They will most definitely announce the 4th class this Blizzcon. Then they have the next year's WWI to announce the 5th class, and Blizzcon '10 for the release date (if we are really lucky, and they hurry up, which they probably won't as they never do).

posted a message on Who else thinks gold should be worth something in D3?
    Quote from "pwnsickle" »
I think the reason that gold works so well in the economy of WoW is because characters have professions, and they create things that other players need to buy. Just like in real life, you create things and get money for it. On top of this they have items people find.

In diablo II, you have no professions, so items are being traded for.... other items, there was no use for gold if you were just going to use it to buy other items. I am NOT saying that diablo three needs professions, just wondering if anyone thinks this is why gold works so well with WoW but not so much for Diablo II.
    1) Because you don't trade useful gear in WoW (rather consumables and things that help you upgrade your gear which you are constantly in the need of because you constantly change your gear)
    2) Because of the soulbinding system (so that items cannot be used, reused, and then resold, inflating the economy and giving gold-grinders useful things that they don't deserve)
    3) Because spending gold is necessary (if nothing else, then on repairs) so it has a value. Gold sinks that you have to spend in = valuable gold.

That sums it up. Has nothing to do with professions directly, as you suggested.

More importantly: no need for a common currency!
A common currency makes mid-level and low-level items viable on the market, instead of just the most high end items. So I don't see why you would be so eager to dismiss a common currency as something bad.

Why not? Because I like knowing where to go to do what. That makes you open up a game with a set goal in mind, accomplish that goal, then do something else.
    Like this?

"Okay, I'm going to open up the game today and do another 200 Baal runs."

Exciting! Except that I don't feel like opening the game to do something obnoxiously repetitive and mindless.

I have to ask, who told you that? Especially since there hasn't been a decided death mechanic.
Jay Wilson said that's how it works now. The quote that says that it's not yet decided predates that. They haven't confirmed a gold or durability loss. I just said that a durability loss is the best possible death penalty and I hope they go for it.

They didn't wait to see the reception for WoW before they designed the five expansions for it. We've only seen two of them, and they haven't changed a bit from the original plan.

Durability loss is the best possible death penalty there is. By far.

It costs gold, but it doesn't directly subtract from your inventory. It costs more the better your gear is, so it scales with your progress in the game. And, it prevents you from being able to rush into your death for as long as your gold pool doesn't run out: at one point you will have to save&exit, and make a new game to repair in town (since you can't just TP out of a dungeon whenever you please).

That will make you think twice before dying.

No, Daemaro, when you die, you continue from the last checkpoint with very little health. To get more health you need to get back to combat and get health globes.

Or use a potion if there is no other option, I suppose.

There might not be an open beta of D3 at all. And the earliest I think they could roughly finish all four acts and have all five classes playable in the game is early 2010. And they take at least 1 year of iteration on every bit of content. So don't expect D3 to be out anytime sooner than late 2010, and that's if Blizzard rushes it like they haven't done with any other of their games.

Yes, but WoW isn't even half as important as Diablo 3.

    "Diablo3 > WoW" for around 10000 times.
Which means they will take extra time to make sure it's perfect.

They confirmed three difficulty modes for D3, being: Normal, Nightmare and Hell.

They said that this might be subject to some change (as everything else) but they have no plans to change it at this point.

They most definitely had the lore before the first WoW game was made. There's empirical proof for that.

I bet they already have design documents and an exact amount of expansions planned for D3 at this point as well.

posted a message on Diablo 3 Skill Calculator Released today
"Skills' in WoW are purchased from a trainer. You don't learn skills from the talent tree (with a very few exceptions). At the level cap, you already have all the skills your class can use. Talents only modify your skills so that their utilization is different and so that you can perform your role better (which can be one of the three specializations or some hybrid form). You only learn one or two skills tops from each talent tree.

In Diablo, there are no talents (the only skill modification system we know of so far are skill runes). There are only skills and you learn them directly from the skill trees. The system is exactly the same as in D2, except that it visually may remind people of WoW because of the coloured icons. Which are a standard for that type of games these days. Nothing 'WoWish' about it. The only difference is that skills won't all have the same cap (which was a really stupid thing about D2) and that instead of level requirements, they have a requirement of points spent in a skill tree, so that you can't just hold out until you get a high level and then snag all the skills from the bottom of each tree. Instead, they are forced to make more interesting and useful low-end skills as well as high-end skills, and make you want to spend your points in a tree or two, to make a meaningful build.

People who argue that ANYTHING about skills in D2 is similar to WoW talents is more ridiculous than arguing that Diablo 2 is too much like *insert any RPG game here*, for abandoning the system from D1 where you learned skills by reading randomly found books. Things change slightly from a sequel to sequel, you know? Except that D3 system is almost identical to D2 system and changed only slightly compared to the change that occured from D1 to D2.

Yeah, because it's so unreasonable to be unhappy about the possibility that tps and wps will both be nerfed.
About a possibility? Yes please! Let's stress about EVERY possibility of ANYTHING that might happen in D3. Except the one about waypoints, of course, since their implementation in D3 has been confirmed by the devs.

I was just pointing out that there's a thread of cryposts based on an uninformed assumption presented as a fact. But please, be my guest and make some more WoW references in a derogatory manner if that makes you 'happy' about the unexisting possibility of wps being 'nerfed'.

They nerfed the TPs, and now if they nerf WPs, what's next? Nerfing my 640x480 resolution and nerfing my baalrun-grindfests? Oh god!
