posted a message on What acts/areas do you expect to see?
I think we'll start someplace green. The land will be bitter, and it's dungeons grim, but this should seem like a fairy tale when compared to the end of the game.

I don't see how we could avoid diving into hell toward the end.. or at least something awfully close. Flaming pits, pentagrams and cathedrals of terror will abound.

I also have a feeling we might be seeing some dank dungeons or ruins that might last for a whole act.. perhaps an entire underground act that is not related to hell or anything along those lines. Something to hearken back to the time spent under the cathedral in Diablo.

I'll want to dual wield battle hammers or some other blunt weapon of that ilk. Was awesome in D2, anyway.

Yeah, just another step of unnecessary WoWification I think. I brought this up pretty early on.. I love the gauntlet from Diablo I/II (in fact, I love it so much I use it as my computer's default cursor) and it'd hurt me deeply if they replaced it with that lame arrow.

I overreacted a bit... mostly because I knew from the second I said "WoW" that at least one person would got all hot and bothered over it.

Either way the only reason I suggested it could be implemented that way is to assist the people who think it should all tie in with lore. And WoW isn't the only game to tie fights in with lore, so I don't think calling it "wow shit" is fair.
While I am against introducing WoW mechanics, I think the idea of justifying this with the lore like WoW does would work better than not explaining it at all. But, personally, I don't want any other shit. No WoW shit, no Unreal shit, no MMO shit or FPS shit in general. I just want Diablo shit, because I love it.

I love Unreal too, and when i feel like playing CTF I'll play that.

So no spells? No melee weapons? No leveling up? What about armor, can we wear armor? Oh wait... that was in WoW too...

Nobody is asking for WoW "shit", if anything we're asking for Unreal Tournament "shit"
..to be implemented the same way as in WoW...

And don't take what someone says and twist it man, that's stuff that was pre-existant in the Diablo universe, you're talking about stuff from other games that wasn't originally in diablo and introducing it in.. that's a whole 'nother ballpark than spells and armor, dude.

I understand your viewpoints on everything but this last bit. How would playing capture the flag be "degrading"?

You would probably be right that it's no place for fun and games, except for the fact that very rarely do people just go hostile and kill people because they feel like it. Most of the time they join a dueling game with the intent of fighting. I don't see the downside to giving them more options when they go off to fight each other.
Well, yeah, but that kind of kills what little role-playing elements diablo has for me. You know? of course people aren't doing PvP duels because they actually are murderously enraged with someone, but the hostility was a way to allow people to do that while maintaining a motive for the character that actually made sense.

I just don't see how some Witch Doctor or something, fighting to save the world, his traditions, and his people could possibly be justified in taking a break like that just to play a game. That's how I would see it as degrading.. the character you play in the Diablo games is a badass hero intent on saving people from Demons and stuff. The only way I could see to have a capture the flag or something similar work in game would be to have them like tournaments or sports or something.. and I know I would feel degraded if I went from being 'Savouir of all' to 'CTF star #1".

Don't get me wrong, it would be a fun idea, I just can't see justifying it in the game, and I want Diablo to maintain what little ability to roleplay that there is.

Diablo just isn't the place for fun and games. A lot of MMOs have little games, and tournaments, and the like, but it just doesn't seem right for Diablo.

The only PvP we saw in the last game was when players expressed hostility for one another.. generally, if you hated someone, you could try and kill them. And that is how I think it should stay.. my character will have better things to do than play a game. I'm sure Blizzard has put other interesting stuff to do in for high levels, I don't want to degrade myself by playing capture the flag or anything though.

posted a message on 4 Max Players!?!
Has anyone considered it might be more about performance?

I mean, really, perhaps at this still-early stage it's just not realistic to have more than 4 players in a game due to lag or something. The graphics are fully 3d, and with the physics flying around all the time i could see how too many people could slow things down.

    Personally, I don't really care.

C'mon, it's a Diablo game. there's no doubt in my mind I'll be fighting Diablo as the final boss in the actual game. it would be a disappointment otherwise. Blizz can work out the kinks in the story anyway.

Nah. Blizzard always come up with interesting April Fools jokes like this and they're all pretty interesting and outrageous, but they never go so far as to reuse them much. I think blizzard will be announcing some new stupid stuff next april fools regarding Diablo III, not just recycling the same.

And yeah, I'm really used to all of blizzard's april fools jokes, but I wonder how many people actually thought the Archivist was real? Surely they all caught on, I mean, it was pretty blatant I thought. The whole internet seems to be out to get you on april fools, it makes it hard to not notice that date

posted a message on How will you play DIII?
I'll probably read the book while it's installing.

Then, I'll make a battle.net character, going with hatever class looks coolest in character selection screen. I'll then make a passworded game or game no one else can join, and play through the first difficulty. Slow and steady, ish. Just pick whatever skills look cool or whatever, not doing too much pre-planning.

Next character, I'll pick another class, do a bit more pre-planning this time, get more comfortable with first difficulty, and play with other people. After I'm comfortable I'll go to hardcore and try to reach the top.

Yeah, it will cost more (maybe a lot more) but in the end I think you'll be much more happy with the result.

As for what Trag'oul looks like, geez, that's a good question, the description is a bit out there. I kinda picture something like Tahmu from guild wars (only bigger)

Or maybe something closer to Marvel Comics' eternity (except shaped like a dragon instead of a guy, obviously)

If you can't find any, support art, man. Find someone you like on deviantRT and commission them to draw it. That way you'd at least be able to ask for just what you want... which is important if you're getting your body permanently marked, right?

I would be quite happy with the way D2 is, with 3 difficulties, and the only added content is at the end of Hell.

I don't want them to spend too much time adding content to nightmare and hell and in turn leave stuff out of normal (which I will undoubtedly be playing more than the others)

This thread, though recently closed, has had over 2000 posts, the most of any thread here, and almost all of the comments are telling blizzard they dont like what they see, after blizzard has been working on the game for +4 years.
That's because what they see isn't Diablo.
