posted a message on Typical Latency of US users
Ok, I hope my post can hold some considerable weight in this discussion. I'm in south africa I have played beta, all classes to 13 and still do so in my free time. I play on uncapped ADSL with graphics on low (for some reason the physics in the game, Like the templar destroying the barrier to get to jondar, slow my pc up during those frames- even tho its decent enough to play skyrim!).
Let me tell you, that 80% of the time I'm playing at about 450ms. Which sounds really bad (when thinking of a game such as COD). This is 98% unnoticable in D3. Spells/attacks indicate no stutter and they work instantly delivering results instantly. Monsters react instantly when seeing you. The only thing I have noticed is that loots/gold 'think' before dropping. So there's your server query... Also a slight pause when entering dungeons/waypoint. But very small pauses. That's all in singleplayer. Multiplayer, I can confirm was near exactly the same experience. So, being in south africa, playing beta on a test server in the US is 80% of the time a 98% awesome experience. I hope I provided some relief (as it relieved my fears when I started playing)? And I'm definitely buying this game.

I don't want to take my laptop out my car, connect the 3G, and watch this cinematic immediately- after reading all these comments on my phone.

You know, trolling and bad feelings aside, I for one am no longer looking forward *as much* after a 5 hour beta experience.

Blizzard are really crap at either making games or hiring people. Because more than one person who has played beta with me has remarked that they cannot believe it took four years to make.

I defended by saying its just a beta... We'll see.
And no release date? I'm starting to view blizzard as that bully/jock at school.

I doubt it's for Xbox tho, i'd much rather think Sony PS3, As theyre advertising that position over at Blizzard.com Plus, Sony has an arseload of servers all over the world.

    YO!

    Havent been here in awhile.

Anyway, i think this blizzcon we'll definitely get wind of a Beta release date. If anything. No solid release news.

Also, If we see a D3 Cinematic at this Blizzcon then my theory is correct...

    Hey Dudes,

I dunno, if the lan works like MW2 where you have to be online to play (btw there are no ping issues because no packets are constantly moving back and forth) it wouldn't be so bad. The thing is, and still using MW2 for example, - the reason activision told INFINITY WARD to do it this way was to curb piracy... Thus inventing what Blizz now calls PSEUDO LAN.

So basically ACTIVISION told there Bro's at BLIZZ:
"Shit bro's! MW2 has made a fat-load of cash becuz it's incredibly hard to pirate! Because you have to be logged on to STEAM to play MP - ANY MP! You know what bro's? You should do as we do!"

It makes sense that Blizz watches ACTIVISION's products - they're one company!

You guys wanna know what tho? I think a D3 based on OP's opinion will not be such a bad thing...

Because we are mere mortals I can understand if our ideas sound a bit sh*tty - But the concept behind the idea is what I'm going for here, AKSE, your idea sounds cool, but they'd have to 'up the epic' on your idea of MAPvid-Action-Mapvid-action.

But i understand your concept - and it rocks.

    RECAPS

so, let me get this straight:
when done with an act, instead of teleporting to the next act, it is treated as a quest. You fight off monsters and such with an npc to get there. its fun, not too long, keeps player in the story, gives open world feeling a little.

when to that act, there is a wp which allows you to skip that run by teleporting to dif acts like in d2.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

this looks really good. Id like to be able to go back through that passage at my own leisure also, however.
I really like this idea. hope it gets impelemented. doesnt sound too complicated either. It would be more of adding to the detail and raising the bar which bliz does best. we shall see.

for the other ideas.... go play pokemon if you want a little dashed line telling you where you are... this is a revolutionary game in 2011 using physics and such... a dotted line... comon. Why dont you just knock me out and just pull me out of the game completely. id rather go back to a monolouge, teleport, watch a vid then pop up. It would just be a major lul in time of doin nothing but watch where you will be going. in all reality, you know where you are going any ways and all that really matters is that you end up somehwere. -- rant sry. grmpy. long week :\

HA HA!!! Can someone ask BASHIOK about this concept. Maybe blizz likes?

So every time you move from one act to another you are forced to go through this?

I would hate that... It is just a useless time consumer that slows the pace of the game down when you just want to switch act.

I get where you are coming from! It would be annoying doing this between every act,

But think about it this way:
This will only happen as you progress through the game...
When you finish the scene, you are coming into town (so basically - you don't start every act 'safely' in town as before, you have to fight your way there whilst on caravan (or some other, interesting concept)- but once you've done it, it's done... the next time you go, for eg. back to act 1 and then back to act 2 you will spawn safely in town...)

I already don't like to see the same type of enfiorment, imagine see it in the same order lol.
ActII as desert is a fail from blizz in my opnion.

But i agree we will se alot of new and different enviorments. In the art works there are some dungeons who looks pretty nice. What i'm trying to say is that if we visit really new and nice indoor areas the bad effect of boring outdoors can be minimimalized.

    True dat.

Also, remember that D3 has FOUR acts as standard.
