    We have no RIGHT to form a union. It isn't like this is a job we're forced to do. We're fully able to pick and choose which games we play or don't play at all.

    Yes and no. We have legal right to influence gameplay beyond what threats of not buying can get us.

    That being said, its a terrible idea that would stifle creative game development.

    I get it. It's not even something that I care a ton about. But for me, I think it would be neat to have each class manage mana differently, or have some different gameplay mechanics.

    a mmorpg like WoW for instance?

    Oh wait they already have a class there with energy and combo meter. :D :D

    Thats cool. I never played wow(if you couldn't tell). It just to me, almost every game I've ever seen a combo meter in was a hack n' slash.

    Nope, imho a combo meter don't belong in a hack and slash game. :)

    Just my opnion though. :)

    Thats cool that its your opinion, but..... ummmm..... What type of game does it belong in then?

    [i]Disclaimer : This post is an example of a larger gameplay philosophy[i]

    This is an idea I had a little bit ago while posting about charing skills. And it ties into a larger gameplay concept, which is to create slightly different gameplay mechanics for different classes.

    That being said, I have an Idea about a combo meter. Instead of the Assassin having mana, or a deplete-able energy source, it works in reverse. You build up energy, determined by how much damage you've dealt in a given amount of time.

    ALGEBRA TIME :

    A = Damage Dealt
    B = Damage taken
    t = Time

    (A/t) - (B/t) = Total Combo Energy

    When you use a skill, it doesn't drain the energy. Instead, you need so many points to use each skill.

    posted a message on New Attribute Suggestion for Skills: Charging
    Check it out : I wrote a long a couple of paragraphs about a combo meter, it just got a little "off topic."

    So instead, I'll start a new thread for that, and just comment on this.

    I strongly believe that charging skills for every class is a terrible idea, but instead should be used by one or two classes. A spell-caster would be great, seeing as how they tend to have a bit of distance between them and the enemies in the first place. Another good one would be a rouge/amazon class, for the same reason.

    I feel this way because I'm on this new kick, where I think there should be large fundemental gameplay differences between the classes.

    P.S. Gear-dependent gameplay has been around for a lot longer than Diablo, too. Unfortunately, all online games are like that.

    Yeah, I know what you mean. But to me, it is still a staple in the gameplay.

    I think that if you are going to name something that wasn't present in Diablo I, you should give an explanation why you feel like it is "iconic" to diablo.

    posted a message on Iconic diablo elements
    The point of this thread is for everyone to post their thoughts on what the think are Iconic Elements to the Diablo Franchise. Also, wether or not you feel like its going to be in diablo III or not. Please, no fighting over graphics, or anything some else posts. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, and you aren't going to change anyones anyway. note: these aren't always things super important to the gameplay, but things you have an emotional connection to form the games.

    I'll Start.

    -Isometric camera angle

    -Large Swarms of monsters

    -Point & Click Interface

    -Unique Character Classes

    -Treasure Hunting/Gear dependent gameplay

    -Skill Trees (even though they weren't in diablo 1, I feel as though they completely set the standard for RPG's to follow, and it was SO important to diablo II gameplay, that I it counts.)

    -The Character Sheet/+5 stat points per level

    -Town Portals

    -The Health/Mana Globes

    -Certain Enemies (Fallen in particular)

    -Pentagrams/Black Magic/Satanism(downplayed in D2, in favor of a more "Epic" Story.)

    -Inventory Tetris/grid

    Those last two are the only things feel are going to be missing in Diablo 3. I don't really think that either are important to the gameplay, so much as I feel like both are things that when I see, I feel like "this is diablo". They strike a certain emotional chord with me, and it makes me sad to see them go. Either way, I feel like the game will be great, but feel like it could use some of this and some of (Warning, graphic) this.

    posted a message on Frustrated at Diablo 3 Skills
    Ok, I'm going to chime in and possibly sound like an asshole(fair warning).

    Me, personally, would have liked to see NO skill caps at all. Where you can just level up you skill points to your heart's content. If you wanted to put 100 points in teeth, you could. That way there is no set number to tell you to stop, you have to decide for yourself. I feel like this would lead to the largest variety in builds.

    That being said, that would make balancing skills impossibly hard. On top of that, I don't feel like the the 20 point skill limits are remotely close to being an iconic part of the game, I barely think skill trees themselves qualify seeing as how they weren't even in the first game.

    So, I close by saying, I trust that blizzard will do what will produce the most balanced gameplay, seeing as how it is one of their strong suites.

    So if you go into a dungeon and go deep enough and you come across rooms with no candles or torches all you will have to go on will be your own light radius thus making the dark areas have a nice scary atmosphere. In this way I think light radius would be nice in Diablo 3.

    That sums up how I feel about it. Using it from time to time for a specific gameplay purpose, not unlike DII.

    in fact blizzard should definately take a page out of Valve's book s far as the set up of battle.net goes, steam is a very effective interface considering it's free!

    This how you know steam is incredible. When ever I explain everything it does and how it works to people, they ask "How much does it cost?"

    Charge gold for it. Price it so you can afford to respec 4-5 points really early on, and maybe 10-12 points total for each character.

    Also charge for respecing stats, expanding your inventory, socketing items, horadric cube services, ect.

    Dupers, hackers, and botters should all have their CD keys banned from B.net, and fined $1250 US. Simple as that. No one is going to risk paying over $1000 to cheat at a fucking video game.
