posted a message on I hope Diablo III is better than Diablo II
Your description of the skill tree is accurate with the exception that you say there wasn't diversity, I saw all kinds of chars running around d2 and there was a huge variety in builds. I would go so far as to say that the skill building style of character is one of the core elements of diablo 2.

You talk about having to research builds and remake chars to experiment with skills with disdain but I personally believe experimenting with new builds is part of what has kept d2 going for so long. People love to try and build new specialized builds, even to build characters that revolve around certain special items. Many of the people who are still playing diablo 8 years later are the people who sit up all night on forums obsessing about their buiild and that is what they love about the game.

A sub class system would fundamentally change the game. To me a sub class implies restricting abilities to things "appropriate" to the sub class and then specializing based on that. To me this offers less options. If someone wants to max the level 1 ability in one tree and the top end ability in a completely different tree they should be able to and it just might even work. There are some pretty weird builds in d2 that work just fine.

As far as fear of ruining your char because you don't know what your doing, they did say they wanted people to be able to respec which imo is a much better option but it needs to be handled carefully or it willl really throw off the long term replayablity of the game.

As far as classes being weak at low levels, to me that is a huge bonus, I love it when a game uses the idea of a character starting out weak and difficult to play but ending up super powerful in return at the end game. It is a trade off. I want to be able to mess up my char by picking the wrong skills. Picking skills is just as much a part of the game as hacking up monsters. It adds an element of strategy to the game and it is no fun if there is no possibility that you will fail.
D2 did have some problems and I am sure blizzard is keenly aware of that. I disagree that the skill tree (at least in the way you are saying) was one of them though.

That said, I also hope d3 is better than d2, seriously, who wouldn't want it to be better. "Hey, you wanna play a game better than your favorite game of all time?" who is going to answer that question with a no?

I really disagree with this. Perhaps list some things that you think are similar.

posted a message on Act 4 Corrupted Tyrael End Boss
What I see is an angel that resembles Tyrael transforming into something. Maybe its a super duper good angel.
Maybe it isn't even Tyrael, he isn't the only angel.
I highly doubt Tyrael gets corrupted in the story line because that image is there. There is no way they would even hint at a major plot twist like that on the very first day the game is announced.

posted a message on Day/night cycle.
A day night cycle would be nice. Maybe it would be a good compromise between people who want the game to be extremely dark and those who don't. For all we know this is already in the works and we just didn't get to see night time.

posted a message on Will Diablo be the final boss again
Well the game is diablo 3, so what the boss should really be is diablo and his 2 clones. Right?

Seriously though I am sure Diablo will make an appearance and it will be awesome but I am not fixed on the idea of him being the final boss. I am sure whoever the final boss is will be very relevant to the story line and just as epic as killing diablo or baal ever was.

posted a message on D3 Graphics. Where's the love?!
I never played d2 for the graphics. I think the graphics are fine, certainly enough to make the game very playable. There is room for improvement but I highly doubt it is priority #1.

    Christmas. If only..

I am more interested in them taking their time to perfect the game than the release date though.

Judge your touch up is nice. The OP pics are far too dark and murky. I agree some dungeon areas should be very dark and it should be hard to see anything outside the light radius but I do think there should be some brighter areas too and more diversity in the environment. Just taking out the color does not improve the problem. I think the problem right now is mainly the textures need to be a little sharper.

posted a message on Paladins in D3 - picture proof...
It seems highly unlikely to me that blizzard will ever accidentally release major info like the inclusion of a class through an over site like a screen shot.
Maybe they are hirelings, maybe they are soldiers helping on a quest, maybe they are summoned pets. I could go on but I'll stop now.

I definitely expect to see diablo again and possibly baal. I would not expect to see duriel and especially not andarial again.

posted a message on Thousands in each server or max 8 people per game?
Thousands per server doesn't mean what some people think. It means that when you log on you won't have to choose "uswest" or "useast" it will all be one big "server".
I hope they keep the current battle net style of gaming but perhaps add a graphical interface for the chat area. Not wow style but expanding on the current battlenet style of having the chars showing at the bottom of the screen.

posted a message on PvP ideas: Dueling/Betting
Even if the only idea from here implemented was the betting that would be awesome. I dunno if I would go so far as to ask for special pvp areas or anything but a few little nods to pvp would be cool.

posted a message on Φ Graphics Discussion (New art style proposal to Blizzard)
While I really like the overall look feel of the game even as is I do agree that it could be improved on with these suggestions, nothing huge but more detailed art and lighting changes would go a long way. I do NOT agree with some people who want to make it into this dark tiny game, that doesn't make use of colors or a variety of environments.
I would be perfectly happy if it shipped as is but I do think improvements are possible. I really liked the gamestop video and it seemed like they are getting it right with his comment about making the game dark by setting the mood not by turning down the brightness.

I would rather have 5 classes with very diverse skill trees than 10 classes that can only be built one way.

posted a message on So... the other 3 classes?
Shapeshifter seems likely, it also seems likely to me that at least on char type will be able to do something "trappish". I definately think the paladin will be making an appearance and a sorc like char.
