    http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/witch-doctor#cSgUTb!dXW!aZZaab

This build has constant mana regen, huge AoE and single target damage, massive health regen, and above all exploding dogs. Who could ask for more?

The build would basically use haunt and locust swarm to clear waves of weaker enemies. Most people seem to think that Haunt with that rune on it does 320% weapon damage in 1.9 seconds... but no, it actually does 320% weapon damage per second for 1.9 seconds. Which makes it quite a bit of damage output. Spam three of those and a locust swarm, you have a dead wave of dead things.

Soul Harvest provides me with increased damage and healing, and spirit walk provides me with a survive tactic and more healing. When I need a heal, I hit one of those. I can use them every 15 seconds.

Also both (assuming they actually do cost mana and it is an error in the tooltip and not an error in my passive) give me mana from the passive Rush of Essence. Haunt also gives me mana back. So really the only mana spender is Locust Swarm.

Next we have Zombie Dogs and Sacrifice. When I use sacrifice which, with 4 dogs will deal massive damage. 200% per dog. On a single target that will deal 800% weapon damage. But then I have a good chance that more dogs will spawn, and also the lost doggies will drop health globes which I can consume for even more healing.

I have considered switching Pierce the Veil to Gruesome Fest because the dogs will be dropping health globes. I haven't decided yet which is better, being that mana is no problem for me and the 20% damage buff would be constant, unlike the 10% stacking lasts 10 seconds buff.

So we all know about how runes work. You find a rune put it into the slot, and based on color and rank it determines new strengths and interesting changes to the skill.

I think there is a way to make this work while allowing it to also be used as a system for leveling up skills. Leveling runes. Let me explain.

So let's say at the start of the game you have two skills, both skills have a pre-built in leveling rune, and you have 4 extra. This rune would level up from the skill's use, not from points. When you want to add a color to it, simply add a rune on top of it, one of these "gray" runes, or the colored system. And thus it adds more to the rune. It only lays on top of it, so when you move the colored rune off of it, it goes back to just being a leveling rune.

Anytime you want to, you can color the leveling rune with another rune. And anytime you want to you can move an already leveled up rune into another slot. It would be like respecing, only not. You wouldn't lose the level you gained from using that skill and could easily transfer it to another skill. You can choose to max level a single leveling rune, or level a variety of them to have a balanced build. This would add some desperately needed customization to the system currently in place.

From the standpoint of Blizzard, no they aren't going to do this, it would be very complex to implement. But mostly this is just an idea to show people that there are more ways to do this than just skill points, or lack thereof.

Further, keep in mind... that real players will be selling their items. It won't just be a bunch of bots farming items

What's your evidence for this? Because there's 11 years of evidence to the contrary...

Because, Battle.net 2.0 doesn't work the same way as battle 1.0 does. Bots e.g and other things are basically much harder and actually almost impossible to implement and even install.

Technically speaking, The system is locked from blizzards side, so you would need severe hacking skills to do something like that, which MOST don't have. It's alot ALOT harder to use and abuse bots in a system architechture like battle.net 2.0

The infrastructure of battle 2.0 is alot better this time around..

You won't see duping scandals or mass bots everywhere... like we saw on battle.net 1.0..

Blizzard is aware of all of this..

    Have faith.

This is also a good point. Actually a much better point than I made.

Also, aw, I got merged. =( Lol.

Not that there won't be farming bots... but it will be easy for real players to sell their items. We outnumber bots. And everyone is going to start off at square one.

Although hell, they might find a way to stop farming bots. Who knows.

I know a lot of people are mad. But here are a few things to consider before you judge Diablo 3 too harshly.

    1) The AH real money is in response to people getting virus' and having their games hacked by 3rd party item sellers. Also, it will reduce the number of spam bots roving around games annoying the hell out of everyone. Further, keep in mind... that real players will be selling their items. It won't just be a bunch of bots farming items, it will be the hardcore fans who are earning more than people who just buy items, and as long as you are willing to play the game, you can get something out of it besides an awesome game experience (hopefully.)

    2) Yes, it sucks that you can't customize your skill points... but when I heard this along with the less slots for skills... I instantly thought of Guild Wars. For anyone who played Guild Wars, you know it was purely a skill based game, both in terms of spells and abilities and the players own skill and ability to play the game correctly. The gear, stats, skills, and almost everything was completely the same for everyone in the game. All the top level items were pretty much exactly the same. It was only what top level type of item you wanted that mattered. And generally, they were easy to get.

But that didn't mean that the game had characters everywhere exactly the same, far from it. In every PvP match up, you saw different combos built out of the lack of skill slots. People who instead of just randomly picking spells to go in with, actually thought out a well working combo to enter the battle with. And there were hundreds, and hundreds of different ones. There were the big ones, touch rangers, fastcast mesmers, IWAY, Trap rangers, such and such. But there was also tons of combos from the little guys.

So keep in mind, you have three passives to pick from... you also have 6 slots for 20 skills (honestly I'd prefer more skills to pick from. To have a chance for more combos.) So each time you go out into battle, you aren't going to see someone using the exact build as you.

    3) The main reason Diablo 3 probably won't suck... it's Blizzard. And we all know... Blizzard is awesome. And if we truly don't like some of these game mechanics when it comes out, they are sure to improve it over time.

Uhh I didn't see another topic on this here, which I thought was strange. Anyway, if you go to the Diablo 3 site they have a nice little celebration page with the characters of Diablo 2 drinking beer with the new characters of Diablo 3 (although the opposite of how they introduced them IE male wizard, female witch doctor etc.)

If I am indeed the first person to mention this, which I doubt, woohoo. If not, could someone direct me to the main topic? I would like to read what other people have to say. =)

(I did try to find it.)

OK so I had an idea today for the game. This is for PK's everywhere. Instead of a "Hostile" button, there is a way to join as a member of Diablo's hordes. You wouldn't get attacked by monsters as you make your way through, but rather you get attacked by NPC's or players. You get minor bits of XP for every player killed, however they get as much as if you were a extremely powerful monster. You don't get to see who is playing, or where they are. So it could be dangerous to stay in a game for too long, because someone else might join to kill you and you wouldn't even know.

What do you think? Could it work? I just want to keep PK and PvP. =P

PLEASE GOD! NO HUNTER WITH A BOW AND A PET!

    BAH!

Could that be any more cliche'? We aren't trying to make World Of Diablo here. And the Monk is already a mix of Assassin.

I like the idea of skills with Bows that do more damage at closer range. Like a magic arrow that, as it flies further, loses some of its magical energy. And thus makes close range combat a possibility with an archer type of character.

I remember the devs talking about how they wanted to make every character in Diablo 3 feel unique to Diablo 3. This being said, one may point to the similarities the Witchdoctor (necro/druid), Wizard (sorc), Barbarian (...barb), Monk (asn, paladin) have with previous classes. In all fairness, I have to acknowledge the similarities.

However, that being said, the chances of the next class being a javelin-tossing, spear-wielding, guided arrow shootin' class with a new name slapped on (rogue) seems sort of like a rash assumption.

Ok, let me hurry up to my point. The beauty of the Barbarian is his ability to use essentially all melee weapons ranging from a short-range axe to a long-range lance. Sprinkle in the more varied and useable skills that are being introduced in Diablo 3 and you have an all-around fighter with room for player creativity. The hideousness of a proposed comeback of an Amazon-clone is its limitations. Three basic weapon choices were forced upon the player. Bow/Xbow (same thing, eh?), Javelin, and Spear (which shared many skills with eachother). It fits the lore and theme of the Amazon which I can only assume would mean it wouldn't change drastically if they brought back that specific class. Also, lore-wise, wouldn't it be a little iffy for there to be a male rogue?

What is the missing archetype in Diablo 3 and what could fill it in?
This "jack of all trades" theory people are talking about is sounding more and more plausible. The ability to specialize in all ranged physical weapons (which someone else has already brought up) seems like both an obvious and original concept. My personal prediction is a desert-themed raider. Someone who could use spears and pole-arms as well as throwing axes and bows.

I believe it will be a part magic, part archer, type class. Either an extremely dark character like the necromancer was, or a shape shifting character of some kind... or maybe both. Maybe a demon master who can transform into demons of some kind? I hope that Blizzard makes the next character unique more than anything. The Witch Doctor seems to be the only, however slight, unique character. I would really like them to experiment with this last class... but if it will be ranged or not is really the question of this thread. And I must say, yes, unless they unveil two more character classes. (In which case only one will be ranged)

Okay, I've read a lot of threads saying that the last class will be some sort of Rogue // Amazon type thing.

The whole point of this thread is to discuss how it won't be (or for you to prove me wrong). I will be using logic and citations to prove my case. Please be mature and discuss rationally.

We've seen several archetypes thus far in what Blizzard has released:
~Barbarian - Sword and Shield type pure Melee warrior
~Witch Doctor - Enemy Manipulation, Damage over Time, and minion creator
    ~Wizard - Pure caster
    ~Monk - Speed Powerhouse

    And Damage Archetypes being;
    ~Pure Strong Melee (Barbarian)
    ~Disease and Fire (Witch Doctor)
    ~Lightning, Arcane, Cold (Wizard)
~Holy and Fast, Weaker Melee (Monk)

Now, if you've seen any of the gameplay footage, we all know that each class can hold its own in both short and long range battles. Even the Barbarian uses Ground Slam and Leap Attack, and the Wizard uses something similar to Arcane Explosion.
    Barbarian Gameplay Video
    Witch Doctor Gameplay Video
    Wizard Gameplay Video
    Monk Gameplay Video

Being that each class is capable of decimating its opponent at all ranges, we can safely assume that the last class will be able to do that very same thing. Based on this strand of logic, the last class cannot be a pure ranged class.

Now, someone had pointed out to me earlier that a short bow was shown as a dropped item in the Barbarian gameplay trailer at around 3:55. That is an excellent counterpoint, but the only issue is that the game has evolved quite a bit since then. To illustrate my point, I challenge you to find a Staff, some type of Claw-type weapon, or a wizard's orb in any of the previous videos, before the class was announced. I watched each video closely and didn't find it at all. Why? The game has changed tremendously.

So, now that I've finally laid my claim, I challenge you all to an honest debate as to why I'm wrong.

Well this argument only works if you considered the Rogue or Amazon to be a only-ranged class. But this is just not true, the Rouge could use all the swords, axes, and magic she wanted to, even though she was built more around bows. Even more pronounced was the amazon's use of the spear. Thus we have a class that can use both long and short ranged weapons.

I think the next class will be similar. A character class that can choose to use bows or melee close up damage.

And you seem to also underestimate bows. The Amazon kicked more than just a little ass in Diablo 3. And the skills around the bows might not be purely shooting a single arrow at a single target and killing it with an arrow. I believe Blizzard has been fairly creative so far on bow use, it would be interesting to see a skill like an exploding arrow that grows more powerful as the target gets in closer range.

Based on logic, all the other classes are used. Magic has been used twice, melee has been used twice. How can ranged not get one character class? Wither or not that character class can do other things such as melee, that will be seen later. But undoubtedly the next class will be able to use bows effectively.

Also the sight of the bow I should think would prove that they are at least THINKING about a bow class, otherwise why would they make bows at all in the game? Would anyone use them?

Oh and, source is an IGN interview.

IGN: Have you confirmed how many unrevealed classes there are, to round out the entire party?

    Jay Wilson: There's one more.

IGN: You did mention that it's being revealed next year, and that it's someone from the previous games…

Jay Wilson: I did say that. I probably shouldn't have said that, because we're not sure that's going to be the case. It's just logical, that's what we tend to do. But it may or may not. I'm not gonna answer it, anyway… [laughs]

I can see the Druid, the Necromancer and possibly the Paladin being (re)introduced as playable classes once more in an expansion. None of them however, will end up being the fifth class in Diablo III though.

Jay Wilson has stated that the next class will be another from the old games. Druid and Amazon are really the only choices among the seven. The Monk is basically the Assassin with the Paladin's style. The Barbarian is in there. The Necromancer is too like Witch Doctor the for it to be the fifth class. The Wizard is basically the Sorceress. Which leave the Amazon and Druid. Out of those I think the Druid had more to do with the story, being basically the brother class to the Barbarians.

I would be surprised if it was a class from the first game. (And it would HAVE to be the rogue because... they have to have a ranged class... it wouldn't be Diablo without one.)

I would love it if they revamped the druid, when I first got the expansion I made a druid and tried to play it... but ended up really not enjoying it at all. But I loved the style and idea of the druid. I hope they try again.
