posted a message on Paragon 10000!

It's a mess, because the paragon system creates the need for 3 types of leaderboards and we only have one:
    1) The one we have right now - the mixed LB, grind + skill
    2) The one the competitive players want - the skill LB, based purely on skill, with capped paragon and gem levels
    3) The one the paragon lovers want - the grind LB, based purely on paragon level

Wudijo run the last week of the season clearly showed that even the best DH in the world can NOT be rank 1 and overcome the time variable on the mixed LB (case 1). Has wudijo been competing on a case 2) LB he would have reclaimed the rank 1 position again.

I personally don't expect any changes in the paragon system until the next D3 expansion (aka Q3 2017). A lot of time passed since the paragon problem has emerged and the devs didn't show any initiative at all to solve it. It's their game after all. It's their mess also.

@Jalatiphra: I have the whole top 4k, but only for testing purposes, since it uses faster and not completely accurate sorting method. I have no plans to make it public, but if you want to see where you rank, post your btag here/PM and I will check.

All ladders auto-update once every 30 minutes. You can find season/era 4 top 100 in the archive.

Seems like paragon is to stay in its current form until the next D3 expand (aka July 2017), so if anyone with a D3 ranking website is interested to add the no-paragon scores (as clan ZE have done) drop me a PM and I will link you to the source code of the project. Let's show Blizzard that D3 competition matters!

posted a message on How we could put a Stop to Botters from Gaining the Advantage on Legit players

@OP: Even if all botters are banned on regular basis, there is account sharing. As long as you have an uncapped stat (in the current state of the game - paragon levels) directly bound to time spent and giving advantage to the players who raise it, you can't have fair competition. It's simple as that.

If the developers of this game value the competition, they have to solve the paragon problem. The community has presented to them plethora of valid solutions.

If the developers of this game don't value the competition, the players like you are left with a few choices: 1) stop competing, 2) continue to play and somehow measure your performance taking in account the uncapped stats, 3) become a cheater yourself. Again, it's simple as that.

posted a message on Bot banwave?

Looks like a ban wave is coming not only to D3, but to D2 as well (below quote is from 3 hours ago):

We’ve also begun working to improve our cheat-detection and hack-prevention capabilities.

@Thornagol: Well, you can always nofollow the links of members with say 1k posts and below to further discourage this type of activity, but in the end if your forum receives awful many visits the spammer could just use it to receive direct benefit in terms of impressions/clicks and then the moderation is really the only counter. But if you don't want to invest much money in moderation, there are quite a lot auto prevention things that you can set-up to find yourself out of the 99% of the spammer's lists (even of those guys from India lol).

    Quote from Thornagol»

The only way for them to stop 100% of this stuff if for them to require moderation of every post.

Not every post, just the first few on the forum, which contain certain marketing keywords/links is enough. It's quite easy to do actually since 99,9% of the posts who trigger the spam keyword/link filters are actually going to be real spam and the forum loses nothing from not seeing them immediately. But if you want to screw the spammers more this atm is the better way although the forum quality drops, but that's another topic, which I doubt is the case lol.

@wiwh: Here is the formula. If updated or changed, it will be immediately displayed there.

    As of now:
    1) Formula: 900 - PL1[TIME] + 100 * PL1[GR] + 800 * (PL2[MS] / PL1[MS] - 1)
(PL: Player; TIME: Time in seconds; GR: GR level; MS: Total main stat)

    2) Main stat: PL[ITEMS] + 5 * (PL[PARA] * COEF - 800)
(ITEMS: Currently 10000; PARA: Paragon level; COEF: Coefficient)

    3) Coefficient: 0.8 - 5 * (MAX - MIN - 1000) / 12000
(MAX/MIN: Maximum/minimum paragon level from top 10 for the class)

    1) Based on mob health increase per GR level and pylon effects
    2) Based on the main stat calculation from items and paragon
    3) Based on empirical data (varies between 0 and 1.22; bigger coefficient = bigger advantage from paragon)

    Things that could be added/improved:
    - Main stat from items bound to every class per every season/era
    - Coefficient dependent on distribution of main stat vs vitality for specific classes on high GRs
    - Better overall formula for the coefficient
    - Specific gear/gems' levels influencing the calculations

@Justice_One: As far as I know they can buy xp buff equal to that from pools, but it can't stack with pools itself (also if it there was big advantage a Chinese would have been the most efficient paragon grinder and that is not so). So they are legit for the standard leaderboards based on this info. And for the score leaderboards - they are paragon free, remember? Bots/xp buffs give close to zero advantage there.

@wudijo: Yep, it could be eventually done, but as Drahque pointed out, gem levels and gear are left out of the equation atm. But also there is more gain from pylons at the lower tiers and less lag, so these somewhat even out. Don't forget that we can't take something so flawed to its core (ranking system based on paragons) and create something perfect out of it. You have to be a magician to do that lol.

@Kakaru: Hi, Kakaru and welcome to the forums! You spotted well there - scores go well above 7k. But the #100 is always 1. The reason is that I simply display the difference. No need to display 7001 for #100 for example -> it could be just 1 and the scores of the others gets reduced by 7k. Its more reading friendly.

@wudijo: Thanks for the feedback man! Great write up! I knew something was wrong with certain extremes and after reading your post, I checked the math again to discover something overlooked. I have applied this COEF to the main stat ratio, not the paragon itself. Now this is changed and some of your predictions are illustrated with the Chinese guy #5929 going from #4 -> #2 for example.

Thanks again for helping creating meaningful leaderboards! And Merry Christmas everyone!

@horrax1: It was a bug, his time was 887, only 8 applied and the data from api was cut after. The paragon level when the GR clear is made is always taken, don't worry about that.
