talking out of his ass, using the word 'retarded', and failing to apparently grasp 3rd-grade grammar = super constructive ways to theorycraft in an intelligent way. Thanks for the contribution of that post. Bud.

You're right they've had a long dev cycle and have used it to iterate many systems many times. That's a Good Thing(TM). That means if something didn't work they didn't have to say 'Oh well, we have to ship, just put it out there.' They got to say, 'Well, it doesn't work. We're not putting out a crummy system.'
I don't get why that's a bad thing. We all want D3 sooner and with More Stuff. But I'd rather have less stuff than crummy stuff. I'm glad the D3 team has the luxury of being able to throw away bad systems instead of having to stick with them. I wish smaller indie clubs had that same luxury. Blizzard was a small company once too. They've been massively successful and now get to do things the way they want. We as fans are lucky for that and I think some of us aren't glad enough for it. PvM is the core of Diablo, it always has been. There's a very small (though passionate) minority of PvPers that see it differently, but that's what it is. the PvM aspect is finally good enough to release, so they're releasing it without delaying it for what is ostensibly a minor mechanic for a minority of the players.
You use the word 'hubris' yet hubris would be them arrogantly saying to themselves 'Well we have a crummy little PvP system, let's just give it to them, they'll be glad for anything and will shut up.' No, they're taking more time so even a minority-satisfying mechanic will be up their standards.
If they wanted to languor in hubris and rest on their laurels they'd have shipped D3 2 years ago and we'd have a shitty game right now. The kind of language being bandied about here is just foolish.

To say you'd rather have a really crummy PvP system at launch seems silly to me. To say they could have had a good PvP system in place with no cost to the development of the PvM system most players care about seems to require making a really big assumption on the workings of the dev team that I don't think anyone outside of that team reasonably has.

PvP also isn't shelved. It's coming.

My personal speculation is that it's Auriel.

Definitely fun to try and tie it in though. I just don't think it's really intended to stretch outside of pure gameplay mechanics.

Edit: Yeah, like others I think maybe losing one instance of the buff per death is an elegant way to handle this. Someone fax Blizzard.

The stacking will need some experimenting of course. I don't think it's going to get as exponential as jaclashflash thinks, gear will obviously affect how fast you can kill a pack but at endgame it's going to be a challenge no matter what. I think a max 3-4 'charges' of the buff walks the line between too few and too many, i.e. too casual / too hardcore. What's nice is if you only have a little while to play you can always just run around and grab 1-2 kills for a bit of a buff then to kill Diablo or whatever, and when you have more time = more kills = more buff. It lets casuals enjoy the mechanic while still rewarding players who invest more time.
Not sure how much I liked a timed aspect, because I don't personally that sense of rushing against the clock.
And yeah, of course it promotes group play -- the devs have said since day 1 that first and foremost the game is designed to be played co-op. I'm down with that.
All in all I really think it's a great system and a brilliant way to promote varied gameplay without fundamentally changing the way the game is designed. I'm really excited to check it out. I do wish it kicked in a bit earlier, but I understand it's for the endgame. I don't think anyone had a blast running Baal 20 times a day as an endgame.
I don't understand why people post just to say stuff like this. If you're not a mod, you don't need to post all. If you think it violates a forum rule please just report it and let a Mod make a call / combine threads / etc.
