Also, if you called it weight, you'd have the rabid zealots screaming OMG DIABLO3 LOOKS JUST LIKE ULTIMA ONLINE.

Yes, but those people are stupid. Calling it weight dates back to pen&paper RPGs.

I know what some of you are saying but I am saying that it will take away from MFing(if they have MF in D3) it is amazing to get 800 mf and every boss you kill you can't wait to see the drops. Noone will want to MF or just go off and look for items if you can just kill a couple monsters and buy the item. The game is not a MMO...only up to 8 people in a game is what you have to remember.

I still think you are missing the main point. they wouldn't be able to buy items just by killing a couple of monsters. You would have to do equal or more work to obtain the amount of gold needed to trade for any item. And ultimately, the person that finds the items is the person that decides what they are worth trading for. If anything, if you were still doing you magic find runs, you would be one of the people in control of the economy.

I like the sound of that. You could call it "weight" though, instead of "slot number".

I'm guess that they more or less have it figured out though. I don't care a ton either way.

My problem with P2P for diablo 3, is it doesn't serve any function. They've said that the idea party size about 4 players, so there isn't any need for massive servers. The idea that you would get more frequent/more massive updates isn't really true either. Valve has been updating Team Fortress 2 like a motherfucker. They release a steam patch every week(which is great for Anti-cheat/anti-piracy). They don't charge a dime to use steam.

:P Makes more sense for them to use something besides mana anyway. They aren't very magic savvy.

I always felt like the assassins and barbs should have used stamina for more of their skills than mana.

I am just afraid that you will be able to buy every single item with gold. Or they make a auction house. Don't you feel better when you get an item with a trade. A item that not many people have. It's the fun of creating every character and getting the best gear you can get. Every time i stopped playing diablo 2 for a bit was when I got every best item there was to get and it took a while to get them as well but it is all worth it at the end. Anyone kid can go and kill 100 monsters and buy whatever they want.

Thats easy to control though. As long as the rare items are, in fact, rare, their value will remain the same. Everything is relative, sure, but just because gold becomes more valuable doesn't mean that everything else becomes less valuable.

The best way to increase the value of gold, is to increase demand, and decrease supply. Gold is added to supply when its dropped by an enemy, or given from selling to an NPC. It increase demand, you have to make something worth buying from NPC's. I would say services, such as respec or adding sockets to items. And by doing that, you also take money out of circulation, reducing supply.

To sum it up, by offering services from NPC's, you greatly increase the value of gold, while maintaining an equal value of items.

I understand now kind of. I think it should be limited to some extent, but I just know I've accidentally put into a skill without thinking and I can only imagine accidentally doing that on a higher level character and getting extremely irritated.

I like it as a way to tweak the basics of your character, and to tie into the economy. But I don't like it as a way to completely rebuild your character.

That is, of course, except for PvP. Where unlimited respect seems like it would be a must, at least for competitive play.

I still don't get it. I could build pretty much any class with any skills (using a little common sense) and still be able to kill things.

I don't see how it makes anything unbalanced. It's only unbalanced in PvP if people are allowed to respec to their hearts content.

Ok, let me first say that I'm mostly neutral about it(I like the idea respec to be used to balance the economy). I just want you to understand this perspective.

If there is unlimited respec, there is no negative effect to placing a skill point. That changes the economic value of a skill point. It makes each skill point more valuable, and each skill less valuable. It also changes the importance of placing a skill point. If you know its permanent, Then there is a certain importance to every, single, point you place(especially the first time through the game).

I have a small economics background(it was going to be my minor before I dropped out to work on music). So my perspective on this(and everything), relates to that.

I'm not saying respecing is bad, I'm just saying it ultimate has a huge effect on gameplay.

What balance are you talking about? Every class in D2 was just as able to kill stuff as the other pretty much... It was a lot more gear dependant than skills.

Yes, it was based on gear more than skills.

I'm talking about the balance between the individual skills inside each class. It's more or less an economic concept.

If blizzard put it in the game, they will attach a cost of some description to it. We have no idea what that cost will be (Gold? XP?) as we currently know so little about D3.

What we *DO* know is that blizzard always put in incredible effort into gameplay and balance. You only need to look at SC, SC2 (What we've seen so far), and WoW. I don't see D3 being any different.

Yes. And I would love to see more balance in the skills than in D2. I don't want to see any useless skills.

    It is not.

It is in WoW, but it won't be in D2, unless you mean PvP gameplay then BARELY.

If you don't like the idea of people giving you more of a challenge in PvP you have no business PvPing in the first place.

    I never played PvP.

And it does have a gigantic effect on the balance of the gameplay. How could you say it doesn't? I'm not saying its a good change or bad change, but unlimited respec completely redefines the balance of the skills. If nothing is permanent, then no skill point placed has a negative effect. How is that not a MAJOR CHANGE IN BALANCE?

Treasure hunting is what made D2 so much fun imo. I would rather look for a item and trade with people and see what everyone has for a hour than be out killing monsters for an hour 2 get enough gold to buy a item.

    +1.

Thats why I think venders should offer services(such as socketing) for gold, not items. You have to keep those rare items, rare.

This way, Players can not Buy items for NPC's, but could buy them from other players(with gold).

    An Example:

Sue has some armor that she needs socketed, but doesn't have the money to pay for it. However, she has some item that she can trade to John for the gold to socket the item.

    I love economics.

If you don't like respeccing, why not just ignore the feature when it comes out?

Just because blizzard put the button there doesn't force you to click it.

Because it has a gigantic effect on the balance of the game.

I kind of wonder if everyone demanding that they make the game 'darker' has ever played Clive Barker's Jericho. Escapist / ZeroPunctuation has a pretty sweet video review of that game, where he bashes the game for its 'darkness' and all the other stuff people want to see in Diablo 3. With fantastic reasons.

    http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/14-Clive-Barkers-Jericho

Thats a different game, and a terrible execution. They made the game Unplayble with the darkness, and then added gloss maps to make everything shiny as fuck. and AFTER that, the gameplay was horrible. You had to spend most of your time trying to keep your team for running out and getting killed, because they were all worthless when you weren't controlling.

Also, its first person as appose to isometric. The isometric view point gives you 360 degrees of view relative to your character. Now granted, if you make it as dark as it is in Jericho, it won't matter. But That's not mean there isn't a happy medium.
