No, something doesn't make sense here.

    Official Blizzard Quote:

Set items are now legendaries defined by a set bonus.

So, set items are legendaries that happen to have set bonuses? It's still not clear to me, regardless of how many of these posts I read. Will there be set items that are not legendary?

Every time I hear "Set items are now legendaries defined by a set bonus." it says that all set items are legendaries. Is this correct?
It just means the items, combined with the set bonuses, will be just as good as legendaries. I don't understand whats wrong with it. Its like in WoW where sets are made up of Epic (purple) items. Think of it as a set comprised of unique/legendary-quality items.

I don't think crafted will be a quality, but yea something like that. Although instead of gold/yellow I think rares will be purple. Or at least something will be purple.

Yea they've been described as pretty much the same thing. Or same relative power at least. The name Unique just doesn't really make sense though.

I don't want it to replace having cooperative play with others but i hope they do something interesting with it cause its going in the game no matter what the majority of the poll says.
I don't think he meant that it would replace cooperative play, but if you need someone to tank, they will have options that are good at it instead of dying as quickly as other followers (or hirelings in D2). There would probably be a trade off where the tanking follower deals very little damage.

I seriously doubt they'd remove BoE without implementing some other system that encourages items being taken out of the economy. If no BoE means D3 will need ladder resets, then they'll probably put BoE back in.

I was Platinum during the time I was playing like the first 3 or so months of release, but I haven't played in a while. I would probably be bad now though :P I should probably start playing again.

posted a message on Monk + Wizard = Sexy Time?
It definitely could be effective, but plenty of classes have slowing skills, like the WD's Grasp of the Dead. I could see the Monk doing well with someone who has slows, not just Slow Time.

Well they could have certain armor looks include a cape for certain characters. I could see it being attached to some chest armors, but it definitely doesn't work for most of the characters.

posted a message on This Week's Poll: Followers
A few days ago, we received what seems to be a hint from @Diablo that there will be some form of follower system in DiabloWiki.com - Diablo III Diablo III, and after that DiabloWiki.com - Bashiok Bashiok let us know that followers have been a part of the game since before it was announced:

    Official Blizzard Quote:

We're not quite ready to talk about our approach, but I will say it's something that's been a part of the game since before announcement. We have a very solid direction for them.
However, even though we know followers will be present in the final product, there are still plenty of unanswered questions about the follower system, and you certainly don't have to agree with their implementation. Below is a summary of how hirelings worked in DiabloWiki.com - Diablo II Diablo II and what we know about the follower system in Diablo III.

In Diablo II, there was a different type of hireling for each act, with the exception of Act IV. The first act gave you access to a ranged DiabloWiki.com - Rouge Rouge mercenary after defeating Blood Raven. Once you progressed to Act II you were allowed to enlist the help of a Desert Mercenary. After that, Act III gave you access to the Iron Wolf mercenaries. Without the Lord of Destruction expansion, hirelings could not equip items, did not level up, and were only available during the Act they were bought in, but all of that was changed with the expansion. Lord of Destruction also added a Barbarian mercenary in Act V. Hirelings could be selected from long lists of many different options, for example the Rouge could fire arrows imbued with different elements depending on your selection. However, despite these options the only noticeable differences were between hirelings from different acts.

In Diablo III, the hireling system has gone through an overhaul. They are now called followers, and they have been split up into two different groups. The first type, as seen in the announcement video, are temporary followers.

    Official Blizzard Quote:

As you saw in the demo, if you got the quest where you could rescue the adventurers or their leader, those guys are a light level, where they are just along for the quest or they are just cannon fodder. You can't really control them or have anything to do with them at all.
Clearly these followers clearly aren't full replacements to the hirelings of Diablo II, but they are the only ones that we've seen in action. Temporary followers could surely prove valuable during hard quests or dungeons, but they offer very little in the form of interaction.

The second type of follower seems to be closer to the hirelings we know from Diablo II.

    Official Blizzard Quote:

When you have what we are calling followers, they are the guys you can equip, give them different weapons, you can give them different armor. They will probably have some quests that involve them. Much more than in Diablo II, you could equip them but they were more like a game mechanic in a body of an NPC. Where this time, were making them much more individuals with their own back story and their own reason for being in the world.

[There will be different types to hire but this time they will be] much more specific. They were very interchangeable in Diablo II, they just had different skills. These ones are going to be much more geared toward certain gameplay types you'd say. Depending on how you play your class...I might be a barbarian, so I don't want another tank, I want a range or, I might want another tank.
Clearly Blizzard has ideas for a more expanded system than what we saw in Diablo II, and hopefully there will be good backstories to go along with these more permanent followers. As Boyarsky explains, these followers seem to be something of a replacement for another player at your side. From this description, it seems as if they are capable of filling in as a tank for a character that has to avoid damage, and the choices will go beyond small skill changes. However, it should be noted that these quotes are from 2009, and as a result the system could have changed by the time it is revealed, but as of now it is the only information we have on followers.

So now that you know how hirelings worked in Diablo II, and how they are expected to work in Diablo III, which system do you like more? Would you like Diablo III to feature a system similar to the previous game? Do you just want temporary followers, or do you not want followers in Diablo III at all? Vote in the poll above and express your opinion in the topic below

Last week's poll was essentially a split decision between people who will strike a balance between PvE and PvP (29%), those who will PvP once in a while (27%), and the most popular choice was "Maybe once I'm done with PvE" (31%). If you would still like to vote in that poll, or just want to talk about PvP, head over to the thread in the link above.

Bugs should not and, in my opinion, will not determine how long the beta lasts.

After all, what are patches for? ;)
Well you don't want the game to be broken. If you have a buggy start it can kill a game's community from the beginning, and Blizzard isn't one to release a game thats not polished. That being said, considering they gave themselves a 6 month window I think they'll have plenty of time to fix any bugs.

As for all the people saying "I hope this home stretch isn't like SC2," keep in mind that SC2 was delayed by B.net 2.0, which was something the SC2 team didn't have that much control over, so when they were talking about their home stretch they probably weren't taking B.net into account. Fortunately thats something the D3 team doesn't have to worry about.

I'm not sure how they're going to tie in bartering, but I was imaging something along the lines of being able to message or PM the seller right from the auction house to indicate interest. This happened a lot in WoW from my experience, especially when players could not afford those Epic BoE's but had a ton of farmed inventory they were willing to trade.
Yea, while reading the article I pretty much came to the conclusion that bartering will still be there, but I don't see how it would really work in an Auction House system. Unless they have something like 'I would take any of these 5 items.' Which I just don't see working as well as a gold based AH. My bet is that bartering will be handled more through a trade window, but that would also make it so that using the AH would be considerably more common unless you don't need to be in a game with someone in order to open a trade window with them.

Yea I would say my one reservation about this game is the emphasis on vehicles, but apparently the racing is inspired by Burnout, so if its anything like Burnout with guns it'll be pretty amazing.

If you zoomed in that much in Diablo, you'd probably end up getting lost. Not to mention it would be nearly impossible to move in certain directions. I would much rather a window for character viewing than a zoom function, but thats just me.

And, again, it seems to be a play on 'Bounty Hunter' as opposed to just adding a word to Hunter. She has a whole lot of gadgets and tricks up her sleeve, all of which are focused around killing demons in various ways. Its like the Boba Fett of Sanctuary.
