posted a message on Colours Discussion Has Ended! Call a truce?
    Quote from "Siaynoq" »
I'm starting to wonder if there are two groups of people who are critical of all the vibrant colors in D3. Because one group (the one I don't find myself relating to) complain about the colors of the landscapes, environmental effects, and dungeons, etc. These things about the game so far do not really bother me. And I understand what that guy in the game was saying about variety in locations. I think that's an admirable goal.

As for the second group (I find myself in this obviously) is largely okay with the backgrounds, environments, etc. But what bugs us is the look of the armor, weapons, and even a few spells. What I can't stand in video games these days, and I swear it's like in any other game now, is the light tracer effect when a weapon is swung. Every single weapon now seems to glow and has a light tracer on it.

The thing about WoW and Warcraft 3 is that the universe it is set in seems so filled to the brim with magical forces, that even their food glows with a colorful aura. It seems like in Warcraft that magic is never scarce and you could keep a +2 fire damage weapon on fire all day long without this having any depreciating effect on the magic or the degradation of the weapon.

In D1 and D2, when you hit someone with a fire weapon, that's when you see the environmental effect. When you hit someone with a lightning weapon, only upon striking do you see the electrical discharge.

But in WoW, everything seems like it's constantly brimming with magic and elemental forces. So much that it feels like the entire world is going to transcend a corporeal world, and become this ethereal place. And these are the things that bother me about the art direction in Diablo 3. Super glowing objects that never cease, that burn my retinas and make the world of Sanctuary seem more akin to Azeroth and all its other dimensions.

To be honest, they can make all the rainbows, waterfalls (someone is actually complaining about waterfalls?), and tulip fields they want. Those things are realistic. They exist. But even in a world of magic, things like glowing weapons and glowing health and mana orbs scattered about, seem like something that really should be in moderation.

I hope this Keith Lee understands that many of us are more sensible about the colors in Diablo 3. But he does not even mention the way magical weapons and other items appear in the game. Or why he feels there should be light tracers on a simple regular melee weapon. Just watch the gameplay trailer before they upgrade the Barb's weapons. Even then they appear too magical in nature. These are the kinds of aesthetics that bother me about D3. Not the way a sunny day looks outside.

    Agreed.
Totally... I really dislike the abundance of magic really in all games. It makes magic just seem a hell of alot less special. I say, kill the magic effects, limit all item glows and such to very high level/quality items or special instances.

That is how it should be! Sure, give that sexy level 28 sword some slight effects, and maybe some light output, but DON'T make it (as you put it) burn endlessly, or burn our retinas. I think that would make the world feel less fantastical and become easier to relate to real world medieval times etc.

    Thanx blizz.

posted a message on Space Seige demo, and WASD in Diablo3
Damn... I must be retarded or something. (Don't you dare quote me out of context)

It is like I can't even express my opinion properly because you all are making it out differently. /me slaps self!

Ok, this is what I would want as a control system ->
WASD for movement. W and S for back and forward. A and D for strafing left and right.
Then, I am not sure, but options to change the orientation of WASD movement. Perhaps up and down according to the screen, or the character himself.
Then, another option for WASD movement in direction of the cursor. Perhaps that would be more useful... It is diablo 3. The camera doesn't seem like it can rotate so maybe it would be different to other iso rpgs. It is not like I have played it right.

Here is what I have to say about the who accuracy and speed arguement. The reason I want WASD movement (or rather, movement that does not involve me clicking), is so that I can move around freely but still rotate my character and activate spells/abilities toward my cursor. So it is kind of like an shooter in a way, that you are always trying to aim your mouse in the right direction with your right hand. Your left hand is actually micromanaging your abilities and movement.

I would personally map SHIFT+WASD to spells etc. and also ALT+WASD... 12345. Shift+12345 etc.
When I need to perform an ability toggle, I would click to move. Simple.

Or whatever. My opinion. You guys choose for yourself. I <3 to game and I fucking LOVE the PC becuase of the mouse and keyboard. Death to consoles! So, if I have a specific opinion on game controls then I want blizzard to give me that option. If not, too bad for me.

SOME of you guys seem to be crying a lot about COLORS... Seriously?
    Colors < Controls.

You are asking for a isometric/topdown hack & slash to have WASD key movement? Are you insane?
Even hypothetically if, then the game also HAS TO become either FP or crap behind the character viewpoint, WICH WILL THEN STILL need you to use a mouse, not to mention the posibility of having to deal with a CRAP camera, ontop of that garbage -wich asks for a WHOLE LOT MORE of the player just for freaking running around and attacking properly- you are SEVERELY LIMITED in being able to use keys for fast spellselection and such.
This idea is the WORST idea i've ever heard, hell its even more retarded then that other WORST IDEA EVER, namely implementing the Oblivion 1:1 levelscaling system because that could possibly be modded out while this would require a COMPLETE other form of programming the game. Geez...
As for WASD being unheard of "back when" D2 was released/made/whatever, go learn some gaming history please, WASD is older then the freaking invention of the mouse.
Now there is the possibility you are a troll in wich case you fooled atleast me, if its not then you should go play another game because what you want sure as hell aint this game (type).

It seems just about every sentence incorrectly worded is cannonfodder for flamers. What I meant is that WASD in isometric rpgs was unheard of. Space siege is isometric. Please, take a look at the comments in the rockpapershotgun post. Notice how people crave WASD. The only reason I want me some WASD is because if you have played Space Siege, (a game VERY similar to diablo 3, however, with camera rotation) then you would know how painful and frustrating the DEMO is just to enjoy. I dont want that in Diablo 3. My suggestion here was to simply allow for both, and to give the gamers the ability to switch between mouse and WASD movement at will. You can't tell me you wouldn't want to WASD around when your wrist gets tired. I can imagine that if it is possible to map a spell/ability to the right/middle mouse keys, then WASD would be a very efficient way of maneuvering around while using whatever is mapped to your mouse with fast percision because you do not have to move you cursor to move your guy around. Oh, and by the way, Mythos (a very nice diablo clone), that game that got put on hiatus, was experimenting with some sexy WASD controls however still allowing for camera maneuvers. It was a bit messy, but it was in beta, and I was on the test server. It can be done. If blizzard do it, it can be done well. What WOULD make gameplay (PVP especially) in D3 hard would be the lack of WASD. I can just see the retarded movement of toons stopping, casting, then a brief second later they actually then begin to move away. I think with keyboard movement gameplay may be just that much easier and also a noticeable amount faster and less frustrating. Oh, and by the way, while I am defending myself (so many trolls!), I barely ever played WoW for more than a few days. Other MMOs, yes. Such weird stereotypes... I like to consider myself an avid hardcore PC gamer thank you very much little trollings. How many times can you see WASD in my wall of text?

posted a message on Space Seige demo, and WASD in Diablo3
Recently the Space Siege demo was unleashed apon the interwebs, and so gamers downloaded it everywhere. See: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2008/07/30/space-siege-demo-impressions/ One thing very annoying you will almost immediately find in the game annoying is the controls. No WASD. The reason why I am talking about this in D3 forums? D3 needs WASD! If you have played the demo you would know. I can only imagine gameplay in SpaceSiege is similar to D3. Isometric view, hotkeyed skills etc. I know many have already suggested/cried for WASD in D3. The SS demo just shows you how painful your wrist can get. How frustrating it actually is to play. When I remember D2, I can see the same thing, although back then WASD was unheard of. The ultimate control scheme would allow for WASD movement, but not enforcing it. Allowing directional movement to be mapped to any keys, so that mouse movement may be used as in D2, however, WASD could also be used in different situations where you may want to dodge/whatever. Either way, the SS demo has just concerned me. That game is going to suck, and the main reason I can think of is the control scheme. Whats your opinion on WASD controls with D3 and the SS demo?

posted a message on Multiplayer. Which style?
I like the trade post idea though that is awesome!

So, start the game, click B.net, log in and select your lobby room. The game then loads up the engine and throws everything into ram etc.
Now, whenever you join a game, the load time will be significantly lower, therefore saving alot of time.

As for the environment, I would think it would be some kind of arcane sanctuary type deal. You could really expand alot apon this idea. Eg.
    Auction House,
    Mail,
    Account stash,
    Socializing,
    Trading,
    Showing off your gear!,
Finding games and creating games (eg. <NuZZ>[Town] LFG Mephy HELL)

Lawl, I think it would be awesome... I think it would make multiplayer alot more engaging, plus I love the idea of less loadtime, leaving more time to game. Tbh, this lobby area could also have some branches to an infinite quantity of PVP arenas. Someone should make a thread about this idea, so it gets noticed better.

Open world, no, but I like the ingame lobby idea...

lulz. I <3 d3 graphics. I kind also wish these people would stop crying about it. It is not really that big of an issue for me. Just gimmy the gameplay and ill be happy. Sure D1 and D2 were good, but color is helpful... Although I do kind of wish for less green outdoors... It seems so... Peaceful, and there are bunnies... Other then that... Yer.

Kind of poor comparisons to be honest. The whole "There aren't many monsters here" bit made me roll my eyes.

    Lets see...

Early Diablo 1 - Not many monsters. Dark.

Early Diablo 2 - Not many monsters. Dark underground. Not very bright outside.

Early Diablo 3 - FLAMING AXE AND AWESOME ARMOR AND HUGE BOSSES OMFG!

    Anyone else catch this?

Yeah I could tell they were going to pull that maneuver off once i saw the level 2 barb.
To think I got excited about this trailer...

Shut up about stealing stuff from other games.

If it enhances the gameplay experience in any way who the hell cares.

Getting annoyed with all the trivial arguments on here over the last couple of days.

Agreed. I am totally sick of all this bullshit, about how Diablo 3 takes idea from other games. If it works, then take it. It is as simple as that. They took the seperate loot drops for each player from Mythos, but Im not sad about that at all. Plz find more ideas that would work with Diablo 3!
