You're full of shit. No-one have said that they won't buy the game if Blizzard doesn't change their art direction of Diablo III.
.
Not quite, in case you haven't noticed I was addressing the people who were in that school of thought. And many are. They've at one point said it in this topic or another, and it's ridiculous.
Either way the suggestion has already been made, the petition is useless now. Any change will come through logical game development progression. SC2 went through heavy design changes, specifically in the area of de-cartoonizing it, and I don't recall having to sign any petition for that... But then again, never was a member of starcraftfans.
And no, they didn't revamp the whole look, they kept their original art choices with slight alterations that would appeal to the fans. Which is exactly what's going to happen.
"Kieth Lee - We want to bring as much variety as we can when you're playing the game so that you're excited to check out new environments. We don't want everything to look the same and that's really what we're trying to aim for."
That would lead me to the conclusion. And maybe also the 100% we've seen is like .2% of the overall product, which is still in early stages.
Personally I like actually have a book in my had. Plus reading text after text on a screen feels retarded. Like I'm an idiot, literally.
Quote from "Jinshin" »
Going on a Star Wars comic kick; reading up on "Dark Times" and "Legacy". Also reading volume three of R A Salvatore's Dark Elf Trilogy.
"Legacy" sucks, in my opinion, and is pointed at the horny-twenty-something demographic. "Dark Times" is incredibly refreshing, by contrast, as its characters are highly diverse and developed, and really help inspire sympathy for the peoples of the galaxy as they are brought under the dark heel of the nascent Empire. "The Dark Elf Trilogy" is D&D based. At first I had little interest in it, but persisted and got enchanted half-way through the second volume, and aim to finish this arc of The Drizzt Legends.
I somewhat like Legacy. The art, save for one issue, is great. Personally, like I mentioned before... I'm a sucker for continuation type stories. Always wanting to know what happens next. And really... That's what keeps me on the issues.
I have one of the Drizzt novels as well. Couldn't bear to read it though. Got it a while ago, guess I wasn't in my reading-phase at the time. Maybe I'll finally open it up?
I felt (and still do) so strongly against the WoW style that signing that petition for me was a no-brainer, especially after reading all that it said on the front page. Whether it will impact anything or not, is another question, but I felt that putting my signature in there was my only way of actually having a chance to voice my opinion. I don't agree that it is childish.
I'm not..
Yes you are. You're truly going to miss out on a great experience because of an art design. Half of the almost archetypal WoW design is attributed to it's dated graphics. I for one, save for the colors and certain minuscule aspects barely see the comparison.
Whining on a forum/petition because you can't have a game exactly how you want it and saying you won't buy it even though no one really gives a crap, and actually not buying it? = Shit. Full of.
Send them an email. That way it'll actually be your voice. Everyone on the interweb knows petitions are made for wagon-jumpers.
Didn't know Yahoo did this kind of thing. It's funny, at my graphic design class the teacher always says something along the lines of "don't clusterfuck your website like Yahoo" I can see why he says that now...
Honestly, that petition isn't going to do shit most likely. It's not as if Blizzard is going to come out and say, "All right, we was wrong, we suck at game design, we'd like to hire alll of you at dfans to help work on D3"
It might change, but that has nothing to do with the petition. It's logical progressive game development. All we needed to do was express our... disapproval, and they would have worked on it. The petition was childish.
Frankly I'm fine with the design. It's not game altering at all... And everyone saying they won't buy the game is full of shit.
It's almost impossible to get classes that differ completely from the passed ones. Blizzard has done well in using archetypes for variable and fun game play.
Anyway you spin it, you'll get a Paladin, Range/Rogue and another Sorcerer type character.
In case of Blizzard, they got enough cash from WoW
so they aren't strapped for cash and they have
Starcraft 2 coming up soon too, so they shouldn't
be in any rush before unveiling Diablo 3 and
I don't understand why wouldn't they take their time
to show case their new game from the best side?
Judging from their website they put alot of effort
into the presentation of this game, and tried to show
case the game to maximize the appeal to the potential
target market.
So, I am afraid your theory of Blizzard showing the worse
part of the game just doesn't hold up, because
Blizzard is not forced to rush the presentation, and
are in the position to take advantage of huge cash
and no pressing deadlines and as such it simply wouldn't
make sense.
And just by looking at the game graphically, it's just
miles behind KuF. Mind you KuF is released for the
crap box 360 which uses outdated 7800GTX series card,
and mesely 256 megabytes of RAM. Worse than most
mid - range PC's of today.
so it's not even that advanced graphics, just design
decisions and clever usage of light normal maps and
excellent armor design. And not trying to pinch a few
polygons and make fingers look square and hair like a
solit piece of triangles, and adhering to the
"Oversized shoulderpads with spikes" design theory of WoW.
What the hell are you talking about? That's not what I said at all... Here's what I said:
Blizzard revamps and alters their games all the time. Look at SC2 when it was announced and look at it now. Not to mention the game will obviously progress overtime and come by changes naturally... So this isn't at all close to their finished product.
Seriously, you're not arguing anything sensible now, only that YOU don't like the art direction.
After Diablo 2 I played WoW alot
and procceeded to raid heavily, so
I was expecting the dosage of realistic
dark gory fantasy from Diablo, as a change from
WoW's caroonishness.
So, you must understand, I don't want just "any"
Diablo 3. WoW keeps me entertained for now.
If Diablo 3 expects me to give up WoW for it
it has to offer something drastically different in
terms of athmosphere, graphics, and overall "feel" of the game.
I'm constantly looking at pictures, movies, Youtube,
and various sources trying to "picture" in my head
what Diablo franchise should be.
Jesus, do you ever just let your text get to the other side of the box?
Frankly Blizzard can't cater to everyone, and the design choices are indeed new and creative. They have time to do more things, or even redo certain aspects. You'll either like it or you won't...
OR... You could play the game and realize that judging from THE EARLIEST footage received is pointless. Especially in the case of Blizzard.
