I like how someone started spreading the lie that there will be no more waypoints in the game and then a bunch of people started crying about it.

    Love it.

Don't know where it says anywhere in this thread that this is going to be the skill tree for all time.
The thread title says 'Released today', as if it is up to that fansite to 'release' anything relating to the game, implying that Blizzard released something since it is only them who can 'release' something like this.

The 'calculator' only shows a fraction of currently known skills, the icons are largely wrong, the progression is wrong, point caps are wrong, and statistics are nowhere near official (since they are not decided upon). So I don't see what's all the fuss about? It is not even a precise replica (nowhere near it) of the rough ideas Blizzard is currently working on, if that's what it was aiming for.

Paladin was my least favorite class in D2. The single class that I liked absolutely nothing about. However, I believe that too many people have played D2 just because of the Paladin class, literally, for Blizzard to ignore the concept completely in D3.

I am almost certain that the class will return in one form or the other. What I am completely certain, is that if it does return in some form, it will be much better, and improved upon.

If you ask me, WC3 is probably the weakest game Blizzard made.

Also, the opportunity to make WC4 is not ruined. In fact they mentioned releasing WC4 so it seems to be happening.

Also, WoW is one of the greatest games of all time. If that ruined Blizzard.... Yeah. Money. Imagine if Blizzard didn't have money. They would have to resort to rehashing the WC franchise in every possible direction since WoW is their best seller. Like how LucasArts turned into a Starwars game factory. Be happy that they have the money to hire a dedicated team to make D3...

Yes I was serious, and no, Mass Effect is not an RPG.

That's not an insult, so please don't feel butt-hurt. You know, not all good games have to be RPGs?

You don't aim in RPG games, and combat is not based on player's reflexes. And you don't assume roles that affect the story in D2. End of story. It's not an RPG.

Selecting your skills and leveling up is just something that D2 has in common with some RPG games. Those elements are not even what defines an RPG game, so it's even wrong to call them 'RPG elements'. They can be found in some RTS games and you don't call them RPGs?

P.S. Doppelganger, WoW meets all the definitions of an RPG that you listed, so I don't see how it is not an RPG.

posted a message on Locations of D3 ?
Act 2 is almost certainly going to be a desert scenario, judging by an entry from the bestiary (and because the entry was made and released just as the art team was said to be moving to Act 2).

Act 3 might be something close to D2's Act 3 judging by a concept piece, and when it was released (and looking at a natural progression through the map of Sanctuary) but this is not certain at all.

Act 4 is likely going to revolve around steeps and mountains (judging from the artwork) and will most likely take you to the Arreat crater. And from there, hell.

This is just speculation. I'm only certain that Act 2 will be equivalent in setting to D2's Act 2, though it also remains to be seen in about five months.

To relate to the OP's second concern, since nobody seems to care:

The Cube will not return in D3. (at least in no form similar to the Cube in D2. don't expect a quest item granting additional inventory slots - it's not going to happen)

Was that all added in WotLK? I honestly had no idea it even added sequences. Are those similar to cutscenes or something? Or is it a string of quests.
Long quest chains, visiting old locations and witnessing things of the past (like a live action cutscene), phasing (entire areas changing in epic proportions just for the player that finished certain quests). For example you get to see the scene with Arthas and Muradin in the Frostmourne cave, and learn something groundbreaking that you didn't see in WC3, or kill yourself temporarily and talk with the abandoned spirits on the island where Arthas left them in that one mission where he had his mercenaries sink the ships. The content is jam-packed with that type of quests. You don't go around collecting 10 boar tails as some people would have you think.

    Quote from "Magistrate" »
Hm... Maybe I'm just misinterpreting what you said, but you did say that quests is how people level up in WoW. If so, than aren't they integral, and not a small part?
You level up from 70 to 80 in a week. In Diablo, you level constantly, that's all you do.

    Quote from "Magistrate" »
I was thinking by "randomized" they meant an endless array of cookie-cutter quests that randomly appear.
Probably a mix of both. They said they are reimplementing the feature from D1. Basically, a set of quests either spawned or didn't spawn when you started playing D1 again. In multiplayer terms, it probably means that when you host a game, a random factor decides which quests that are not essential to the main storyline ones will be spawned. It's just that we expect the scope and variety of random quests to be larger, and made better with the fact that monsters and small events are also completely random (in D2, you always knew where to find which monster, but not like it made a difference either).

Depends how you view grinding. When you do as many quests as you do in an MMO, they all begin to repeat their missions over and over again. Go kill this monster, go kill this monster so many times, give this item to this person, find this thing.
To be honest, WoW's quest pre-TBC and in TBC were like that. But I have to say that WoTLK quests (content designed for leveling from 70 to 80) is actually pretty damn amazing. It had almost no repetition, and it was heavily involving with a lot of great sequences, and a lot of lore being fed to the player in a very enjoyable manner. Everything from large-scale events to detailed re-enactments of WC3 sequences.

    Quote from "Magistrate" »
However, like I said, with Diablo III, they're mixing this typical feature of MMO's with Diablo's ARPG structure. Random quests will in all honesty function the same way.- redundant quest basics being rehashed over and over again, like in an MMO.
Yes, but questing is a big part of Diablo, and pretty much everyone argues that it's not about reaching a certain goal, but going there, and replaying that. In MMO's (at least in WoW) questing is the smallest part of the game. They're basically a tutorial that prepares the player for real content.

EDIT: Oh, and random quests in D3 (from single-player perspective) are nothing different in concept than D1 random quests. But I really can't think of them as a bad thing. Sure, it might get boring, but how do those set 27 quests in D2 don't?

Yeah I checked on it, but it's only given to those who killed Uber Diablo and it just one item. It doesn't really go in the same league as a regular modifier.
I know. But see, that's the whole point. If certain (only useful for progression) blue items that drop in D3 have it as a modifier, I see don't see it as a harm. It may be a nice boost to someone who finds it, and decides to use it.

Transformation to a MMO also leads to the destruction of the grind. The MMO grind (which I hate) and the Diablo grind (which is quite enjoyable) cannot be compared or confused.
What the hell is MMO grind? You level in Diablo by constantly killing monsters that give you most EXP. In MMO's, the best source of EXP is doing quests, and quests constantly make you go to different places and kill different things.

Getting items in D2 means grinding the same boss 200 times a day. Getting items in WoW means being good enough to progress through a dungeon and kill some bosses once a week. I'm the most successful Warlock on the server I play at the moment, and I literally log into the game three times a week. And I never have to grind gold or whatever. By the time current content becomes boring, new patch will already be out, with new dungeons and bosses and challenges.

D2 is nothing but pure grind. WoW currently has zero grind content. Zero.
