    Haha, Final Fantasy XI is pretty brutal. Levelling down and all that. And the events are insanely tough. Though, it is 90% PvE, and most people don't like that in the US. I personally don't enjoy PvP, but meh.

    That's fair. I meant to say I'm not sure why people complain about WoW's "cartoony graphics" like they are somehow drastically different from other Warcraft games. Though it seems you have more issues with WoW's fanbase and popularity than the actual game itself.

    I seriously doubt they will cartoon it up. Warcraft has always been fairly cartoony, which is why it confuses me when people complain about WoW.

    I do think D3 will be 3D, though. They've had a lot of job postings recently for 3D artists. Though, it may be a 3D-pseudo-2D type thing like Warcraft3.

    I do have an old trailer of Pax on my WC2 cd... they made that for Pax. :P

    Does it have any semblance of that rune in there? I'm not trying to be sarcastic, I'm genuinely interested. If it does, it leads more credence to the Pax theory. Otherwise, I'm still highly skeptical that they'd put a rune representing the cover that they didn't draw of a game they didn't make.

    I see the pattern. However, Pax Imperia isn't a Blizzard franchise in the slightest. It was a game they were sort of making that they didn't end up doing. They would have been much better off putting something from Blackthorne or Rock and Roll Racing - they actually MADE those games. They had not too much to do with the final version of Pax, and even less to do with the cover.

    The Pax Imperia thing is heavily disputed, especially since they didn't end up having much to do with the game. Some people think it's an Arcane Sanctum, some think it has something to do with a new Battle.net type thing.

    So you arbitrarily decide whether you want to number the letters from front to back or back to front, and arbitrarily decide which number goes with which word? That sounds pretty farfetched to me.

    Yes the splash image is not the same picture as the lich king...but you know it could be another picture of him. Blizzard have been known to redraw main characters (e.g. Illidan) making them look different for WoW than they have in WC3. That is, at least, what I feel the main picture is of. Looking at it from a marketing sense that to me is what they are trying to advertise. WotLK is due out soon and they want to use this event to promote it, and the first thing any uniformed wow person is going to see when they check out news from this event is that splash image. They aren't going to see it and think "hey, maybe that guy in the picture there is from ANOTHER game!"

    Granted, it could be argued that blizzard knows this and is just using the lich king as a front (for the uninformed) while provided clues to another game at the same time. And I do believe they are. The announcement that they are going to reveal a new game is evidence enough to warrant that being true. So the question on all of our minds is what is the new game?

    So far, the clues pointed out in this thread are imo little evidence of Diablo 3. In fact, they could be taken as indicators to other games like The Lost Vikings. Sadly, no real reason to believe Diablo 3 is going to be announced exists yet...or is there?

    Now, this is just speculation, but looking at the bigger picture another game is set to be released in the near future that could threaten blizzard's market-share IF successful. This game is one actually made by former Blizzard employees, and looks remarkably similar to Diablo. The game is Mythos, and it seems to be gaining a lot of praise from those who have played it. A real threat indeed, should everyone go to this game to get their Diablo fix on.

    Timing is key, especially in the gaming industry, and the announcement of Diablo III couldn't be timed more perfectly. Mythos is gearing up to open it's beta to the masses right around now, and a major announcement like Diablo III would be like dropping a bomb on their project. It would steal a large portion of their prospective audience's interest. This tactic has already proven successful in the past, when Sony used the announcement of the PS2 to stamp out the Dreamcast. To me, announcing Diablo III here and now makes perfect sense, if only for this reason alone.

    Like I said, this is just speculation on my behalf. Though I have been following the industry for years and I tend to be able to predict things with a fair amount of accuracy. So take that for what you will. I'll leave you with just one final thought, Dictionary's word of the day happens to be: harbinger.


    I consider myself an avid gamer (though, I will admit, not a huge follower of PC games beyond stuff like Fallout 3, Spore, etc.), and I've never even HEARD of Mythos. I doubt Bilzzard is all that threatened by them. They know hordes on fans will flock to whatever game they make.

    Except you can't. d3-d6 (and war4, oddly enough) were the ones that worked and were titled. Furthermore, the Diablo III General Discussion board was IN the pulldown menu.

    It cannot be Diablo 3 if its a mmorpg

    If they want to make Diablo3 it will have to be an apple, not a painted orange

    Final Fantasy XI was an MMORPG, while none of the previous Final Fantasy numbered games were anything but single player games.

    For the few stragglers that keep mentioning it, the Valenzetti Equation is NOT REAL. It is fictional, invented for the TV show "LOST." They ARE the Lost numbers. Notice that the article you people keep linking to is on LOSTPEDIA for god's sake.

    That being said, I'm very excited for D3!

    Yes, it definitely says Diablo IV General Discussion if you go to the d4-gen page. This could be a forum algorithm problem -- but that doesn't AT ALL explain why Diablo III appeared in the forum dropdown list.
