Not at all trying to fuel the flame, but the off-top discussion (what was actually legible) was actually interesting. While I don't agree with doppel, I can see how he would come to the conclusions that he did. Because I am a larger Warcraft fan than any other blizzard franchise I did follow the creation of all these games very closely (nothing that close untill the announce of Warhammer online).
Warcraft3 was always intended to be an RTS with the new idea of using an RPG hero setting, and --Important statement-- WoW was always its own seperate game that was under creation at the same time (though it is the same franchise and may be confused as a cool spinoff of an 'oops' idea, it is much like how starcraft or diablo was under development at the same time as the Warcraft RTS's, Fingolfin made a good point how Blizzard doesn't just 'accidently' create new games.)
WoW was never an accident or a spinoff of Blizzard going too crazy with the RPG aspects of an RTS. Because they were under creation at the same time, they did not want to overshadow either so they drew back the RPG aspects of Warcraft 3 so WoW could have the full attention of people interested in that sort of gameplay. They have similar graphics because they wanted to tie the two together as an 'oh cool' factor so people could look at one thing in either game and say "Oh cool, that looks like the other game".
It was mentioned earlier in the thread that WoW is not part of the RTS franchise, I believe the word that the person who made that assumption is looking for is "Genre". Franchise denotes the universe in which the characters of all associated games are in, whereas Genre denotes the style of the game such as RTS/MMO/FPS/Sports (God forbid they murder Warcraft like Capcom did Mega-man and make a Warcraft Soccer.)
---------
Now, going back on topic I would hope Diablo 3 is not an MMO. If anything, I would believe it is not Blizzard North's wish (which by the way most employees split off because they were dissatisfied with Blizzard farming WoW for a good year and a half instead of continuing game creation and started their own seperate production of a diablo-style game named Mythos). If you recall they canned production of 'Starcraft Ghost' because they wanted all of their production and attention on coming up with ideas/story lines/patches/and pumping out an expansion instead of continuing with a seperate game. If they do create a Diablo MMO it is Vivendi pulling the strings of Blizzard forcing the creation of another money farm (Vivendi owns rights to Blizzard and other gaming companys). I would really hope they create another 2-d world and 3-d PC/NPC characters just continuing the current story line or exploring the story line of the Sin Wars.
Edit: Added the info about Starcraft Ghost

muttonchops posted a message on Diablo3 is now under developingPosted in: Diablo III General DiscussionIt doesnt cover anything, believe what you must believe, whatever, your just to stubborn to see my points, arguments and facts.
Facts? You just pulled a titling formula out of your ass and confused genre for franchise. You're ignorant as hell.
No i'm treating them like franchises, your treating them like a story or a name or a setting.
Oh my god. You're so horrible at this. You're saying that WoW can't be part of the Warcraft franchise because it's an MMORPG and not an RTS. Thus, you're classifying them by genre. Therefore, you couldn't possibly be talking in terms of franchises.
No they dont you dumbass, you think they wouldv named WoW Warcraft 3 if they wanted too? (your still not getting WoW WAS Warcraft 3)
Obviously not, as there is a Warcraft 3, and it is the RTS, as opposed to World of Warcraft. I don't give a shit if WC3 was originally slated to be an MMORPG. That's not what I'm talking about.
Thats not the point, stop being dumb.
Ladies first. *that's you doppel*
WTF are you talking about? THATS NOT THE POINT, dumbass.
(but it is as of today the standard of Blizzards MMORPG's, or do you want to debate that? lol)
If you weren't the dumbass, you would have noticed that I wasn't saying that in reference to anything you said in particular. I was addressing something that was urking me. Way to go, dumbass.
You think your some kind of filosophical genius? LOL, give me a brake, or better yet give yourself a brake because your filosophical thinking SUCKS.
For the record, not only did you spell philosophical wrong, but you used the wrong word for "break". "Brake" is what is in your car.
Anyways, it's not a philosophy you dumbass. It's common sense. Why would they make a sequel to a game they can release expansions and patches for to update and improve the game? Not only that, but considering that the game is continuous, there is no ultimate goal to be achieved, thus there is no ending.
I never said both games cant tie in with eachother, fact remains Warcraft is Warcraft, WoW is WoW.
If WoW isn't Warcraft. It wouldn't be in the title.
So if I'm not addressing any of your points, then you should take care to clarify your points. Although I doubt you'd get anywhere with that, as it wouldn't make any sense, anyways.
Warcraft is in the name, World of Warcraft, therefore, it has the brand name, thus making it part of the series of products. Therefore, it's part of the franchise.Quote from name="dictionary "franchise"" »A brand name under which a series of products is released.
(For the record, Doppel threw the first punch. Just saying that in case someone tries to point the finger at me.) -

DarkSun posted a message on Would you like Diablo 3 to be in 3D like the recent Warcraft games?Well if we look at Warcraft I, II, and III, they all display the same kind of "kiddy" graphics. If you look at Diablo and Diablo II LoD, it displays more realistic in-depth graphics.Posted in: General Discussion (non-Diablo)
This leads me to beleive that if they did create Diablo 3 in 3D it would be a more realistic looking game. Almost like Guild Wars, only not as laid back on the "Blood and Guts". - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

you fail miserably understanding my logic because you're blindly supporting yours.
What i'm saying is that:
1) whoever is whining about it has no reason to, because he has internet. The people that want to play LAN because they cant afford/get access to a connection cant say a thing.
After making that clear, we should start questioning the reason they keep asking for LAN.
It was the only way to pirate the game yet still be able to play multiplayer. If you care about Singleplayer only you dont need LAN anyway.
2) When you play LAN one of the computers connected acts as a server. That alone gives enough information to experienced hackers about the data flow of the game to the official servers, making the way easier to hacking them.
Weird how no private server in WoW works right, eh? And its 4 years old already.
That last comment about my logic and how Blizzard shouldnt make games like Diablo is completely crap and without sense at all. From my comment you understood that? You're either stupid or too drunk to understand what i'm saying.
I was always for a free multiplayer part, but i dont want the exact same thing as i had in Diablo 2. I want more. That doesnt mean i want to pay monthly for it, I just want at least the security i had (and still have) in WoW. And the possibility to save myself from spammers or any kind of idiots who spoil the game (through bots, hacks and anything else that isnt supposed to be in the game behavior wise).
that you understood from talking to a few kids in a forum and from your limitless marketing experience, no doubt.
Its very obvious there isnt anything that points in that direction.
You know how battle.net was kept alive that long? Because it had people on it. And mostly because of Starcraft and Warcraft 3 (regular too but mostly DotA). The more people on the servers the more income they can have from advertising (the little banner on top, yeah), thus keeping the service free without having problems with the server maintenance.
Now, if LAN helps people abuse any security holes on the system and hack/cheat on closed realms, that would definitely shoo people from playing. Remember how during the time of serious duping the game was unplayable?
Probably not, as i remember you didnt play or like Diablo 2.
anyway, the thing is that the ones that would pirate the game, will do it again anyway. Keeping LAN off will make it impossible for them to play the game with others but it will also help keep the secutiry of the closed realms intact.

i have never seen New York either, so unless i see it with my own eyes i dont need to believe that city exists.
kinda silly thing to say i know, but you get my point.
theres reason enough to make us believe of the "aliens" existance. Dont immediately think of little green men that travel through space and abduct us just to perform tests on us. Think of life in another planet, just like there is on our planet. Are there evidence for anyone to believe there's life on Earth? Not really, unless you live here

that statement has no point at all.
none of us (that apparently agree with the current looks) have said that we dont care or that it doesnt look like Diablo.
It looks like Diablo, it feels like Diablo. Hell, it's even called Diablo!
isnt it Diablo? IT IS! ITS CALLED EVOLUTION! Things change. Like it or not, it doesnt matter. What matters is that from what we get to see we're getting a great sequel to Diablo II.
If you dont like it make a mod of Diablo 2 and play there. Really, i'm tired of all the whining and complaining for nothing.
and yes, we would care if it changed to what those completely crap "how it is and how it should be" pictures. Having a boring game that makes it hard on your eyes isnt the thing i wish to have for Diablo 3.

thats the same everywhere i'm afraid. u have to search to find people that are willing to listen or "lead" the conversation in a way where they have to listen too. What i usually do is letting them talk first. It doesnt really matter who talks first in a debate. Its more important who talks last
