Blizzard is trying to determine the best design to handle hardcore deaths in a team vs team format. Seeing as your post didn't cover that at all... what's the point of this topic then?

It's gold man!
you go 5x5 Arena (or 3x3) other 9 (5) players die and you get billions of epics, millions of XP and tons of gold.

Part of the idea i think is that D2's offline characters allowed hackers to have a full view of what data is stored for items and what not. D3 everything will be online, when you log out and close the game, you will have zero character/item/inventory data to look at. Also i'm sure it will have the same Warden software that wow uses to help them detect cheats / hacks, not perfect but it all adds up. D3 will not be flawless, there is no such thing as 100% security when dealing with a connected online environment. If you want 100% security, unplug the internet completely.

From the official Diablo 3 Beta F.A.Q. : http://us.blizzard.com/en-us/company/events/diablo3-announcement/index.html#beta:d3-faq
Will the progress I make during the beta test carry over when the game launches?
No, the purpose of the beta test is to ensure that the game and hardware infrastructure are ready to go as soon as possible. The main benefit of participating is being able to be among the first to play the game extensively prior to release. However, everyone will start on equal footing once the game is launched.
