The Wizard?
Holy shit! Who would have figured that?
Joining the previously revealed classes of the Barbarian and the new Witch Doctor, the Wizard is a powerful spellcaster said to manipulate the powers of the elements.
The Wizard is reminiscent of the Sorceress class from Diablo II, and comes equipped with Charged Bolt and Magic Missile spells.
Other spells known to the Sorceress, such as the Frost Nova, Tornado and Blizzard make a strong return in the newly minted Wizard.
Each of the three announced classes, the Wizard, Barbarian and Witch Doctor are playable in both male and female forms. In the demo, the male Wizard is unavailable.
The demo has the player making his or her way through the dense foliage of Tristram Woods into the Tristram Church Dungeon.
More information will be posted within this thread as it becomes available!

Oct 10, 2008Sol_Invictus posted a message on Playable Diablo 3 Demo At Blizzcon 2008! Plus, A New Character To Be Revealed!I have set up an IRC chat channel for live discussion on BlizzCon 2008 on the GlobalGamers IRC network. The channel on GameSurge is being spammed non-stop by the advertisement bots, so I've decided to move away from there.Posted in: News
To connect to the IRC just go here.
If you prefer, you can also direct your mIRC, HydraIRC, Trillian or another IRC client to the following address:
Server: irc.globalgamers.net
Port: 6667
Channel: #diablo3
3 guys from Hellforge/Gameriot's staff are participating in BlizzCon to cover Diablo 3, so hopefully I'll be able to get some live blogging from them.
Also, one of my friends will be in the IRC doing live updates, because he hacked his iphone to put IRC in it -

Oct 9, 2008Sol_Invictus posted a message on Diablo III Journals: A Nostalgic Return to TristramPosted in: NewsQuote from "Enigma1" »I loved that jornal you put in there, it really is in the "Diablo" style. I can't wait to hear more from Sebastian Gray. One thing caught my mind though, when you said, "I'm currently resting at the Rising Sun Inn, which looks like the only building that managed to survive in the wake of the dark hero's passing". It confused me, I thought the Rising Sun Inn was destroyed in Diablo II when you returned to Tristram.
Thanks!
Possible flub there with the Rising Sun Inn. The official site does mention that the only building standing is an Inn, which might actually be a new inn built upon the old site of the Rising Sun Inn. I'm sure we'll find out more about it later. -

"FUCK!! THIS IS AMAZING!!!" (thats the literal translation to english...)
That was exactly my reaction. I said, "Wow, fuck Crusader: No Remorse. This is 100 times better! MOUSE CONTROLS HOLY CRAP." -

I took my name from the god of the Romans, which is the same source from which Akhenaton derived their album's title.
It was a novel idea a decade ago but it's just bad now. They tried to implement it into Titan Quest and it was annoying there. In Hellgate: London it was a nightmare to deal with the 'tetris' inventory. I'm glad Blizzard is moving away from it towards a better interface with unique artwork.I actually liked the D2 Inventory system. It was annoying to manage at times, but I think that was part of the fun. -

Oct 4, 2008Sol_Invictus posted a message on BlizzCon - Pick the Best Diablofans QuestionsI liked a lot of Basekick's questions. Here are my choices, not listed in any order.Posted in: News
- Dimebog - #33
What are you currently planning for the new crafting system?
- Veltras - #4
Is item trading going to be improved upon? Will there be "market" games, in which players can set up a shop to display their items, and browse other shops?
- USNSEALs - #31
In Diablo II, if you took the time to really enjoy every detail, playing it the second time around, there was a feel of 'I know what to do next. I remember this guy was here, I know I have to do this to get to this.' It didn't even take 3 or 4 completions. How is Diablo III going to improve upon that if at all?
::: You know, I'm pretty sure the answer's going to be "Our open areas will solve that with their somewhat randomized, but prefabricated locations" but I'd like to hear them say it anyway :::
- basekick - #8
Will there be Magic Find in Diablo III, if so, how will it be different/similar? If not, how will the dropping of super rare items be dictated?
- hiDDen - #26
Are companions going to have skills like the player?
- basekick - #8
Are we going to see the same types of loot (i.e. normal, magical, ethereal, rare, set, unique)?
- AcidReign - #14
Is there any interest to stop players from "rushing" others through the Acts in Diablo III? (Online)
- Jster - #101
Will there be team PvP?
- jwest88 - #53
Are lower level skills still going to be useful when we have higher level skills later on in the game? Or will we feel like we need to save our skill points for higher level skills?
-basekick - #8
1. How similar will the skill tree be to Diablo 2? For example, will all characters be using Mana to cast our spells? Will we be having the same progression-type skill tree as in Diablo 2? And will synergies make a return? -
Sep 26, 2008Sol_Invictus posted a message on Sexuality and Gender in Diablo III: Beauty or Brawn?I've known a few girls in World of Warcraft who played as male characters in order to simply play the game as normal players do (e.g. raid and PVP) and not get sidetracked by the guys who try to hit on them for having a female character or get benefits (e.g. free stuff) just for being girls.Posted in: News
But I've also known girls who played female characters because they wanted people to know that they were female.
It really comes down to individual preference, and the article makes a pretty good attempt to draw out some of the archetypes. -
Sep 26, 2008Sol_Invictus posted a message on Sexuality and Gender in Diablo III: Beauty or Brawn?I'll be playing a male character for the whole 'protector' aspect. It's fun to take care of other players with an armored knight guy.Posted in: News

Sep 25, 2008Sol_Invictus posted a message on Sexuality and Gender in Diablo III: Beauty or Brawn?I don't understand the hate. It's no N'Gai Croal, but it's certainly no 'worse' than the stuff Brian Crescente writes over at Kotaku. It's mostly funny, jock type humor. And maybe some people don't get that, but that really comes down to personal preference.Posted in: News
Besides, last I checked, we're fans of the game and we cover interesting articles that spur discussion.
Many people make the choice of their gender in games an important issue, especially during character creation. There are a myriad of reasons behind this, and while some people just don't care, the millions of people who play World of Warcraft or any other game with a gender choice in it do so for reasons that can range from something as simple as preferring the armor on a male character to something as psychologically complex (relatively speaking) as pretending to be a female to get preferential treatment from other players. -

Starcraft's "No Matter The Cost" is fantastic, as is The Eternal Conflict (Tristram theme song redux).
I'll be framing those art cards and hanging them on my wall in artsy fartsy fashion for sure.

The fully orchestrated music on the two CDs pay tribute to titles such as Warcraft, Diablo and Starcraft, as well as music based on the new Starcraft II, WOW: Wrath of the Lich King and Diablo III. One of the new Diablo III tracks features a special composition by the critically acclaimed Kō Ōtani, who is most well known for his soundtrack to Shadow of the Colossus, as well as many anime series.
There will be two editions of the package. The standard edition, which will come with just the music CDs and will cost US $29.95 and a Legendary Edition for US $49.95. The Legendary edition will be a limited offer and will feature a making of DVD as well as 9 art cards based on the games as can be seen below.
The tracklist is as follows:
The Legendary Edition will be released on the 1st of November, the Standard Edition on the 22nd of November, and both editions can be pre-ordered currently on the Eminence website.
Rock on, Diablo Fans! I just placed an order for the Legendary Edition, which will only have a single limited production run. FYI, I'm pretty hyped about this.

The "people" who went on to create Flagship Studios were the founders of Blizzard North, which includes the guys who actually created Diablo in the first place before anyone else was there. They weren't just some random QA dudes.
I'm pretty sure the Lead Designer, Lead Art Direction and Lead Programmer matter more than 10 QA guys or 3d modelers in developing the gameplay. That's not to say that the QA people and 3d modelers don't matter, but the core of the game is based on what the aforementioned people come up with and what the rest of the team works on.

Likewise, a Barbarian who uses his leap to get behind their defenses would be more effective than the Barbarian who opted to bash his way through. He'd sustain too much damage doing something like that.

Blizzard North had a bad habit in Diablo II of implementing changes nobody asked for, not listening to player feedback (IT'S JUST A VOCAL MINORITY OMG!) and making nerfs where none were needed.
Cases in point: Extended Durance. Buriza-do-Kyanon being made superpowerful in 1.08 and then even more powerful despite a barrage of complaints in 1.09. The list goes on.
Could probably make a list of 100 worst features if you wanted to.

Here's hoping that current team has learned from the mistakes of Blizzard North, Diablo's original creators (which became the now-defunct Flagship Studios) and listen to their community for it most certainly be watching closely.

Here are the details:

Here's a breakdown of the classes in point by point format. Be sure to check out the rest of the article for further information on the game's interface, character creation, inventory, the skill and rune system, quests and the rest of their experience.

"I don't know how far out it is, but it's still fairly early in development. I think when people see it, it feels so polished and so finished, but the reality is we have a very small portion of the game done right now," Pardo explained.
He added: "A lot of the way we develop is: We wanna make sure the game is really fun and the visual fidelity we want ... we wanna make sure we have a small area that feels really done so we know what to build. So even though it looks really complete a lot of the content is just not there. We have a long ways to go to build each of the different acts in the game and put in all the quests and all the different monsters. We have a lot of development ahead of us before it will be something ... It will definitely be out after StarCraft II."
It looks like we'll be waiting for Diablo III for awhile yet. Let's just pray that Starcraft II comes out within the next few months.
Thanks gyrextt for spotting this in an interview I'd read but kinda skimmed over.
