posted a message on A fun thought about D3's future end game. SPOILERS
I was reading through some of the Book of Cain and I wondered to myself whether or not we would eventually fight in the High Heavens. I think it would be cool to have a reason to fight with or against Tyrael, Imperius or another warrior angel for whatever reason. I'm not sure if you guys have discussed this already, but does anyone have any thoughts or opinions on this?

posted a message on leap attack/ground stomp fury w/out contact?
Reminds me when I returned to wow at some point and decided to play a prot warrior for cata. For like 60 levels I totally forgot and didn't realize that shield slam actually removed a buff from my targets. The simplified tooltip converted that skill's explanation since you get it at lv 10 nowadays. :)

The good thing was that I was able to turn those off 15 seconds later after going into my options. I hope they have this in D3.

posted a message on Development Article Soon, What's NOT Delaying the Game, Zarhym on "The Big Meeting"
I apologize if this post or several of my former posts make me look like a negative nancy, but i have one question to ask. Zarhym is a diablo 3 community manager, correct? Is he a WoW community manager? Either way, I'm pretty sure he's a CM. Pardon me if I'm wrong in assuming that he is, but if he is, it's my opinion that this guy should be fired.

I honestly hope he helps out a lot with the project behind the scenes, because I haven't seen exactly what he contributes as a community manager. He's rather incompetant. I've mostly seen him trolling or writing walls of text like the ones above. If he knows what kind of fan base he is dealing with, he would know better and say very little in response to legitmate concerns. He should just reply with a few threads and be brief. He should stick to the point. Any of the diablo fan mods could easily do his job and do it in a more professional manner.

It's ok for celebrities to have a little fun with their twitter, but even they know better. Celebrities don't post on twitter for the sole purpose of getting their rocks off on writing pointless walls of text replying to people that want whatever they're selling. This is his actual job. The other Blizzard CM's do a pretty damn good job in comparison. Karune anyone? Remember his endless Q&A's he supplied to the starcraft 2 fanbase before it was released? He was excellent and professional. This Zarhym guy is a complete joke.

At least Bashiok has been somewhat forcoming and honest about the game not being ready yet and i'm not a big Bashiok fan in the first place. He deserves some credit for being professional.

posted a message on Diablo 3 Opening Cinematic
The illustrations were a nice touch and very well done, but honestly. If they rendered actual angels and actual demons, you all would have thought it would have been even more epic. I'm guessing Blizzard wanted her to be dreaming an illustration sequence, but if it was her dreaming about a live action sequence, I would have liked it more. I enjoyed the cropped black soulstone cinematic A LOT more.

Another thing about this opener that makes it fall flat with me is that the D2 opener was just superior in every aspect. Sure, this one didn't have to beat D2's, but it should have come close. D2's opener had characters you could embrace and relate to. The midget waiter was comic relief, the wanderer had the nostalgia and badass factor, the drunks and the skeletons, etc etc. Cain was great and all, but all we have is a girl that doesn't talk too much and a meteor. I kinda feel like Diablo 3 should be emphasizing this meteor more as an actual character. Maybe they should have put more emphasis on it since they decided to go with it and Tristram as the setting. All the meteor is is just an object and a basic hole in the ground. I'm not expected the end of act 1 to be that much more epic. The meteor could just end up being the black soulstone and there will be a boss fight.

When a new expansion first comes out, normals tend to be much harder. During the end of these expansions starting with Wrath, normals tend to allow anyone down all of the content, because of a lack of players in guilds logging on. It's just the way it is. Heroic modes take over as the real raiding content.

posted a message on Coming Soon: Battle.net Balance
I'm pretty sure a lot of people will find this to be anti-climatic. I know I did. I didn't mind other moves Blizzard has done recently, but this leaves a sour taste in my mouth for some reason. Blizzard could have simply taken bigger cuts and some some cuts for Paypal as well, but they are going down another path.

It's just another way for Blizzard to make money while trying to restrict players from cashing-out. They want to keep your money as opposed to giving you complete freedom with the currency. It's also a clever way to get you to spend on WoW time.

If the Diablo economy gets stale at some point, this feature will end up becoming stale as well. Blizzard is just trying to play catch up, because they failed to make Batle.net 2 into something you would actually pay for. Can't say I blame them, but eh.

One upside is that Blizzard will finally be making some of the money for themselves that they have lost to 3rd party sellers in the past. Gold farmers and item websites will finally stop making the money they never deserved in the first place.

posted a message on Simplified Skill Tooltips
This blue post makes me shake my head. Is it really necessary to post about such minor design decisions? They have developed WoW for more than 6 years and have recently introduced simplified tooltips for low level skills. Nobody needed any explanation when they added them in WoW. Players could simply toggle the low level simplified tips on and off. Why didn't they just do this in the first place instead of double guessing themselves? Does it really warrant a blue post instead of a heads up in patch notes?

And about the website detailing every skill in length, that's been standard Blizzard practice for well over 10 years. Its something to appreciate and praise, but not get excited about.

Their job is to make the skills fun. If they succeed in making the skills fun, players will only need a simple description. If they want to go digging for information for the skills they love using, they can go research it. New players or casual players honestly won't care how many points of damage bash will do. They will just keep bashing the bad guys and stare at the enemy's red health bar. Other kinds of players will obsess over the numbers. Those types of players will understand the mechanics of the skills, then go look up the level by level numbers and statistics. Everyone leaves satisfied. Make the skills fun! Focusing your design around tooltips will not make a great game!

They should just get to releasing the game asap. Them nitpicking over easy design decisions is silly and it worries me. I hope the devs are on the same page with themselves at this point.

    Quote from Molster

Paypal would be the only service I would trust tbh.

    Agreed.

I think most people trust paypal. What you don't trust is the nameless group of jerks that try to hack your paypal account.

On a somewhat unrelated note, I never suggest anyone to link their bank account to their paypal. :P If you do, you better be combing through every single bill and statement just in case.

posted a message on Is January 17th still viable?
When a game "goes gold," then you can actually count on a game's release within a month's time. A game can't be produced, boxed, and shipped in record time just because you want it to come out very badly. :P. January is not likely.

posted a message on D3 Weak Class System - Blizzard Out of Good Ideas?
Doe, I don't think people replying to this thread understand exactly what you are refering to when you are bashing Diablo 3 classes. I'm assuming your not a big fan of the resource system? Or maybe you feel like D3 classes don't have a distinct feel or playstyle to them? Or do you feel that the classes aren't being designed around one core skill or mechanic? I think you should use examples from other games that are out there or maybe games in development. Maybe compare the barbarian to other fighter classes that are in other games?

posted a message on Blue Posts, Wiki Digest #3
I'm really wondering what the devs are really thinking when they consider MF as a "problem." They shouldn't even be seeing MF as a factor in "doing harm to co op." There's a very simple solution to any MF issues.

Make the monsters do more overall damage.

Why is that? Well, because smart players will see MF guys on their team as an asset to their team, by being the guy that increases the chance of better loot dropping. Smart players will also see them as deadweight in damage dealing potential. So... if they make monsters more dangerous, risk and reward will be maintain. You wouldn't consider having a full team of MF equipped players in a difficult area. You may opt to only bring one or two instead.

MMO players don't see healers or CC classes as a "problem". They see them as utility and as tools that benefit the team, while also holding back a raid's damage. If the raid boss poses a significant threat, a team decides on hoe many healers they should bring to a fight, while making sure the raid can bring the deeps!

posted a message on Questions concerning the future of Diablo 3 and the series itself.
In my last post, I really just meant that they would be more likely to make more D3 content or expansions if the new mmo doesn't turn out well or gets cancelled. Leaked schedules didn't really reveal the mmo prematurely. I remember Blizzard employees mentioning how many teams they had working and how big their teams were, shedding light on the mmo project as far back as late 07 or early 08. Hard to remember the exact time.

I think with time and effort, D3's replayability will improve and it will sell plenty of boxes. I do see Blizzard focusing on whatever titles they can encourage more consumer transactions with though. I don't see much potential for microtransactions in a game like SC2, so if they need to flesh out something other than their mmo's, D3 is a decent candidate. Blizzard isn't the type to churn out a game of every franchise every year like their sister companies, so this is just how it's going to be if things stay the same.

posted a message on Questions concerning the future of Diablo 3 and the series itself.
    Quote from Ferret

Not much guessing required for the next year or two, the developer team has already mentioned months, if not already a year ago that an expansion pack has been in a concept phase for a while, with intended addition of two new classes for example. Nothing is ever set in stone, but it certainly makes sense to use the current engine D3 uses for an expac or two before its outdated.

It's hard for me to personally buy into them saying another expansion is in the concept stage. They alluded to having Heart of the Swarm being in a concept stage before SC2's release. After it was released, it was kinda obvious that they didn't put any work into it and blue responses confirmed that. We all kind of knew deep down inside that it would take them at least 18 months and unfortunately maybe even 2 years... or more.

I honestly think Diablo's future will be most affected by the response Blizzard gets out of them releasing details about their secret mmo. They will probably shed light on it by next Blizzcon. My money's on one LoD type expansion and D3 being the end of the franchise.
